Not wanting to start a fight and I really admire those who serve in combat zones, but here is a question: Why give special discounts to those who willingly and voluntarily join the army, navy, air force etc. and why give nothing to police, fire, paramedics etc. who face danger and horrific working conditions? I realise that some military personnel have to be away from home for long periods but they do not all face extreme danger. I would think an inner-city cop faces more regular danger than the US private peeling potatoes in a mess hall in current day Germany.

You are suggesting Apple sell its products at a loss to Veterans? Why? FYI I am a Vietnam Veteran and use the very nice Apple Military offerings.
I think that person you are quoting us not serious and just trolling.

I don’t think any service has their own peels potatoes anymore.

Contractors do that.

The fallacy of your comparison to Police Officers, they too have their potato peelers supporting the frontline troops. For every Police Officer, a large numbers of support staff needed. The same with the military. One example an aircraft carrier. Six thousand sailors supporting less then a thousand pilots.

The reality, the unit is the Veteran and or Police officer. Seperation Not an option in either example.

Thank you for your service!
And 49% of us veterans don't know what and how to respond to that statement. (Not trying to criticize a sincere gratitude, but it is really hard for the receiving side)
Have a good read in the article below.

10% is insulting. Don't insult veterans with this kind of everyday discount.
Still better than Home Depot which only offers the discount on 3 days of the year. 😓

As a veteran, I am happy that Apple extends a discount on all products and not just the refurbished, close-outs, etc. one finds on sale at non-Apple stores & websites. Thanks, Apple.
I was also glad that they offered that to us. They don't have to and are not required to.

And for those of us who served honorably, we can still get it from the Exchange legally tax free.

And your point is? Military but not domestic deserve the discount? If you feel that way, great but I can't see that you have supported either side.

No I was not saying that at All. I was replying to the comparison argument with a bit of education about the importance of all involved. The recognition of who, what, where, a much larger topic.

A lousy 10%. Wow.

Something is better than nothing. I applaud their effort.

I never said that. In fact the "tacky" part was specifically aimed at how most companies commercialise days like today.

New Flash: Companies can be respectful and make money at the same time.

I think Apple is handling this day with respect, offering a little something to those that served, and not turning it into something political (I guess by offering them something, they are, but you know what I mean).

10% off is a joe-blow discount. Veterans deserve more.
Well it's better than nothing, but I will say I'm pretty sure this is the same as the education discount. And that I don't know how to feel about. Someone putting on a uniform knowing full well it drastically increases their chances of dying, versus some Gen Z college freshman demanding that the world acknowledge 72 genders, just doesn't seem right. And I say this as someone who is left-leaning. We just don't have our priorities in place as a country, and that has nothing to do with politics and has everything to do with who we are as citizens.

Nothing hard about it. Return the kind expression with a warm smile and a nod or shake of the hand. Even a ‘thank you’.
Because it has come to the point where it feels like an empty line that people just throw at us.
A simple variation may be all that it takes to make it feel less empty.
Ever been in a situation where people say "You too" at the checkout line and it turned out it was a wrong response that leads to awkwardness?

Slightly disappointing that there was no Remembrance Day activity recognition award. Otherwise good stuff.

Note that the statement “limited to the United States” in the article is somewhat inaccurate, as it would imply that the veterans’ day challenge and its award are only available in the US (i.e. geographically limited, which they aren’t). In reality, they are available to iphone users all over the world whose devices are set up with the US region regardless of their actual physical/GPS location. I, for example, am physically in Mexico, but have all my devices set up to the US region, and I did get the veterans’ day challenge (and won the award too!).

HD now offers it year round, I'm guessing since Lowes has done that for a while they decided to do the same. All you need is an ID, and the VA Veterans ID is accepted if you are not retired.

“Heres To The Brave Ones” - Oh. And buy more stuff!

What a condescending insult. Unbelievable.

Really? I took it as a nice riff on the "Here's to..." adds of yore.

How much is the discount? Veterans should get at least a 50% off. 75% is better.

I don't need a ****in' discount, or your well-meaning but ultimately empty words of thanks. I served and came out on the end whole, with education and skills that have helped me transition to a professional career, the best group of friends a guy could ever hope for, and the pride of having helped make history. I thank America every day for the privilege, and I couldn't be prouder that my daughter is now on active duty.

Want to thank a veteran? Donate to the Fisher House Foundation, the charity which builds, equips, staffs and maintains free accommodations for family members of wounded, injured, and sick servicemembers and veterans hospitalized for long-term care at military medical centers and VA hospitals nationwide, so they can be by the side of their loved one — who wasn't as lucky as me — during treatment and recovery.

Tim China may be the most disingenuous person alive.
Weak, very weak attempt trying to be edgy.

Want to really help veterans? Get your behind down to the recruiting office and signup, Share the burden. Posting crap about how big the discount should is really sad.

It has? Wow.

I’ve never heard anyone say, “Thank you for your service” except with a sincere tone. Not a single time. That‘s not the context I got from your earlier post, but the response is the same: a polite smile and nod.
