Apple Hires Former Time Warner Cable Exec for Cloud Services Team

All these giganticus "providing" companies have high rates of horrible customer service. My personal black list includes Sprint (the absolute worst) and Frontier. I had TW internet service several years ago and didn't have any problems. I guess I was lucky.

He does look like an *******, but let's remember, in that photograph Stern is an executive of Time Warner Cable, which must be full of such persons. He'd have been under pressure to conform. Apple is a different beast, and he may find himself free to be a different person.

Oh wait. This doesn't sound very good as TWC is lower than Comcast in user satisfaction. This mis-step sounds like that guy who was Dixons CEO and was hired to replace Ron Johnson. That blooper turned out to be a massive disaster. Don't you ever learn, Apple?

My two hated companies are SiriusXM and TWC. I can't stand dealing with them. I avoid contact as much as possible.

Argh! Sirius XM is a truly terrible company who don't deserve to exist.

So they hire an exec who was responsible for customer service at a company with the worst rated customer service of any industry? Good move Apple. ????

I just ended what was about a 30 year run as a TWC customer and couldn't be happier.

Apple is big on hiring individuals that fit into the Apple Culture. Interesting to see if a TWC executive will fit in. Seems like a stretch to me. Best of luck, always like to see Apple succeed, makes my technology life much better.

So, is is some kind of bully game ? We have got one of "them" working for us so we have an inside man to strike a better deal with getting TV content with Apple.

Before it was hopeless, but now we have a former Time Warner person, we have a much better chance of getting a deal with them.

I have TWC internet and own my own modem and router, I CONSTANTLY get this letter from them BEGGING me to sign up for their "bundle" with cable and phone (it says it's limited time "preferred customer" price but it's actually just the regular price from their site). They really can't stand that I just have the internet.

I get the same letters. My favorite part is how I can "save money" with one of their bundles. But the price is always more than what I am paying for internet only? How is paying them more saving money??

I worked in HR for TWC under Stern for a few years. I have to say that he is ridiculously smart and had great vision. He also took project input very well and would actually adjust plans were appropriate. He shared with our team several concepts/visions that he had for the future of Cable Industry (and it wasn't just TV/Internet/Phone). So although his picture may make him look like a 'suit', this could turn out to be a good hire. Time will tell.

All the markings of a bad hire. To a VP level position no less, which is very senior at Apple. TWC has no cloud or app experience. And some of the worst, hostile customer service experience ever from a large company

Goodness people, he looks perfectly normal to me.

I, for one, am proud and delighted to look worse than the wrong end of a mule. It makes me appreciate the beauty in everyone else's average looks so I can concern myself with more important things. Like who is this guy, really, and what sorts of mischief is he going to be getting up to with Eddy Cue?

Expect the price of iCloud to go up every few months or so from now on! :D:D

Hopefully we won't lose parts of our backups or photos while they renegotiate with providers...

I'm guessing they are pressing to get a streaming TV deal done, which is why single sign-on is not yet included in the new tvOS.

Don't know the person nor his former company. But from what I read here, he's not the miracle worker that Apple needs to turn their cloud thing into a service.

Howard Stern keeps them alive
