Well, I'm waiting to know if iMovie re-encodes imported HDV and how well facial recognition works in iPhoto.

Do tell...please!

Thanks!

is this a full version i am missing my ilife cds. and i have no iphoto or garageband on my newly restored mac mini. I did a fresh install to leopard and it didn't have i life on it...

iLife came on your original Mini discs, but is NOT a part of Leopard itself.

So, if you had Tiger originally on your Mac Mini, and did a clean wipe to a Leopard retail disc, you would have to install iLife from your original Tiger DVD's.

Will it be an easy upgrade from 08? Just got my first Mac in March so i'm not sure how upgrades go :) I can tell u they sucked on my Dell though.

Just returned from the local BB (Fayetteville, AR) they said that they have iLife '09 in stock but *WILL NOT* sell it until tomorrow. Apparently they had copies out on the shelves but just received an email from Apple stating not to sell it until tomorrow and had to pull them. Congrats to those who got it today. Hopefully, I'll pickup my copy tomorrow.

It's very easy, just run the installer and accept the defaults. It needs a restart of your Mac at the end.

so has anyone installed it yet and tryed it out?

Lets have some feedback.

iPhoto is running the Faces thing now... says about 67 minutes for 4000 photos. Seems to be picking up a lot of faces, even smaller ones in the background or blurry ones.

Dunno, but I can't imagine they'd change that. People would get ticked if iMovie '09 performed slower than the last one did on their machine.

I guess what I mean is as opposed to [from MacWorld.com's review of '08]:

"For interlaced video such as DV and 1080i HDV, iMovie ['08] now uses single-field processing. This means every other horizontal line of the video is thrown out, which reduces the sharpness of the footage. High definition (HD) footage is processed internally at 960-by-540 pixels at most, and that’s not as high resolution or sharp as it could be (and was in prior versions)...In short, if you want maximum quality output from an HD device, don’t use iMovie ’08."

will '09 better and more accurately handle HDV.

I've not really been anywhere (or have very few geotagged pictures ;))

Does it show the pictures as it's detecting the faces?

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5G77 Safari/525.20)

I might have to run out and get my copy tonight. I'm looking forward to using faces.

Geotagging seems a little flakey, figured out how to move the pin to where it should be.

Can I torrent it now and pay for it tomorrow when I can actually get a copy? :D

edit: Apple Stores in Canada say End of Week..... BOOOO!

Man I just purchased a new unibody Macbook on Friday, it came with iLife 08. Do you guys know if I am eligible for a free upgrade?

Thanks

all computers bought on or after Jan 6 that didn't come with ilife 09 can be upgraded for a 9.95 shipping fee. go to apple.com and on the store page for ilife you'll see a link called 'ilife up to date'. follow the directions.

to my knowledge that's the only way to do the 'free' upgrade. you can't pick it up at the stores.

Am I the only one finding this strange - surely Apple should be selling this in their stores first and then other retailers.

someone at Best Buy's home office probably didn't inform the stores to hold the stock until tomorrow.

I'm going to check this thread once every hour for the rest of the day hate every minute of it.

Hi Sky Blue,

Apple put demos about Facebook syncing with faces. Do you know if it works the same way with Flickr (I'm wondering the sync back functionnality is the same for Flickr)

Thanks, lucky you !

I love how the Best Buy guy details how to get it today like it's some kind of scam. God forbid someone has to wait until the official release to get their copy of iLife '09... Oh no! I just went on vacation and need face recognition as soon as possible so I can upload my pictures to facebook. :p
