Apple has partnered with Indian ride-sharing company Ola to make Apple Music available to customers who order a ride, reports The Los Angeles Times. Apple Music, along with services from Sony, Fynd, and Audio Compass, will be incorporated into a platform called Ola Play, allowing customers to control music, watch videos, read ebooks, and adjust in-car temperature, all from a tablet inside the car.

Apple Music will be one of the audio choices, letting customers choose which music to listen to on the car's audio system while on their journey. Ola, which holds 75 percent of the ride-sharing market in India, believes the platform will "completely transform" the ride experience.

According to a Brulte and Co. analyst that spoke to The Los Angeles Times, Apple's Ola deal, combined with Apple's stake in Chinese ride-hailing company Didi Chuxing, points towards deeper connected car ambitions.
"Apple invested $1 billion in [Chinese ride-hailing giant] Didi, so it has access to all their data. Now Apple will have access to Ola's Apple Music data," said Grayson Brulte, president of technology consulting firm Brulte and Co. "So you start to put the pieces together. I wouldn't be surprised to see Apple try to gather all the data in the food chain." [...]

Brulte said it wouldn't be surprising to see Apple shift from working on self-driving cars to working on the services and interfaces with which drivers and passengers interact. Think: The sleek and simple design of iOS, for cars.
With its own car development ambitions on hold, Apple is said to be working to develop autonomous driving software that could be incorporated into vehicles made by third-party companies. Such a system would undoubtedly be able to be deeply integrated with iOS devices, offering a heads-up display and other functionality.

Apple has been dabbling in the car market for several years with its CarPlay offering, which is built into many new 2016 and 2017 car models available today, and an autonomous driving system could be a natural evolution.

Speculation has suggested that Apple could use Didi Chuxing to test such software in the future, as it provides Apple with a huge fleet of cars to work with. Apple first invested $1 billion in Didi Chuxing in May of 2016 and now holds a seat on the company's board.

Ola Play will be available in Bangalore, Mumbai, and Delhi for Ola Select customers starting next week. It will expand to all Prime rides in three months time.

Stop saying the Apple Car project is on hold. We certainly don't know this for sure. And purely on a gut level I'd say it has never stopped. Developing any product is a bumpy ride. Developing a car certainly won't be an exception. Companies either change over time or they die and we know that even Steve Jobs seriously considered Apple build a car when he was alive thanks to insiders such as Tony Fadell spilling the beans. Ive not working on Apple hardware design. Car project on hold. I guess we know where Ive is when he's not making installations.

This is actually MUCH bigger news than that article has researched.

This concides with both Ola's and Uber's decisions with rides the the biggest marriage season of the year!

Uber Adds Indian Wedding Service as New Rules on Cash Kick In
Ola says pay later, ride now, launches post-paid service

so ... yeah this deal with Apple is more than just offering music to riders that can order now and pay later due to the huge Rupee low denominations crunch from their Prime Minister but also offering pleasant rides with Weddings.

You want to know just how big this season is for weddings?!

Lavish wedding for Indian politician’s daughter causes uproar: Gali Janardhan Reddy, Bramhani (father)

Gali Janardhana Reddy’s daughter, Brahmani, was thrown a five-day extravaganza which cost an estimated 5bn rupee (£59m), according to Indian media reports.

Many have criticised the cost and timing of the event, which began on November 12, as millions queued up outside banks across the country following Indian prime minister Narendra Modi’s crackdown on ‘black money’.

Kahara Kubai posted that the lavish ceremony was “insulting”.

Seesh!! How former BJP Minister Gali Janardhana Reddy had to stand in queue outside a bank to exchange Rs. 4,000 for his daughter's wedding.

Right now India is making a HUGE crack down on lost taxes and rapidly, neh insanely intensive move from a Cash society (paid daily by cash at your place of employment, rentals, construction crews etc) to a digital banking system.

You're acting like Apple had to do actual work to make this happen. They're providing the streaming music to a seatback device that Ola already developed. It's basically captive free advertising for Apple in India.

open it up like spotify. i should be able to use Apple Music wherever like on my PS4

This is Apple's last resort move when millions stop subscribing to their Music streaming service - which I still don't understand how to work it properly (been off iPhone for far too long: few more weeks)

This is sad. What the heck is happening in Cupertino?

Smells of Eddie Cue.

Eddie ... you'd think so but I recall the CEO showing up there this year, not Eddie. So it would seem like this move is not Eddie.

Either way just for 1 quarter would be nice to see a post and have all replies specific to that content not wining about computers and such for a music service deal, etc.

Apple still doesn't have the record label T series in India. T series owns the largest percentage of Bollywood songs and they are not on Apple Music. Part of the reason Apple Music is not as adopted in India. I personally might be ending the subscription.

Yep. Smart really promoting themselves to a market in which they are looking to grow.

Yes, ignore 1.3B people and instead focus on hardware for 25,000. Such a visionary you are. And some little company who makes $1B profit every ten days is dumb. Will you be CEO?

Watch this Steve Jobs interview about xerox. He says big companies (like Apple is now) fall into the trap of 'profits first' ... 'following the heard'.

You want Apple to do exactly what Steve Jobs said is the death of these kinds of companies:

Please wake up from your sleep. The Apple you are thinking about no longer exists.

Think again. You should watch this video as well. The Apple Puma1552 wants is the Apple that is good for us, and (in the long run) good for Apple as well.

yes because listening to some lousy song that isnt service proprietary during a cab ride is such a contribution to humanity. give me a break, i can hear virtually anything on apple music...not on apple music.
So when Apple can't secure content deals in TV you're all over them but when they do the same for cabs and possibly autonomous vehicles, you think it's trivial. If you're going to blindly hate on Apple when they don't directly benefit you, at least be consistent.

Oh so making deals isn't work and doesn't matter? Tell that to Eddie Cue and whining about Apple TV.
