Hacked iTunes accounts?!

Yesterday morning I woke up EARRRRRLY (5am?) to an email from Apple stating that I made a purchase from another computer that I have never used before. I was half asleep and paid hardly no attention to it.
About 630 am I wake up again and scroll thru my Springboard to see an app that I had not downloaded on there. The title was in Chinese lettering and the app was called "Happy City" - icon featured some playing cards.
Needless to say I woke up to a 35.96 deduction from my PayPal account!!

How do I get Apple to refund these fraudulent charges? Do I dispute with PayPal first?

Back in early March, my Apple ID was hacked into and fraudulent charges were made onto my credit card. The hacker(s) bought 3 x $20 gift cards using my card tied to my Apple ID account. Fortunately, I saw these transactions taking place as it was happening, so I quickly disabled my cc so that further charges werent made. And no, my iPad was NOT jailbroken. It was running stock iOS.

PayPal fixed the fraudulent charges, and some weeks later, I buy the iPad2. However, I am not able to download/purchase any apps and a popup appears stating 'Your Apple ID has been disabled.' Thats all it says.

I call Apple, and they said that this issue occurred to A LOT of users, and the Apple ID department is flooded with requests to fix, and would take a WEEK to resolve the issue. Seriously? Just to re-enable my Apple ID?

I'm pretty disappointed in Apple. First off, they allowed my Apple ID to get hacked, and now my cc# is exposed. Secondly, they are not doing ANYTHING to resolve the issue. Phone calls, Apple Support Communities, and more phone calls did not resolve the issue. They just told me to 'wait a week.' I'm essentially stuck in limbo. Now I am forced to wait a week or more for something THEY caused.

As a consumer, what can I do to protect myself from even Apple's lax security? What agency/department can I go to escalate the issue? Jobs himself? I'm getting desperate. Please Apple, fix this issue. And increase your security protocol for Apple ID accounts.

This is how I feel right now

Here are some tips to make your Apple ID much more secure:

1) Make your password VERY HARD to guess
2) Use iTunes gift cards instead of credit-cards
3) Change your Apple ID (the name)
4) Make a new CC that is more secure in transactions

I had my ID disabled back in October. There was a charge through Paypal that I never made and filed a dispute. My money was refunded a week later but then Apple disabled my ID. I found out a few weeks later that they also blocked all of my devices from ever being able to create new accounts. My CC cards were also banned from making new accounts.

The only thing I could do was to sell my five iPhones and two Macs. One was a one month old 4S. I did sell them, and got two new iPhones and two new Macs. Signed up for a new iTunes account with no problems using an alternate name and address. I now use a prepaid AMEX card that is free to load and make purchases on since my cards were all banned.

I never heard from the buyers afterwards on if they were able to use the phones/computers with their accounts without them being disabled since Apple blocked them from iTunes so i assume they were OK.

I had purchased nearly 3,000 TV shows on the blocked account plus thousands of songs that I can never access again to download if I ever lose them. I did buy all my apps all over again on the new account.

How much money was refunded?
How much money did you lose in apps, tv shows, and music?

Whenever there is a questionable purchase from iTunes Apple automatically disables the associated Apple I.D to keep any potential bad purchases from going through.

Now back to the OP.

It looks like those purchases were made through PayPal ? Or did someone use your Apple I.D to make a purchase on PayPal.

From what I understand any transaction requires registered people and in order to become registered an email is sent to the person. Which means you should have received an email from PayPal if someone was using your Apple I.D. to make a purchase.

I'd talk to PayPal .

Great now my Apple ID is Disabled (and no it doesn't say for security reasons).

Resolution!:

Yesterday morning after I receive my email from PayPal (for the fraudulent charges), I immediately go to Apple.com's Support page. I used Express Lane and received a ticket number. Well I couldn't wait so I immediately pointed my web browser to PayPal.com and sign in (changed my pw there too while I was at it) and filed a dispute for the fraudulent charges. So now I have a claim with PayPal.
This morning I went thru the Express Lane on Apple's Support page and hit the Call Me Now button. Within a few seconds I was talking to live customer support. I told him the whole story (see previous posts) and told him I filed a dispute thru PP. He said, "You did exactly what we would have wanted you to do. I do see the chargeback from PP. Let me go ahead and re-enable your account for you." Within minutes I was up and running again. :)

I love :apple:.
