Well darn. I've been reading his site for ten years or so. He is smart and his attention to detail in his reviews are unmatched IMO. I'll miss his reviews.

PS. If I were :apple: I would hire him too.

Could be great news, depending on what Apple does with him. If they put him in charge of PR, then it's a great loss to the tech community and a colossal waste of talent.

What I would love to see Apple do is put Anand in a position where he can tell iOS and OS X designers when they are full of 5h!t. Anand wrote the best reviews of OS X, and his insights into why some aspects of the GUI were masterful while others were failures is unrivaled.

And he was never heard from again.

These kind of hires are sad. I've seen many people who cover different industries and then go on to get hired at one of these large companies and it's the last you see of them.

I disagree. I've found that the reviews on Anandtech did a great job of pointing out positives and negatives. Unlike so many sites, they did not try to paint as a catastrophe every minor flaw or down-side in an Apple product (or any product).

You may recall the insane ramblings on other sites about the minor iPhone antenna problem, where they predicted it would be the end of Apple, calling it things like "Antennagate" when, in fact, it turned out to be a total non-issue for most owners (including me).

Sorry but can you show me main 1 site where they actually said this?
I dont know 1 main site that does this .

Any idea if he's going into the PR dept. or the hardware engineering side of things?

http://www.asymco.com/2012/11/29/the-cost-of-selling-galaxies/

Obviously you realize that you only focussed on a single segment of a single country, right?
YOU do realise you are comparing the whole of samsung electronics worlwide with apple worldwide?

Thats means you are comparing apple with its couple of dozen products in not that many countries with apple samsung which is about in every country with hundreds of products.

And even then its not 10 times as much .

Even if you take other expenses that drive sales you arent even close to 10 times . And then we still ignore that the vast mayority of that add money is for things that anandtech has got nothing to do with, on the contrary with apple .

About the rest, stating the obvious (apple devices have superior CPU and GPU performance on ON SCREEN tasks) and saying that the benefits far outweight the negatives about 64 bit are only the truth. What is your problem?
He never listed the cons just some very subjective and none saying synthetic benchmarks. And you didnt even read what I said on GPU's.

Again the bias is subtle but its there, and frankly I dont care if you see that or not .

Yes, you are biased and samsung sells inferior products.

You can keep repeating that lie it isnt going to make it true.

So all that sucking up to Apple all these years has finally paid off..

----------

He was actually doing that earlier clandestinely.. Now he will do it openly. I hope Anandtech gets out of this guys clutches and starts objective reporting atleast now since this guy has left the publication. Looks like it will be adistant dream.

His hard work paid off.

I think he was very objective. His reviews will be missed. I found him to be quite fair and unbiased.

Me too. But I guess for some people if you say anything positive about Apple that means your biased.

----------

Ive was a hardware designer for 15 years... why the ****** would Apple put him in an area that he presumably knows nothing about?

Perhaps a difference in management styles between Steve and Tim. With Steve you we're hired for a specific job and that's all you ever did. Perhaps Tim feels it's better to have more well rounded executives? Or maybe feels a functional org structure is best and one person should have overall responsibility for design, software engineering, services, etc. Lets not forget that Steve wasn't a designer or engineer and yet he had the ultimate say over both at Apple.

What is weak about the A7 chip?

I might have been unclear here. Aluminum0815 said that Apple hired him to "stop exposing how weak their tech is". So clearly he must have been revealing "Apple's 'weak tech'" in the past and I was just interested in any examples that Aluminum0815 could provide to underline his statement.

And what do you know? Brian Klug is apparently already there:

http://9to5mac.com/2014/08/31/found...ple-hire-from-hardware-review-site-anandtech/

Brian is probably the finest smartphone reviewer extant (although he really took his time getting his reviews out :). He simply dropped off the map and nobody seemed to know what happened to him.

Really good news about Mr. Shimpi. Brian Klug probably told him what a wonderful place it is to work. Also, their R&D budgets will allow him to inject some really good stuff into Apple products.

So what does Apple hope to accomplish by hiring Anand? And how does an objective tech reviewer like Anand fit into a large corporation where the shareholders are most important?

Maybe I just answered my own question. I guess he got a bunch of stock options from Apple.

Very smart from Apple to hire this guy... Which makes me think that, they will never ever hire John Grubber, LOL!!!!

$ $ $

He says he will remain as an adviser to the tech site.
How's that gonna work if he is working for apple?

money speaks :) money also changes a person :) money is everything my friend, it can allow you to do anything at all anywhere at the same time so it is possible sweetheart.

i love you all.

His hard work paid off.

If you think the big shiny red fruity company is the apex of what hard work earns you, you my friend got the buck buck buck on the brain brain brain $ $ $.

I love you All.

I have followed Brian Klug's twitter feed for a couple of years at least. Early today his profile showed him as Senior Smartphone Editor at Anandtech and being in Arizona. Later today, he dropped the Smartphone Editor bit and changed his address to San Jose CA.

I bet the pay is fantastic at Apple. Plus, I wonder how much of his company he retains / still gets revenue streams.

And that will be the end it all for Anand, never to be heard from again

A person who has a distinct gift for giving unbelievable amounts of detail, is obviously a perfectionist when it comes to facts. I'd hedge my bets, but I am very sure you'll be hearing from him again... probably at keynotes, or maybe even in Apple.com product features videos.

It's better having people inside your tent pissing outward than having them outside your tent pissing into it.

Sorry guys but this is a major coup. Anand Lal Shimpi is far different than the typical tech journalist. He is an actual recognized expert on CPU design, SSD design and indeed overall computer engineering.

How many other tech journalists have actually managed to drive improvement of hardware? He did. We have him to thank in good degree for having SSDs today that perform properly in both sequential and random ops. And he did that with a smallish budget and obviously not a fully equipped lab. I look forward to seeing what he does with more resources.

Good for Apple, Anand is a very talented technical person. Always enjoyed his reviews.

Now I have to look for a new guy that I can trust in giving the truth and nothing but the truth when it comes to hardware and software reviews.

But.... I thought we were only gonna hire women because we need to be more diverse and stuff...???? What of our diversity Apple? WHAT OF OUR DIVERSITYYYYYYYY?!?!?!

He's American with an Iranian and an Indian parent. How much diversity do you actually require in one person. Other than being gay or transgender he couldn't possibly be any more diverse.
