There are so many original science fiction novels and stories out there but instead we get reboots or retellings.

After the wretched mess they made of “Foundation”, I have to say Godzilla is about their speed.

“We can define ‘sci-fi’ as trashy material sometimes confused, by ignorant people, with S.F. Thus, Star Trek is SF, while Godzilla Meets Mothra is sci-fi.” — Isaac Asimov

Reboots and retellings come with a preinstalled fan base, so are more likely to be profitable and most of what Hollywood wants these days, unfortunately.

Godzilla is a blockbuster IP that Apple needs, however only question I'm wondering is what is the budget for their VFX as this IP requires a lot of CG VFX as that is the whole point of the monster universe. That could be why not many have created a series of it before that I can remember as it's to costly. Most likely they would show the monsters near the tail end of the series last 2-3 episodes and the beginning mostly on the human factor I'm guessing.
Oh please no. That sounds like "Invasion" which I gave up watching after episode 3 or 4. Barely made it to 4, too.

That’s all nice and good, but what were the marketing & distribution costs for each of those worldwide?
Enough profit to keep the franchise going. Compare that to Universal's attempts to reboot its classic monsters, which tripped at the starting line.

Hmmm how could Monsterverse turn out?!
The last set of Star Wars movies were also utter crap but then the Mandalorian happened. Things can always turn around. GvK wasn’t that bad though. You knew what you were watching that movie for and it delivered. King of Monsters was also really good in my opinion.

It’s hard to express how utterly vapid and empty this entire series of big budget movies were. The only hope is that perhaps the long form nature of TV will force more actual human character development. Fingers crossed.

Foundation is actually a retelling, of a very famous set of SF novels.
Sort of, it’s more like they took the novels as a “suggestion” and went sideways from there. Which in hindsight I realized they had to do. The novels were very intellectual, whereas the TV series is very visual.
