If I could get these in the form factor of the Beats X earbuds (includes a rubber gasket) and they don't even have to be Beats branded and would prefer if they weren't, I would be all over them. Hopefully such a thing happens. I've never had luck with the included iPhone and iPod earbuds so I would think that these wouldn't fit me either. And I prefer a sealed ear when listening to music.

What’s Best Buy’s secret for getting them? I ordered a set on around 7/18 and they shipped around the 25th and arrived a couple days later; Apple is still quoting a 6 week shipping or in store.

AT&T and Verizon have them in stock ONLINE ONLY. I ordered mine last Thursday at 5pm and got them delivered to my door at 10am the next morning (17 hours).

I think it's all supply and demand. I would never have thought to order them at an AT&T or Verizon store. You can't get them in their stores either, only online. My thought would be first, Apple Store, next Best Buy. And those are where they're selling out. Also, I was told from an Apple Store employee, you can check Apple's stock in their stores in the morning every day, and if they have some in stock, you can hold until you can pick up later in the day. She said they got a dozen or so every few days.

My god do I love my AirPods. They were in stock at Best Buy not long ago as posted on this site. Just pop them in your ear and you're good to go with no hassle. No a huge fan of the looks but whatever

I will take functionality over form any day. The AirPods we already know has the battery power, it's the simplicity of the most convenient little features that works so well with removing the AirPod to stop or resume when you put the AirPod back in your ear, the connectivity is flawless to the iPhone and they even communicate with my Apple Watch. This is what Apple does so well, is integrating their products that are tethered together.

And yet another ear bud from Apple that is not designed to actually stay in the ear. Every earbud I've gotten with an iPhone still sits in the boxes in the closet unused. I need them to stay in the ear or they are useless.

Mine stays in the ear perfectly during my 55 minute weight workouts and 35 minutes on the elliptical, not even a hint that they'll fall out. The EarPods on the other hand, fell out all the time. I think it's because of the wire pulling on the pods downward. Without the wire, they don't fall out. Seriously. I was concerned at first, and didn't buy them... then I met a few people at my gym who had them, they showed me, wired EarPods, shook their heads, they came out in like 10 seconds. Then they tried the AirPods, shook their heads, went crazy, never came out. They really are great.

If you care about how they look, rather than the freedom from wires snagging on things when you're working out, you care about different things than I do.

The battery life is phenomenal - I had the Powerbeats2 with a 8-10 hour battery, I had to charge it twice a week. Now with the AirPods, I only have to charge them once every 2-3 weeks. They have a 24 hour battery life - as long as you're using them less than 4 hours at a time, you're good - like I am - a 1.5 hour workout a day - 5 days a week - about 3 weeks!

If you want to wear them ALL the time, then the 4 hour limit at a time hinders you, and these aren't for you. But that's not my use case. For my use case, they're perfect.

In other words: planned paucity = $$$
How is making less than the demand= more $ ?
They are loosing revenue, and some people may even buy other brands.

Seems the majority of MacRumors members thought they'd be a total failure and those that did buy them would lose them instantly.
Apple added fund AirPod to the phone, so people can find them.

And they look ridiculous.... probably why no one is knocking them off.

No one product is ever for everyone and AirPods are no exception. I think they look fine and so do most owners of them. They also seem to have the best microphone quality which is partly a function of their “ugly” design. The same goes for the fit in your ear. I’ve run miles with them and I sweat a lot too so I’m always worried they will slip out of my ears but they never have. Obviously there are millions of happy customers and the only real complaints I’ve heard are from non-customers.

I think companies don't want to invest in infrastructure for a new product category. They can always ramp things up.
When marketing anticipates low demand the manufacturing process is designed for low volumes, it is difficult to ramp up production with low volume manufacturing process, they have to change the manufacturing process of the product & all the components that go into the product, which will force Apple to re validate the manufacturing process by testing AirPods again. This will result in delays.

Just so you know... AirPods fit much differently than regular EarPods. The reason why EarPods don't fit in your ear properly is because they are extremely light and are being pulled by the wire that's connected to them.

AirPods have a weight to them because of how small they are and all the technology that's packed into them. There are also accessories that will give you that "sealed ear" feeling you want.

Some people will buy anything with an apple logo at any price.

