Im fine using a state or federal issued app to use a digital ID instead of Apple's wallet. Apple is way overstepping here.
why? I do hope it will become available in CAI hope California says "NO thanks, NOT interested !"
This is false. At least in Arizona it is. The state had a digital ID in development for a couple years or so which was finally released to the public in March 2021. A 100% of AZ ID holders can get their digital ID on an iPhone and/or Android, if they choose to do so, today. The staff and infrastructure is already in place to support this technology. The Apple wallet is just another option in addition to the state’s app giving the end user more choice. It’s not because taxes would go up. The complaints are there because money is being spent on something that will only benefit half of the population, the half who own iphones. Also why do states have to pay when apple has a lot more money, it’s loaded (I doubt any single state has $2 trillion).
Apple doesn’t have $2 trillion either. It’s not because taxes would go up. I doubt that Google is not planning of doing this for Android users.
Doesn’t the driver's license contain sensitive and personal information?I don't understand the question... We're talking about digitizing driver's licenses... already a government document. Why would Apple need to provide any government with documents they already have?
Yeah why? It's not like CA is going to force you to do this.I hope California says "NO thanks, NOT interested !"
According to CNBC, the agreement "mostly portrays Apple as having a high degree of control over the government agencies responsible for issuing identification cards."
Only half of their citizens. And that makes it questionable for a state to spend money in that.
Usually a picture ID is used to identify the holder. How will the police ID a body if there is only an iPhone nearby?
Especially since the initial states already have apps that can hold this information. It's unbelievable that this is going to be funded by tax dollars. Greedy Apple strikes again. Their worshipers will no doubt disagree. It’s way more in apple’s benefit than the states to expand IDs to the Wallet app. I’m surprised Apple doesn’t offer a bigger logistical and financial support in the deployment of this feature as I think the adoption rate will be very low.
I would love this to be coming to Canada, but not holding my breath
