I’m really hoping to see major news around HomeKit, Shortcuts, and Automations this WWDC. Maybe this is a sign that something big is coming in the future? 🤞
That’s actually what it was originally called. They should rename iOS to iPhoneOS while they're at it. Would make sense seeing as iPad now has its own OS.
When the original iPhone launched, the OS was called "iPhone OS" and it kept that name for four years, only changing to iOS with the release of iOS 4 in June of 2010.
But HomeKit devices will need a home for it. Right now Home is just an app on iPhone but iPhone is not an ideal device to manage devices in your home. For example, someone at the door instead of seeing him immediately all you have on iPhone is a notification which is lacking. My money is HomeOS will be the OS of that kind of devices using as center(s) of communication in our (smart) home.I would rather think this is about a homekit-focused device.
i think it looks better and unique for apple to use lowercase. Can we drop the lowercases already.
We already have iPadOS, so why not MacOS and HomeOS?

was wondering where CHIP went - seems it turned into matterI bet it has more to do with the forthcoming universal Matter Standard for smart home devices. Google has recently put the new Fuchsia OS into their smart displays as its been built for this, and Amazon is also updating the software for all of their platforms (Alexa, Ring, Blink, etc.). Samsung too.
Unless you're 100% Apple, Homekit is not up to snuff... and too many devices have homekit only models. Homekit creates the most frustrating mess of interoperability compared to other platforms (which also have issues.... Amazon blocking useable functions for Ring devices for example with Google Assistant and Nest doing the same for Alexa devices). I'm really looking forward to Matter and finally being able to use Siri, Google, or Alexa to change my damned thermostat.
Google, Amazon, Apple back Matter standard so smart home ...

That's still the internal name of the OS from when it was called that before iOS 4. The problem, of course, is that the iPod touch still exists...They should rename iOS to iPhoneOS while they're at it. Would make sense seeing as iPad now has its own OS.
I don't know exactly where I heard about it first, it's not clear in iOS.Where? it is a branch of TVOS which was a branch of iOS. I've never heard of audioOS. I'm on the developer beta program, make frequent updates, generally HomePod has an update when TVOS is updated.
This is what I'm hoping for. An Apple version of the Nest Hub is really the last thing I need to finally move from the Google Home ecosystem over to the HomeKit ecosystem. My guess would be that's the name of the OS running on that rumored "HomePod with a screen" product
It was audioOS when it ran its own fork of iOS rather than a modified tvOS.Where? it is a branch of TVOS which was a branch of iOS. I've never heard of audioOS. I'm on the developer beta program, make frequent updates, generally HomePod has an update when TVOS is updated.
Didn't Microsoft have a home automation research project back 2010 called HomeOS? Oh wait I found a wiki.
An Apple job listing has mentioned "homeOS," an otherwise never-before heard of Apple operating system, ahead of WWDC next week.

Spotted by developer Javier Lacort, the Apple job listing for a Senior iOS Engineer in Apple Music explicitly mentions "homeOS" on two occasions, alongside Apple's other operating systems including iOS, watchOS, and tvOS.Interestingly, the job listing mentions homeOS as a "mobile platform," seemingly highlighting it as more akin to iOS and watchOS than systems like macOS and tvOS, but it is not clear why that would be the case.
The operating system could simply be a rebranding of Apple's current smart home software, in much the same way iOS for iPad was rebranded iPadOS and OS X was changed to macOS, or potentially an entirely new OS.
Earlier this year, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman commented that Apple still lacks a "unifying strategy" for the smart home market. It is possible that homeOS could be software designed to spearhead a more centralized smart home strategy, perhaps unifying the HomePod's audioOS and the Apple TV's tvOS. Apple is rumored to be developing a combined Apple TV and HomePod device and a HomePod with a screen. For now, what homeOS will precisely entail remains purely speculative.
Apple's homeOS could feasibly debut as soon as next week at WWDC, where the company is expected to unveil major updates to its various operating systems.
Update: Apple has now removed "homeOS" from the job listing and replaced it with HomePod and tvOS. "You’ll get to work with system engineers across Apple, learning the inner workings of iOS, watchOS, tvOS and HomePod, and optimizing your code for performance in ways only Apple can," reads the replacement text.
