Since the first iPhone was introduced I didn’t had every model, but I didn’t had anything else then an iPhone. Because of the decision of Apple to not include the EU in the AI Features I will absolutely consider to buy a Pixel Phone instead. Therefore good luck reaching the +10%

You could just stick with what you have. Apple didn't cancel AI in the EU, they delayed it. I just don't care about AI, in any fashion, so it's not part of a the upgrade equation for me.

That said, the Pixel line is nice. My wife is loyal and has been using them since the Pixel 2.

Apple Hopes iOS 18 AI Features Will Boost iPhone Shipments by 10% in 2024

How so if they haven’t even started beta testing any of the ai stuff at all? Same old overpriced phone with a 60hz screen, there are $199 Android phones with better specs.😱

The Samsung A15 is quite nice for $200 fully unlocked, or free with a month of service from several prepaid carriers.

You could probably get a used good condition S21 for about the same money and have a better experience, but if you want new...

"Apple Hopes iOS 18 AI Features Will Boost iPhone Shipments by 10% in 2024"

If Apple were to release their AI globally in all supported languages, like ChatGPT and Gemini, they could expect a 10% increase. However, with their current rollout schedule, which includes years of beta testing, limited to English, and restricted to the US, they will fall short.

By the time they complete the full rollout, including support for countries like Poland and languages like Polish (similar to Microsoft's Copilot), they will be five years behind again.

Am I crazy, I swear the AI features weren’t going to be available for beta until January 2025..
The way it’s been announced It sounds like it’ll be in three stages.

Fall 2024: image and text generation and editing features, new Siri design, the ability for Siri to understand if you stumble through your words (likely 18.0 or 18.1)

Winter 2024: ChatGPT integration into Siri (likely 18.2)

Spring 2025: context awareness in Siri, like the airplane tracking demonstration they showed (likely 18.4)

two things can be true.

i have zero interest in all the ai stuff they were pitching, and if anything, companies trying to jump on that hype train dissuades me from buying their products.

but i also won't be the least bit surprised when apple sells more iphones than ever on the backs of endless influencer 'thinkpieces' on how ai has transformed their lives through *checks notes* 'genmoji'.

I could true, but then again: iPhone Mirroring is also disabled, what has that to do with the AI issues? Its just apple being a baby.

Apple is living in a fantasy and would have better luck reaching that 10% goal if they released the 16 in actual colors instead of washed out watercolor pastels. Again.
You realize stories like this are made up, we have no idea what Apple's sales goals are.

How many years can Apple sell the same phone to the same customers and expect growth year over year? Surely there is a ceiling somewhere?

Apple's outsourced OpenAI features won't even be available on these phones until several months after they ship - and probably won't be out of beta until the next phone ships. So anybody who buys these phones because of AI are really, really, easily swayed by the reality distortion field.

I want to take the optimistic read here. If they really can finally deliver on actual generally useful AI, with the old Google Assistant as the bar, that would be good.

Google did briefly have a really good “AI” assistant more than ten years ago. But as usual Google managerial infighting killed that.

I don’t care about the ChatGPT integration, we already have that. I care about a Siri that can actually do useful basic things with the information it already has about me, on device. I have literally said that verbatim for years, and now Apple has finally said it verbatim in public.

The pieces are there now, let’s see how long it takes them to put it together into a working Siri. The problem is more political than technical at this point. Same problem Google has.

I mean anyone can download the ChatGPT app. It would help if you got a free ChatGPT Plus subscription with the purchase of a new iPhone, and OpenAI could get like a 2% royalty or something.
ChatGPT is great, but hardly the end goal. And Apple is just including it for the "general knowledge" questions. If Apple Intelligence works as advertised, iOS/Mac will skyrocket people in terms of productivity. Just ask the AI to do things for you, and it can actually do them - on your data, living on your phone. Not just spit out some text, which you then read through and manually follow the instructions. App's implement hooks into the system, and that means it isn't limited to just Apple's apps, but tens of thousands of apps on the app store (Because developers have already implemented these things to power Shortcuts actions.) In a way, A(pple)I is like a dynamic Shortcuts generator.

This is like the original promise of Siri, but actually realized because you don't have to memorize a bunch of specific keywords - you just speak normally and actions can be stacked.

I'm currently using (and am completely happy with) an iPhone 13 Pro Max. I had zero plans to upgrade this year until the rumor about a possible pink color came out. That alone would be enough to make me upgrade. I could NOT care less about AI and won't use it anyway. It's kind of annoying that if I do buy a new phone to get a new color, I'll go into a metric that potentially lets Apple claim the sales boost is due to AI. Not fair, haha!!

Does that mean all iphone 16s are getting 8GB of RAM? That's a nice little bump.

I have to say though, the new Photos app on ios 18 is absolutely dreadful, hope their other AI features aren't as badly designed

A big pay off for Apple for under equipping the amount of RAM in iPhones for so many years. Cheap out on the phone in the first place, cause it to not be good enough for the new thing, get another purchase. Absolute genius really.

Wishful thinking, the people who want This are locked behind 3 year cellphone contracts that are offered by Verizon and AT&T who are still rocking iPhone 14’s.

Shhh don't tell anyone that most of Apple Intelligence will be turning up in in Spring 2025.
