If this is true, Apple has sold 2/3rds of the number of Hololens headsets ever sold even before it launches.
That sentence literally doesnt make sense
The power of co-opting other people's innovations at just the right time. And the power of a captive audience willing to hang onto a brand's every word. Astonishing.
What innovations are they coopting?

Quick question: How are you going to be a scalper when the wait time is only 6 weeks? It's not like it's 6 months FFS

Every year, the latest iPhone Pro Max gets picked up by scalpers making $200-$300 a pop.

6 weeks is an eternity for those with the money and desire for Apple products.

When iPhone 4 was launched, it wasn't available in China. Scalpers easily got 100-150% margins on each unit.

This is going to blow your mind but this is a failure.

Meta sold 20 Million and it’s still not a success

Looking forward to see what developers do with this thing. Clearly Apple didn’t know either.
200,000 $3K headsets at launch?

I'd call that pretty good going tbh

For better or worse (and for society as a whole it's definitely going to be worse) this is only the start.

mostly to eBay scalpers
Based on the number of bids (lack of thereof), I don't think scalpers are having much success. It doesn't help that Apple charges $199 for custom fit Light Seal and in-store pickup is still availability within few days to a week from the launch date in most location.

Crazy. That's understandable for a ~$1000 device. Not so sure it'll work for a $3500 device.

Not really crazy. Places like Russia and Middle East, don't even get the latest iPhone now, much less Vision Pro. There's a lot of rich people around the world.

Ah, thanks. Forgot about that.

I think there is a risk of a high return rate ….due to
a) cost, if I was unsure or in any way unhappy then 3500+ is a tempting refund.
b) lack of detailed prior product review information leading to unfulfilled expectation.

More than likely, I would have ordered one but for the fact Zeiss doesn’t make my prescription. I’m waiting to see if HonsVR or VROptician decides to make lenses. My guess is they or someone else will. Anyway, I have really high astigmatism and Zeiss says they don’t make my Rx as of yet.

I’m not buying one because I think it’s meh i’m just waiting for the usual Youtubers telling us how pretty it is and and whatever else they think about it.

Some quick math...

200,000 units at $3,500 a pop... is $700 million in gross sales revenue.

Sounds like a lot, but that's like two days of iPhone sales.

Apple sells over 200 million iPhones per year, or about 500k per day. At an ASP of $700, that's $350 million per day.
