I think it's cute how so many here are buying into the false-flag narrative that this legal action has much to do with consumer choice or being over-charged. Even if Apple opened up the App Store like the lawsuit says they should, 6-months later the devs and alternate App Stores will be charging the same $$'s for the apps because they can. Greed is universal and irresitable.

Yep. These kinds of changes trying to be forced on the App Store are primarily for the benefit of billion dollar corporations. Consumer will see little to no benefit. Prices are already low on the App Store. There's nowhere for them to drop significantly.

They may not have bought it if they were aware that there was an option to buy it for cheaper elsewhere. But Apple explicitly forbids developers from making users aware that they have any other choices.
Yes, cause no on knows about Android, Samsung, Google, and all the other options most people choose.

You forgot something: „I can choose not to sell there… AND SELL MY PRODUCTS In ANOTHER STORE“. And that is not possible for iOS developers at the moment.

But fortunately the EU Digital Markets Act will force Apple to open up iOS to other App Stores and to sideloading, so that real competition will be possible on iOS.

As others have already mentioned, you can absolutely sell your mobile apps on another platform. There's Android, and other smaller marketplaces, and Apple has rules in place that allow you to use other payment methods. I use Netflix on my iOS devices, with Apple getting none of my subscription fees through commission.

For one, Apple doesn’t charge for apps other than for its own apps. Prices are set by developers. This should be a very difficult argument for the case to be made.

Aside from that, Apple’s platform is a business and a business can charge whatever it wants for its product/service. No one is forced to do business with Apple and developers voluntarily agree to a contract at the set terms.

It is simply insane that everyone feels like they can dictate prices or percentages of profit on a private company. This is unheard of. If there was such a thing, how about starting with medical equipment and drug prices that have insane markups but people literally depend on these products to survive. Apparently, that’s all just fine.

That too in which case he would be even happier than he is now. Do it 15+15% and everybody is happy.
Actually, the fee is 15% for me as I am a 'small business'.
However, in many countries, the price on the App Store includes sales tax (VAT, ...).
Which means, that, in the end, if I sell for $100, I get around $75.
Then I have the work taxes to apply on this :(.

Well I hope this foundation and its lawyers are all working for free with no charges anywhere, or that would be what is not commonly referred to as a “foundation tax” and someone should certainly start a foundation to sue them. For no charge, of course.

The problem with the App Store isn't the 30%, but that it is RIGGED. Apple chooses the winners and losers, not consumers.

I kinda hope these morons go after the various EU governments, for charging *literal* taxes. 19% VAT on all purchases? Totalitarian, I say.

That's exactly the same as a sales tax in the US. What's the difference except the rate?

Both should be eliminated as regressive taxes. So VAT being significantly higher than most sales tax rates in the US is certainly worse.

Netherlands is to small, so goodby Dutch App Store.... (yes I am dutch myself but not living there)
I get it, politics need money for their housing and green energy problems....

The perplexes me. I don’t understand why people scream and jump up and down about the price of something; it is what it is! If you can’t afford Apple, go elsewhere.

What? Apple don’t set the price of apps, though they contribute to it.

Good luck in them winning. However, you as a consumer should know what you are purchasing. Can't claim ignorance.
I’m not.

I actually as a consumer don’t care how the money is split. The socialist in me cares. Sometimes the socialist in me is more dominant.
