Having read the book, I think this is very risky to Apple politically.

The GOP is portrayed as responsible for the original incident which caused the dystopia. And the guild of IT administrators/software engineers rule each silo.

No, but no.

It was actually a fringe fringe group, not the main party itself. Sort of like how the weather underground wasn’t the DNC.

Not a failure as such (though could have been better). It did quite well with audience figures but I think the post apocalyptic world of The Twelve and City of Mirrors would have been expensive to create (the Passage being relatively low budget).
It was ok. I just knew right when Fox picked up the rights it wouldn't do well. There's too much content in those three books, I just couldn't see it as a primetime weekly series, especially with Fox. They barely scratched the surface. My pipe dream, I'd love to see it done right with the same production quality of GoT.

I really liked Wool, and I am always up for more dystopian stories. Always a favorite type of setting for me.

Apple really nailing it on the adaptations of book series I loved, between this and Foundation.

Yeah actually I was just thinking how much I enjoyed the books… And that 10 episodes seems too short! Hoping they don’t rush the storyline too much…

Recent Star Trek series (Picard, Discovery) have felt incredibly rushed. It's as if, given fewer episodes, instead of telling a shorter more focused story one season and leaving more of the story for another season, some show-writers just try to cram a full season (20+ episode) of story into fewer episodes (and usually do a poor job of it.) IMHO if they do the Wool series at 10 episodes PER BOOK that would probably be fine. If they try to cram all three books into one season of 10 episodes there is no way that would work well.

Meanwhile, The Expanse's 10-episode seasons deliver nearly perfect story arcs. Especially the first season, which was just about perfect. The difference is not in the number of episodes, but in the quality of the writing.

Preach. Other than the ending one particular character got that had nothing to do with the books or even the show really, the latest season was pitch perfect. The only parts that dragged were those added for the show and needlessly expanded to give one particular character more screen time for reasons.
Other than those two small quibbles it was another masterpiece.

Apple has signed a straight to series order for "Wool," an upcoming dystopian drama that's based on Hugh Howey's book of the same name. The 10-episode series will star Rebecca Ferguson, known for "Mission Impossible," "The Girl on the Train," "Men in Black," and more.

"Wool" is set in the distant future where the planet has become toxic and unable to sustain life. People live in giant silos underground, subject to restrictive rules and regulations that they think are designed to keep them safe.

Ferguson will play Juliette, a mechanic who works in the lower depths of the silo. She's promoted to sheriff after the prior sheriff is kicked out of the silo, and in her new role, she finds hints of a sinister conspiracy.

There is no word yet on when "Wool" will premiere on Apple TV+, but the show is produced by AMC Studios with Graham Yost serving as showrunner.

Gave up on the Wool book, as the idea that the characters didn't have knowledge to make an elevator was just ridiculous.

Sounds interesting, hopefully its going to be real dystopian sci fi and not another SJW wool over our eyes.

As noted, in the Wool mythos, it was Republicans who wrecked the world. You can be sure that this element will be present; they won't be able to resist.

Have we read the same book?

The senator responsible for the incident is clearly a Democrat. It happens during the DNC presidential convention in Atlanta in 2051, and this senator is attending the convention.

Interestingly, the convention is about to nominate a woman for President, for the second time in history, and she will likely win for the first time in history. The book was written a couple of years before 2016, when Hillary was expected to be the nominee.

EDIT: Adding a short quote from the book:
‘The National Convention is going to be held in Atlanta.’ He wiped underneath his eyes, tried to make it look like weariness, like the strain of travel. ‘The DNC hasn’t announced it yet, but I heard from Mick before I got on the flight...

Exactly, that's an excellent example (and a great hard SciFi series). They go into each season treating it like a 10 episode season, not like a traditional 20-25 episode season crammed into 10. Makes all the difference.

This looks right up my alley. Looking forward! I just read Dark Matter by Blake Crouch which had elements of this theme. Looking forward.

TV Shows should be minimum 22 episodes per “season”. This 10-episode business is not even half a season a few short years ago.
I. SOOOOOOOOOOO. Much. Prefer. the short seasons. I do not plan on going back to series with 15+ episodes a season. I ain't got no time for that.

I don't think you can say less episodes are always better - LOST, Person of Interest, and Fringe - all three had long seasons and maybe there were one or two useless episodes - but each was a quality production (erm, maybe not the last few seasons of LOST... :D). I do agree the shorter seasons tend to be better - but with them, it often feels like just as a season is getting good it ends - on a cliffhanger usually - with many questions unanswered. I realize this is a technique used to generate interest, it often feels like a means to an end.

Also... while is true POI and Fringe had their "monster of a week episodes", they always seemed to weave them into the overall story arc that they felt connected/part of the series and not just "monster of the week".

As for Wool, really enjoyed the first book, haven't read the others but added them to my list.
The notable exceptions to the rule. I loved those three shows, but even those shows had filler I could have done without (besides Fringe).

Just based on the short plot summary that was provided in this short article, it seems like the plot is similar to that of Hunger Games....
Beyond the fact that they are both in a dystopian future they are pretty far apart. There's an old joke that all dystopian sci-fi is just 1984 rewritten, but the truth is a slightly deeper inspection is important. From the description how does the toxic world world fit into Hunger games? And where does it say anything about silos competing with each other?
