Not nervous about them finding something wrong with me on the assumption that whatever that thing might be, it would have been there regardless of participation in the survey, and it's better to know than not.

2 days and 8 contributions - yehaw.

And just a note to others... I never got a notification. I had to open the app for it to tell me I was ready to go. So keep an eye on the app.

I downloaded the app the day it was released and have been waiting to be accepted into the study. I got the notification yesterday, so it can take awhile.

Am I supposed to wear the watch overnight? Also I have a friend who smokes. Wondering if that will throw it off?

I signed up the day the app was released and I have not been accepted yet. I am 32, and have high blood pressure caused by kidney disease/damage. Do not know if any of that will disqualify me, or qualify me?

I saw some other people posting where they live, so for the record, I live in New York.

:apple:

You will have more readings if you are more active. You don’t need to wear your watch overnight.

And no, it’s highly unlikely that second hand smoke will cause an erroneous reading. Unless you are in a locked room with that person 24 hours a day. In which case, you should have indicated that you are a smoker on the initial application.

Interesting. Does that happen after you get the notification? All is received was a question about Atrial issues and the like. Weird!

This heart study feels a bit like SETI@home back in the what, early 2000s? I always thought I would be the one to make First Contact.

Look at me now, sitting here in my parents basement, unshowered, surrounded by empty Big Gulp cups and Little Debbie wrappers. At least I have one more shot to save the world with the copious amounts of abnormal heart data I am transmitting. Don’t cry for me, MacRumors.

As one of those who, in his parent's basement, started up Seti@home and watched/listened to my CPU fan go 100% many many years ago (2003???)..... I RESEMBLE THIS REMARK greatly. I eventually settled for WCG (World Community Grid https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/discover.action). Yeah, my app is saying I'm transmitting tons of heart data too. 5 days in study, 28 data contributions.

At least with this, my room isn't being overheated by my CPU and GPU at 100% all the time - I'm also paying for my own electricity now so I can't afford to do stuff like that anymore. <cough>.

I'm still waiting. A few days ago, the app told me I had no watches paired even though I have three paired. I had to delete the app and install and apply for the study all over again.

I’m 28. Been in the study for 5 days now. 27 contributions sent. I don’t wear my watch at night but do go to the gym daily. I usually see about 3-4 contributions ~an hour after the gym, when I remember to check.

I guess I'm a slug. :) I wear my watch all the time except when sleeping or in the shower.

Have there been any reports of anyone in the study alerted to a problem and utilizing the Doctor video chat? Just wondering if the study is "finding" anything yet?

Are there any benefits from being in the program?
Not particularly. It’s a large scale research project. The benefit is the good feeling you will receive in contributing data.

If on the rare chance that the study detects an anomaly, you’ll have the option of a video consult with a doc. You’d still need to follow up locally with a specialist.

From Standford Medical in response to questions regarding acceptance waiting period:

Notifications for participation will be sent on a rolling basis in order to accommodate the large volume of participants anticipated across the U.S. The waiting period may vary for participants. You will receive a notification on your iPhone and Apple Watch when the study is ready for you to participate. Please do not delete the app or turn off notifications during this waiting period. This notification will direct you to return to the Apple Heart Study app. Upon launching the app, you can expect to see a "Welcome Back" message, be instructed to enter your current state of residence, be presented with the informed consent and authorization, and answer some brief questionnaires in order to complete enrollment in the study.

I have been in the study for 31 days and have contributed 200 times to the data. I have a heart condition, so I guess mine are interesting....
