I'd love one, but something is telling me NEXT YEAR will be the year more dramatic changes are going to be seen.
Perhaps many of the things that were rumored for this year, but never made it in time?
This simply could be an "s" year for Apple.

All the nay sayers about nothing new coming out of Apple. What exactly do you expect from Apple these days? Give me an honest answer.

I would say processor upgrade, better battery technology, and better cameras are pretty solid. With that being said, I do not think they expect people to upgrade every year but maybe every few years. I had a 6s Plus which was badly in need of replacing. I was hoping the XS Max would have these camera specs which they didn't so I will be buying the new phone this year because I like the upgraded camera specs and I do a lot of video/photography.

Everything going forward will more be of an evolution, rather than a revolution.

Akin to those "It's the best iPhone we've ever made" comments in keynotes. Well, it had better be!

There is no “just right” phone for me in this lineup. 11 is too big and Pro is too expensive (and also a little big). I think It’s disappointing that Apple continues to think size should only be a choice on the most expensive models. I guess I’ll keep my 7 another year (still runs great and got a new battery 10 months ago) and see what next year brings.

Some of the 11 versus X comparisons kinda validate my habit of not jumping on new designs immediately and wait for a more matured release.

Quotes like this are completely useless... Why in the world would a company like apple make such a dramatic camera change and it not be at least one of the best at the time of release? How about focus on a benefit that's actually tangible and relatable? C'mon, The Verge!

? Best camera. Did you read the Verge, or just complain about the quote? This author (unlike others at the Verge) went in to quite a bit of detail about why he claimed it as the best camera, including with side by side comparisons. He even pointed out the conditions when the camera was bested by the Pixel or the Note 10. Particularly well done explanation about the AI processes and some of the deficiencies in the current release of iOS 13 and what is expected to change in a further update.

I can understand you may have a different opinion, so we all await your more thorough analysis and review

I’m sick of hearing about “iterative” updates. They are not iterative for the target upgraders. An iPhone 6 or 7 iPhone to either the 11 or the Pro would be a large jump.

I don’t think Apple expects users with an XS to upgrade to the Pro.
Are you saying that this was not an iterative upgrade? Or you are saying that it was but this makes you sick. It sounds like the latter but I was not sure.

It's a shame that reviewers are calling a 64GB iPhone for $699 a good value. It's a terrible value! It costs Apple literally $10 more to get the 256GB chip instead of the 64GB one , and they charge a $350 premium for it. They are ripping their customers faces off with the higher storage markups.

Kudos to Apple on finally realizing this in the Mac department, and making Macbook and iMac SSD upgrades more reasonable.

Wrong, it’s the industry we are talking about. There will be no major innovations coming out of any smartphone manufacturers short of foldable phones. You just need to learn to accept it.

Foldable phones may be innovative or may be a fad. It's easy to complain about no innovation, but what are your ideas, clearly you must have ideas that are better than the industry.

If you actually look at what has been done, it is pretty impressive. the Qualcomm/Apple race for Soc sets have given us impressive performance and a big increase in AI that rival CISC, there is GPU performance including Metal, low power performance, improved security to fight the improved hackers, wifi6, the 5G rollout is beginning, adoption of OLED and high end LED screens, improved sound, Bluetooth that actually stays connected and improved range, ....

Just sayin!

For me, it would be the perfect iPhone if it had Touch ID and no notch. Coming from a 6s I want to option to use Touch ID instead of Face ID why can’t we have both options? I’d also rather not have the notch.

I think I’m sick of people expecting the new phones to do revolutionary things every single year.

Apple still innovates more than anyone else...hate on.

I hear your point, but your posted inaccuracies destroy your credibility. 256 GB iPhone 11 for $849 - 64 GB iPhone 11 for $699. = $150. (note, that is not anywhere near the $350 you state)

Sorry, but all reviews are the same and we still do not know RAM size.

And other than two guys comparing the size of their RAM, it doesn't matter in the least. all that matters is that it has enough RAM to do the job it is designed to do. I have never had a problem with my phone not having enough RAM.

It seems people lose the appreciation for how big 4GB of RAM is. That is still plenty for most people to use on their PCs/Chromebooks/Macs, and phones are optimized for lighter footprints.

Traded in my Xs for the regular 11. Wanted the wide angle camera and the updated cpu, but didn’t want to spend a lot of money this year.
updated CPU for what? Its not that much faster and surely not noticeable in daily use.
So why waste money?

I agree. I have a Max and I'm pretty happy with it. I still get about 10-12 hours of battery all day with light to average use. This year's iPhones are not compelling enough for me to "upgrade". Sure A13 is a definite upgrade and the camera is as well, but not enough for me.

Also, I'll wait till they get the Qualcomm chips back on there and 5G, coz the Intel ones are garbage. I get spontaneous LTE drops in a metro area, and that's just annoying as hell.
intel chip is my biggest grip for not getting the 11, the fact that as soon as i lose lte coverage when i enter office building and only gain it back after exiting elevators and sit near office window. that 4-5 mins of twilight zone where lte doesn't exist.

oh well, you can always go Android. wait, you already did? surprise, shock, amazement.

personally, I love FaceID. I guess other people do too, google is going faceid (and a notch) soon. Faster, more secure, I'm all in.

OP stated that they expect better iPhones from Apple in 2020. I countered and said that Apple may not do such a large leap regarding innovations and new features. Not sure why your attacking me like that for. Perhaps you can reread our comments :)

OP is saying that this year is another iterative upgrade. He/she is saying that owners of iPhones 6 to 7 will likely update their phones to the 11 or Pros as new technologies and features are present. Owners of the XS series may not update as not much has changed. Hope that’s what he/she is saying.

probably the new AI engine. And its as faster than the XS, as the XS is faster than the Qualcomm 855

I thought about upgrading but I love 3D Touch, they got rid of some good features so I will keep the one I have. I do not like the design of the new camera, I wish they would go back to the iPhone 5 design it is the best out of all the iPhones.

Nah, the iPhone 3GS was the best design. But I like the current iPhone X design and not going back.
