No wonder he was always nice for apple, well it did pay of.

Just dont understand the part wheer is still remaining partialy with anandtech.
How can he even pretend to ben neutral in anything?

never stated it was fact, sherlock

He didn't ask for proof, Sherlock, he asked for evidence. If you're going to suggest that Anand is the type of journalist who would accept a payoff to keep quiet, or that Apple is paying off journalists, then you better have some evidence to back up your outrageous suggestions.

No wonder he was always nice for apple, well it did pay of[sic].

Here's a simpler explanation: Apple makes technically laudable products and Anand has the technical expertise to recognize that.

Why must people tear down someone like Anand, suggesting that Apple's hiring of him was part of some payola scheme rather than being based on Anand's keen technical insight and deep knowledge?

I wouldn't say he's being torn down, it's just that people are using logic to make a conclusion that his very pro apple stances and articles might have lead to him getting a job with apple. It's pretty straightforward and makes a lot of sense, actually.

I have no problem with it. Good for him, I suppose.

Wow, this is some really great news. Anand has always been critical with manufacturers, and his input in Apple would only make Apple product much better.

Awesome!!

I'm thrilled, have followed Anand since the late 90's when I downloaded postage stamp sized videos on dial up of his reviews, and as an Apple stockholder I'm double thrilled.

They didn't hire him to hush him up. They hired him because he's one of the best, and he's been a big fan of Apple for a decade.

It's funny as hell reading the comments on AT over this, and sad at the same time.

Reviews always went out of the way to justify something or smooth over whatever issue there was with apple, a lot less for others.

But its sad as his reviews were very indept an I doubt antone is going to do that from now on.

This is like hiring a movie critic as a producer. Apple hasn't made much sense the last years.:cool:

There's nothing wrong with that. You always need criticism.
If you don't have [or refuse to listen to] any, you end up with the Transformers moves...

Many years ago, Bill Gates, when asked why Microsoft was so successful, answered, " I hire the smart people". Well played Apple.

Was a smart fellow call Balmer who forced him out, too.

I'm going to guess he will be in some kind of "competitive analysis" role. Apple had been faulted recently for falling behind the rapid innovation of Android and other platforms. One of Anand's strengths is candidly figuring out the pros and cons of competing systems. This, plus his journalistic experience seeing where the trends are going, makes him valuable for keeping Apple honest. I'd hire him at Apple just to tell stubborn product developers where their usual thinking is falling short of the competition.
What? Where?

I'm running kitkat, tell me where this innovation is since 2.1.

I wouldn't say he's being torn down

Well, I would, as it's suggesting that he was hired as some kind of cheerleader rather than the technical expert that he's shown himself to be. It's like suggesting that a woman was hired because she was flirtatious rather than qualified.

, it's just that people are using logic to make a conclusion that his very pro apple stances and articles might have lead to him getting a job with apple. It's pretty straightforward and makes a lot of sense, actually.

No, it doesn't make a lot of sense for Apple to hire, and thus silence, an independent journalist who has a history of writing articles favorable to Apple.

He doesn't have 'pro-Apple stances.' He is in favor of very good technical products and Apple makes such products.

Reviews always went out of the way to justify something or smooth over whatever issue there was with apple, a lot less for others.

No, that is untrue. His reviews were unbiased and he showed no favoritism. Apple products were reviewed well because they are consistently among the best in class.

i've been reading shimpitech forever.

This is great news for him and Apple and not so much for the public.

Perhaps it was he who was blocking the fabled haswell macbook review.

But not the surface battery life test

So all that sucking up to Apple all these years has finally paid off..

----------

He says he will remain as an adviser to the tech site.
How's that gonna work if he is working for apple?

He was actually doing that earlier clandestinely.. Now he will do it openly. I hope Anandtech gets out of this guys clutches and starts objective reporting atleast now since this guy has left the publication. Looks like it will be adistant dream.

They are among the best in class but even they have flaws or downsides and somehow those always got missed or glossed over.

I have enjoyed Anand's in-depth reviews for several years. It has been the only Apple-reviews I have read, as he doesn't just review the product and how it feels, but also goes in depth with the hardware, CPU etc. (and I love that as an engineer).

I'm going to miss his expertise, and he is clearly one of the most experienced tech bloggers around. Looking forward to seeing what his exact role at Apple is. Maybe he will help Apple fine-polishing the watch, if it's not totally ready for prime-time (like the iPhone when it was first announced in 2007, where it could barely run without crashing).

Exciting times at Apple. They clearly have a plan with the recent hirings.

Or maybe because Apple is one of the only companies that really spends tons of resources on hardware research. Samsung and others mainly use off-the-shelf ARM designs, while Apple have created their own. There goes a lot of work into that, and I think that is what Anand has admired.

Samsung has its own in house chip called Exynos. Samsung used in all their major product. They just using Snapdragon on their US variants.

What? Where?

I'm running kitkat, tell me where this innovation is since 2.1.

Tell me where is the innovations is shine iOS 5? New flat UI with ugly icons? Yes I still cannot get over with the ugly icons...

But.... I thought we were only gonna hire women because we need to be more diverse and stuff...???? What of our diversity Apple? WHAT OF OUR DIVERSITYYYYYYYY?!?!?!

Right now they are hiring bearded bald people.
Men are unfortunately overrepresented in this group.

I'm sure that Apple will be better for having him on the team, but this leaves a huge vacuum for tech consumers looking for factual, accurate, and unbiased information.

So true and so sad at the same time. No other review site was so thorough than his. If there was a one letter change in a cpu part number he would tell you exactly what it meant. I only hope he decided to quit Anand before Apple approached him and that he was not taken from the entire tech community with Apple's bankroll.

Exynos uses ARM arhitecture, it is a combination of various A8, A9, A15 or A7 cores.

Apple (Swift, Cyclone) and Qualcomm (Scorpion, Krait) are custom cores based only on the ARM instruction set, not their "Asomething" arhitectures.

Every single tech news source is very nice for Apple because Apple only makes very nice products. It's very simple.

Samsung spends 10x more than Apple on advertising. Why aren't people like Anand always very nice for them? Well, for starting things up they cheated on benchmarks, and they just do not make very nice products.

Remember when galaxy s3 users thought that they were going to see kitkat? The qualcomm version got it. The exynos didn't. lol Exynos sucks for a variaty of reasons, being a "cmd + c" "cmd + v" of A7 and A15 designs and lack of support are 2 of them.

Yes, iOS isn't innovative because of the icons.

Wow... I didn't see this coming yet at the same time I am not surprised. Anand has used his expertise in analyzing apple in a way that puts other tech review sites to shame. I would not be surprised If he was hired as PR head at apple or as a consultant for future product development.