Most of the new Apple products don't have an Apple logo at all. Apple Watch, AirPods.

You need to come up with another excuse.

Plus, both of those products are the best in their categories, for great prices. AirPods - much cheaper than most fully wireless, and Apple Watch - very competitive price for what it does.

Again, you need to come up with better excuses.

Audio quality from them is pretty trash. For me they're just backup headphones to use when I gotta go out and don't feel like carrying my regular earphones instead. I think that's what they have going for them the most, portability and mobility.

And more nonesense from someone who’s never even tried them.

The question for me would be, what is the production rate? I’ve seen them popping up more when I’m out and about, and I absolutely love mine, but I’m not seeing much interest for from people I know, so I find it kind of hard to believe that demand is that high.

I go running with them on. Ironically they stay in better than any other sport bud I've used. So I guess they either fit well or not st all.
They have never fallen out of
my ears.

I'm starting to see them around more often. They still look goofy AF imo, but obviously it's not bothersome enough for people not to buy it. If I could have a pair painted black without having to pay $100+ for the job, I'd purchase. Until then, I'm not buying out of principle, and my high standards for aesthetics.

Besides Emojis, Stickers & GIFs, this may go down as Tim Cook's crowning achievement !

Didn't have a chance to listen to the Earnings CC ... did anybody ask Tim about "Touch ID under Glass" ???

I don't think most of the Professional Analysts who cover Apple understand the significance, if Apple gets it wrong ... it's a Sink of Swim issue for Apple ... off the Radar of most, but should NOT be !

I've had my AirPods since about February and I love them. The first few weeks I used them they constantly felt like they were going to fall out of my ears but to date that has never happened. They sound great to me (yes I know there are better sounding earphones on the market but for my use case, I could not justify spending more marginally better sound quality). My favorite thing about these is their simplicity of use and not having to mess with wires. I have never had a problem with battery life as I never get a chance to wear them for multiple hours at a time and they recharge very quickly in the case.

Not surprised, there pretty much hasn't been a day since launch I haven't nestled these guys into the tiny watch pocket of my jeans. Use them incessantly... such a surprisingly good product

the pair I got was defective. So maybe Apple needs to slow down lol

except I wish they had better sound quality. I really hope the next gen version of these sound significantly better
They don't sound bad by any means, though

I thought they were artificially limiting the supply. I guess not. Are they really that great guys? How comparable are they to the quality of the lightning EarPods? What is real battery life like? Also how much of an impact does it have on the battery life of a 7 plus for example? Equal or less to an Apple Watch? Do you think the 2nd gen is worth the wait if one doesn't have a pair by now? It's already almost a year after the keynote.

So these are the best overall earphones I have ever had. But I'd say they are only good. First, they don't fit my large ears great. They don't fall out unless they are hit by something (or I'm lying down). But they aren't in their snug like on smaller ears. Second, they don't noise cancel and they don't muffle sound like big cans would. So on the subway they get drowned out when the train pulls into the station.Their sound quality is entirely mediocre. No better than EarPods.

But they just work. Take them out of the ear and they pause. The Bluetooth really holds a signle. The battery life is basically infinite as long as you remember to charge the case every few days for a few minutes. They don't impact phone battery life in any way I can tell. And I'm not sure why it would. If I'm listening to music or podcasts with my phone in my pocket that is basically a non-event as far as battery life is concerned. But I carry two phones so I have no battery life issues since workload is split.

All that said, I would wait. I suspect Apples lack of dramatic increase in production is because they are working on version two. I suspect there will be new ones for Christmas.

They may fit better than EarPods but I prefer the fit and sound of something like Sony earbuds or the Beats X but without the uncomfortable neckband and wires. I wouldn't mind trying out Airpods at some point if I can ever find them and they're available to try on. We'll see. I think Apple would be crazy not to do something like a cross between AirPods and Beats X Wireless.

I have had mine for a few months now, and I use them way more then I thought I would or ever have before with the wired ones. They stay in my ears just fine at the gym.

I got mine at an apple store, I went to one of those web sites that notify you when a store has stock. My local apple store gets stock of them from time to time and when I got the notification that they were in stock, I went to the store app on my phone, paid for them with picking them up at the store as my way of getting them. Ran up there and they had mine on hold. Decided I wanted them one day, waited maybe two weeks and then had them.
