Apple has always been a company that charges more for their products. Some have criticised this but most of their customers (including me) have been happy paying more knowing that we will be taken care of if there is a problem, due to the legendary Apple support.

I hate to be the guy who brings up Steve Jobs, but the reason why Apple is a reliable trusted brand today is because he implemented this. He charged an amount which was much higher than the industry but then took care of all of his customers. I remember my friend had a few issues with his MacBook Pro 15 back in the day and after the third issue in a year, the Genius handling it straight up replaced the whole machine with the latest model.

If Tim Cook started Apple, it would probably be a very profitable company but it would nowhere stand for the reliability the Apple brand stands for.

Instead of acknowledging the mistake and promising free repairs on ALL machines affected, regardless of warranty status, they pull this crap. Unfortunately, it's the same for iPhone repairs, Mac repairs, etc.

I really hate this new direction Apple is heading in, where the reliability of their products is poor and the customer service is getting worse. Profits are going up I guess and by the time people wise up, Tim Cook will probably retire.

10 years and Apple still have issues in laptops. See every Mac laptop from last 10 years and you will find issues.

Which may come with their own new issues. So... Waiting is futile.
Sure, but with every revision the design is getting more mature and reliable. The 2017 appears to be somewhat more reliable than the 2016 already. Also it's already been a year since they were released and Coffee Lake CPUs are a decent upgrade. I'm willing to wait.

Well this is interesting my 2017 had an SSD failure in January 2018 and then the display failed May 2018 both parts replaced under warranty.

I did challenge Apple to replace the MacBook but they wouldn’t budge ....

Of course, today the best way to go is to wait.

Well, bought mine around Octomber, had a small white spot on screen, Apple replaced the screen immediately.
Now this, wtf? So we must hope that our mac wont break before the warranty ends?
Basic model costs 1800 € (256gb in EU).
How about immediate replacement of all defective units?

I just had chat with apple support. I must bring laptop in the nearest Apple service so they can check if it is affected. It cannot be done over the chat or phone.

Apple marketing... Clearly the Touch Bar has proven to be a more reliable design. It reduces SSD and logic board failures.

Yep, that’s right, we told you that you’d regret not buying the Touch Bar.

I wonder what the point of the non-touchbar having an SSD module is, if the security makes it so that you need to replace the motherboard at the same time anyways. All the other rMBPs have it soldered.

I must apologise ,according to EU laws, i have 2 years warranty. If Macbook dies after 1 year, the store where you bought laptop is responsible for repair, refund or replacing defected laptop for one more year. So ,i will wait,no need to hurry. Also,it seems Great Britain has best EU warranty and thats 6 years.

Are you sure it wasn't Louis Rossman who identified it for apple?

So, what happens if we get this out of warraty period? Why don’t they issue a recall... this seems pretty serious enough. So, if my SSD fails out of warraty period, Do I have to pay for a new motherboard that was not damaged by my use? Makes little sense to me.
Only your money makes sense to Apple.

See every electronic device from the last 100 years and you will find issues :p

The difference between a good and a bad companies is how they deal with the issues and make their customers happy. Apple did a good job under Steve. Don't know about the current Apple.

Makes little sense to me also, why should I have to pay for a problem not caused by me.

Apple had problems with the 2011 Thunderbolt MacBook Pros and the Video card. It was only about two years ago they stopped replacing my logic boards. I expect they will do the same for these units.

Apple has identified a limited hardware issue affecting the latest 13-inch MacBook Pro models with function keys, according to an internal memo distributed to Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers late last week...
