Apple has been doing this for years. It's not new to Tim Cook or even the Apple Watch.
They never invited me!![]()
Fast forward a year or so and you'll see the few early adopter Apple watches languishing in dresser drawers.
the only life changing product EVER from Apple is the iPhone. (some can argue ipod, but I never liked it's lack of file compatibility or the required usage of iTune)
considering there are many more (and arguably better) smart phone already in the market, people will buy Apple watch purely on Apple brand and its potential. And some will be disappointed with its short coming. (i.e. battery life and lack of sensors)
it's life changing.. how? Because it's a blown-up version of iPod touch?
I remember being very excited about the iPad, but I was hoping for a touch version of OSX instead of a bigger version of IOS
It would be nice for iPhone 4s owners to get that iOS "trifecta" because unstable iOS 8 is not what you want to be left with. Since iOS 9 is mostly about stability and cleaning up iOS 8, I think the A5 should be able to handle it.
Tim Cook didn't say the watch would launch "in April", he said it was on target to launch "by April". That could turn out to be a significant difference. April 30 is the latest we'll see it in the shops, but it could be earlier, say March sometime if the 3rd party apps are up to snuff by now, or before the end of this month anyway.
I can confidently predict that the Apple Watch won't launch on April 1st however!
It's the power of the Apple logo and the empty promises about how life changing it will be.
See you in line....while I'm sitting at home laughing.

It would have been even nicer if iOS 7 and 8 weren't so buggy on release. Why is 9 suddenly going to end this pattern?
I think Apple felt that it was more important to have a nice, modern-looking UI and a feature set that more or less includes all major Android features. Once they had those things, they seem to be going back to stability for the next release. Based on sales, they probably made the right choice, even though I personally prefer stability and consistency.

The Apple Watch has FAR longer legs than FitBit or other short-lived wearables. It's a customizable fashionpiece, it's your ever-present portal to your digital life, it's a remote control for your music and Apple TV, blah blah blah.
In a year, we'll be wondering why the doubters didn't learn their lessons from the iMac (no floppy!), iPod (needs a Mac!), iPhone (no keyboard!), and iPad (giant iPod Touch!).
?Yeah, right. We both know the Apple watch is Tim's dream in order to emerge from under Steve's shadow.

Yah. Impressive! Amidst that, youve got a string of bloopers. iPod shuffle 3rd gen. Macintosh TV, Apple bandai Pippin, Macintosh Performa, Hockey puck mouse, Mighty mouse, 20th Anniversary Mac, Apple III, Apple G4 Cube. Need I go on?

1) You're mixing in products from other time periods. The stinkers of the modern era (post 1997) are G4 Cube, iPod Hi-Fi, and Ping. 1 Mac, 1 IPod accessory, 1 social media/music service. The mice are totally debatable.
2) The Apple Watch is a new category and has none of the stink of a potential non-commitment from Apple or quirky design side project.
IMO, it truly does resemble the iPad of 2010: Who needs it? ___ already does those things faster. What a boring keynote. Nobody's asking for it. People have tried this already.
There is nothing intrinsic about the Apple Watch that will doom it to failure - only that its detractors typically have a lack of imagination, don't understand the experiential value it has, or are still stuck in some form of speeds-and-feeds mindset.
How's 2010 treating you these days?
You might want to get a move on, as 2015 is serving the rest of us pretty well - what with the iPad 6 (aka iPad Air 2) rocking the tablet world, and most everyone gotten way past the "so it's a big iTouch" thing years ago.

.
haha, please define "rocketing the tablet world"... the fact tablet sales are tanking is a very good indication that people are starting to realize its true limitation.
Much like they discovered and then abandoned netbook
For starters, Apple CREATED the tablet market.
From there, Apple has sold a quarter-billion iPads. That's enough for 1 out of every 28 people on the planet.
Sales aren't exactly "tanking". Stabilizing, yes - that's quite different. Explosive growth is not unlimited.
The netbook market vanished as soon as tablets (to wit: iPad) appeared. People were buying netbooks for a reason tablets satisfied much better.
Enjoy your delusions. iPads are making me money.
