Do you care if they used genuine replacement parts for the airplane that you are flying on? The point is who get's the blame, with genuine parts the manufacturer guarantees the quality control.
What's with the stupid anologies?

This. Apple should let people install battery replacements themselves, with genuine parts, that preserve the device warranty.

Like they do with cars, which are arguably a higher safety threshold.
I’m gonna need a source for car makers allowing users to replace the batteries on an EV… possible, I suppose, but it doesn’t pass the sniff test with me 🤔

It is not a difficult issue to solve. Just charge a deposit at the time of the purchase of a new battery that gets refunded when the old battery is returned. This is how automobile batteries are handled.

Yes, this. But it's pretty hard to force someone to hand over something they threw in the trash or took out and misplaced.

If you don't have any clue of estimating costs, just dont spread BS. Battery cost them less than $10 and labor/overhead costs def don't worth $140
Speaking of spreading BS, where is your source for the fact that iPhone batteries cost Apple less than $10? I didn't know Apple makes their actual cost of components public knowledge?

Will you throw your old battery in the general trash or will you promise to recycle it as well as Apple can?

How many people will genuinely try to recycle? Most people lazily throw everything in the same trash and then the trash becomes dangerous to handle because it is mixed with the batteries.
Not a problem here. Every supermarket is required to take back empty batteries. There is usually a box to throw them in near the check out

Also I swear Apple is cheating when it comes to the reported battery health. I have an iPad Air 4 and AppleWatch Series 6 with AppleCare+ and the battery level is sitting at 82 % FOREVEEEEEEEEER. I just want to get it replaced already

In other forums I have seen reports that Apple refuses to replace batteries it says are “within normal operating limits” (>80%) even at the owners’ cost. In particular I have a 2yo iPad Air4 with clearly reduced battery “use” capacity which i would very much like to keep but have as of yet avoided the reported hassle of bringing to genius/mailing in only to be told “all is well/we don’t want your money. Any recent experiences with self pay?

Booked a battery replacement for my iPhone 11 for this coming Saturday, to get in at the lower price.

I got my iPhone 12 Pro Max battery replaced recently. It was at 84 %. They made me pay but replacing it was no issue

See the message below where you have the estimation of every iPhone component price. It definitely costs Apple less than 10$.

And the UK sees an increase of £30 to replace iPad batteries. So better get my old iPad Pro 10.5" battery replaced by the end of February since now I can still get it for £99 while from March onwards it will cost £129.
Apple will only replace an iPad battery if their diagnostic tests show that it needs to be replaced (this is because Apple replace the entire iPad, not just the battery, so they'll only do it if the battery actually does need replacing). I believe the iPad Mini is the only iPad where they will replace just the battery.

No it isn't. Especially if the need for a significant deposit is communicated beforehand. Nobody is going to take their iPhone, open it up, ditch the battery and then look to buy a new battery from Apple if they know that they need to return the old one. People are already buying 3rd party batteries and tossing the old ones in the trash. Apple can't prevent THAT from happening, but they have the ability to prevent that for their own batteries.

Again, this isn't difficult. It's a matter of whether or not there is the will/desire to allow this. If Apple was interested in consumer rights in this regard, they'd make it happen...

“Current Battery Service fee for iPhone 14 series are US$99, for iPhone 13 and older full screen iPhone are US$69, for iPhone with home button are US$49.

Effective March 1, 2023, Battery Service fee for iPhone 13 and older model will get a US$20 increase, meaning they will be increased to US$89 and US$69 respectively.

https://support.apple.com/iphone/repair/battery-replacement.”

Apple silently announced it in the New Year instead of in late 2022.
It’s still cheaper than buying a newer iPhone.

Remember when Apple was all about great customer experience? It is more and more about "how can we milk our customers even more". Sad. I hope people start reacting with closed wallets soon. I did! Still rocking my "old" 12 Pro Max

This will just push people to those inauthentic "phone repair" stores again ...
exactly what i'm doing. As lang as the 12 Pro works i'll be rocking it and if it doesn't i'm not bothered to by an older gen Phone with new battery

I think some people are forgetting the reality. Majority of 3rd party places charge $100+ for iPhone battery replacement service, while not providing any meaningful warranty, breaking the waterproofing seals and using a questionable battery to begin with. Getting battery replaced for either $49 to $69 (depending on the iPhone) and having the warranty for the battery and assurance that the phone is resealed is a great deal. Even if Apple prices go up by $20, the overall pricing will still be cheaper than 3rd party places.

Apple’s intention is to nudge people to either buy AppleCare or upgrade often. But yeah, what we will see is more counterfeits and fake components on the market, taking advantage of unsuspecting people trying to get reasonable cost for battery replacement.

Tim Cook must be having a hard time preparing next quarterly’s report.

In India, Apple refuses Battery replacement till it goes below 80%. This is another strategy to force people to buy new iPhones and test their impulses.

Looking forward to replacing my Dad's old iPhone 6s Battery and refurbing it for my Daughter for $50. So much cheaper than buying a used iPhone even..

They forgot the XS on the list

I used to budget to upgrade my phone every few years but stopped when iPhones hit over $1k. I’m still on an 6S+. I just keep a small Anker battery and top off when I need to. I put the money I saved from buying a new phone in stocks and made enough to buy a new phone. Ironic.
