There are so many original science fiction novels and stories out there but instead we get reboots or retellings.
Less risk with reboots.

Godzilla and other reboots and live action remakes are of familar properties. Previous Godzilla releases did fairly well at the box office. Easy money.

Godzilla
Budget = $160,000,000
Worldwide Box Office receipts = $524,976,069

Kong: Skull Island
Budget = $185,000,000
Worldwide Box Office receipts = $566,652,812

Godzilla: King of the Monsters
Budget = $170,000,000
Worldwide Box Office receipts = $386,600,138

Godzilla vs. Kong
Budget = $160,000,000
Worldwide Box Office receipts = $467,863,133

Those #s aren't even factoring in disc sales.

Apple's hoping it will drive a jump in Apple TV+ sub #s

I don't care about these figures. Reboots and retellings are mostly boring. Most movies in theatres are barely interesting because it is often the same crap in different wrapping.

See, Foundation, Finch, Servant, Dickinson...just to name a few of something you say there isn't any of.
I saw Foundation. It was boring at the start. So much boring talk and actors trying to seem excited about math and algorithms is ridiculous. The last episodes were better.

Finch was good.

I did not see Servant or Dickinson.

I think the point is that the folks who finance the movies care. If you want to see something original, then go to Android

Edit: Sorry, mixing up my threads. If you want to see something original, then pay for it yourself.
Edit: No, that's not it. If you want to see something original, then go to [insert country here].

Edit: Ugh, I can't think of it. Maybe my comrades here on Macforums can help. What should people do if they're not satisfied with exactly they are given by Apple?

Go to hell?

Godzilla is going to fight the Android robot.
Should be an easy fight. Android Robot’s a literal pushover. No knees or elbows, round stumps instead of feet. Godzilla just needs to put it on its back, then watch as it flounders unable to get back up. Google really should have considered this when they were designing their war machine mascot.

Wow I could not be less excited.

C'mon Apple, go get The Expanse.
I'd also love for Apple to get Wheel Of Time out of Amazon's and that lackey Rafe Lee Judkins' hands. Judkins doesn't seem to understand the material, even tho Amazon seems to be funding it fairly well. I'm surprised Harriet and Sanderson let that go on, too.

Or maybe Apple has spoiled me now. ? After Foundation and Ted Lasso, I have even higher standards. TV+ is rather good.

That’s all nice and good, but what were the marketing & distribution costs for each of those worldwide?

Godzilla is a blockbuster IP that Apple needs, however only question I'm wondering is what is the budget for their VFX as this IP requires a lot of CG VFX as that is the whole point of the monster universe. That could be why not many have created a series of it before that I can remember as it's to costly. Most likely they would show the monsters near the tail end of the series last 2-3 episodes and the beginning mostly on the human factor I'm guessing.

Pretty fitting match, seeing how Apple these days is just like a Slow Lumbering Monster.... ;)

like all Apple TV shows, I’m guessing this will be a slow character study of Godzilla’s motivations and feature human character “struggling” with something.

That, and you won’t see Godzilla until the last episode.
No, you’ll see Godzilla in the first episode. It will be a whole character building episode for Godzilla with tons of backstory. Then they’ll kill it off, like Sam Neil, never to be seen again in any subsequent episodes for absolutely no reason.

I’m not salty…
