Apple 'homeOS' Mentioned in Job Listing Ahead of WWDC

OS for homepods with a HomeKit update supporting ā€˜Matter’???
This is my ā€œhigh-endā€ expectation - a proper HomeKit hub that supports Matter, is a Thread border router, and is the device that runs HomeKit (and just maybe WiFi too).

My tempered expectation is that it’s just a new name for the OS running HomeX products like HomePod as you say.

It is confusing to me that something as essential as HomeKit runs on tvOS, IPadOS, and audioOS. If HomeKit gets a promotion to ā€œOSā€ status, it will have its own hardware. I hope it’s something new rather than just a rebadge.

Home WiFi routers has a visual user interface, albeit no directly-attached screen. Thus homeOS’ ā€œscreenā€ could just be a similar thin-client experience in which the homeDevice is the server.

It's for a new device shaped like Tim's head that flies around the house like Zardoz: "The iDevice is good! The ethernet port is evil!"

You heard it on Macrumors first!

It's either a rebranding of Homekit to homeOS OR it's Apple's answer to Amazon's sidewalk mesh-network stuff.

Apple would be a welcome player in the home automation security/IOT space. In terms of privacy and integration. Its rather annoying if you like to be bleeding or leading edge and having to have 10 apps and multiple platforms to cover basic functions.
For example- Ring before Amazon had a solid product. But now has significant privacy concerns with Amazon. Same with Alexa and such. Apple's HomePod was overpriced to compete. The Home Pod mini is great but possibly too late. I fo one have an ecosystem of Alexa's. If the price point of the Apple device came down I would convert in a heartbeat. But being late to the market- especially as a more expensive option is never going to do well unless you offer something special. Perhaps HomeOS is that something special. A who new API and architecture of security and automation and connectivity for IOT devices. I am sure we can count on none of our existing devices to ever work with it, but it would be nice to see a future of cohesion for these things.

Can we drop the lowercases already.

We already have iPadOS, so why not MacOS and HomeOS?

Why stop there? Why not change "Mac" to "Mack", like a real English word? And what about this preposterous "OS" ending-- is it letters or a syllable? Gotta fix THAT!!!

homeOS might make its way to the iPad running Mac apps, and workOS on the Macs and Macbooks perhaps šŸ˜† as we get closer to blending some OS functionality across apple silicon devices.

Wasnt there a rumour for a second apple TV? one with high end chip, aimed at gamers etc. What if it wasnt aimed at gamers (does not make a lot of sense for apple), and it is a homekit integrator, with HDMI output, a proper good DAC for new high res music content, maybe a screen for displaying records, and a base for Siri. You can control your house, music and tv from it. it might have speakers or not.

what if the M1 macs could duel boot going into homeOS so you could have access to all your home automations and security footage etc this could be secured with your finger print from your keyboard.

you might say why not just an app but think about your naughty children sneaking in late or up the drain pipe having visted a boy/girl ( sorry does that just happen in US tv )

What it probably is: rebranding of audioOS as homeOS. I mean, it's spelled out in plain sight: "The Apple Music Frameworks team owns the technology stack that enables the system-integrated Apple Music experience on all of our mobile platforms: iOS, watchOS, and homeOS."

What it probably should be. Apple entering the smart home market in categories such as outdoor security cameras (e.g., doorbells, floodlight), thermostat, and door locks.
