I have zero faith that they will make anything as wholesome as the originals. especially with Apple's grubby hands all over it.
1) I hope not. The originals were amazingly uninteresting and boring even when I was a child. Farthest possible thing from entertaining.
2) apple is known for being prudish and “wholesome.” What are you trying to insinuate?

Now, Family Circus, on the other hand...

Nice try but if you want to throw Billy under the bus, you gotta catch him first...

Remember when Tim Cook thought it would be young and hip to force a U2 album down everyone's throats? He should recuse himself on matters of entertainment based on that alone.

I still haven't listen to those songs, even though I see them in my library everyday.
Kind of scary that Apple can add songs to my phone without my permission.
One day they were just there.
What other content can be added without telling us?
Imagine slipping illegal photos into our photo albums, we'd never know.

I think one of the things that's getting lost is that Apple is going to be releasing it through their streaming site.....NOT creating an entirely new franchise based on Peanuts. These will still be the Peanut characters people recognize. Apple isn't redoing character designs. etc.

DHX & its subsidiary Peanuts Worldwide will be developing & producing it. Peanuts Worldwide isn't being mentioned much here, when they are going to be involved. Apple made a deal & I'm sure there are certain legal & creative guidelines that must be met. Theses characters have been around for over 50 years......they haven't simply been sold Apple to do whatever they'd want to.

It isn't as if Apple is taking complete control of the characters & doing a brand new version of it. This is still under Peanuts Worldwide, which has controlled all Peanut related branding since 2010.

Apple is releasing this...much like Netflix releases (or previously released) content like Marvel. Those were official Netflix series, but Marvel still developed & it was produced in association with Marvel.

Apple isn't coming out with it's "own" version of these characters......This is still under Peanuts Worldwide.

So the A series mobile silicon is not universally known as best in the business?

They don’t have the best neural engine?

They don’t have some of the best cameras and photo editing on the market?

Their designs don’t drive the entire industry?

FaceID isn’t the most secure and easiest to use facial recognition on the market?

AirPods aren’t the best, easiest to use, truly wireless headphones on the market for daily use?

ApplePay...the fastest, most secure, and anonymous form of payment possible is just like all the others?

Watch 4 with cellular and ECG is just commonplace in the market?

I like how people don’t notice or care for the innovation that exists, so they say it doesn’t. Apple is destroying the competition in so many categories, it’s almost unfair.

Apple has:
The best wearables in general
The best watch
The best silicon
The best neural engine..5T operations per second
The best mobile payment system
The best facial recondition
The best security
The best support
The best ecosystem
The best OS
Among the best screens, cameras, and materials used in the industry.

They aren’t even just ahead in software now. They are ahead in hardware too.

And yet they thought Peanuts is a good show to resuscitate on a new service in an already overcrowded and full of quality market. Clearly somebody on the Apple executive team doesn't belong.

So Peanuts characters negates everything I listed?

They are building a library. Peanuts has wide reaching markets and it’s a side project for Apple anyway. Literally means nothing in relation to earnings, strategy, or the health of the company.

You guys are all so terrible at thinking about the big picture because you get stuck on such minor nonsense to shape your narrative.

$60B in profit...the end.

Schultz was a humble Christian man. I suspect what is going to happen to his creation will be appalling. And not just to Mr Schultz.

Yep. I can remember when Peanuts could appeal to the vast majority of those across the culture. I grew up in inner-city Indianapolis and had friends of every stripe. We all knew Charlie Brown. There were no cries of racism and no anger over the message of the Christmas story.

Now I’m guessing that we will start seeing Schultz’s creation being used to push all kinds of ‘social justice’ issues which will ruin whatever they have planned. Oddly enough, I just purchased the Charlie Brown’s Christmas special to show to the kids and teens at our orphanage in Belize this week while I’m down here.

That wasn’t Peanuts; that was Sesame Street!

I've watched the Christmas special yearly since I was a kid, I'm not religious, and I don't know anyone who is offended by the special.

Many people lost their minds and some newspapers actually pulled Peanuts when Schultz included Franklin as a character and had the other characters treat him as an equal. Especially galling to them was him being in the same school and class. Schultz knew exactly what was he was doing, and was aware of the outrage. He had his own way of pushing social justice and political issues, like feminism, right under people's noses without them realizing.

Not necessarily.....I think everyone assumes the worst. Let's at least see the series first. Sometimes we are quick to judge before we see the final product. The series is being released to Apple. It could've also been on Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime.....Apple is the streaming site exclusively hosting the show.

They don't own the Peanut characters to do whatever they want to with them.

This is true, there was fallout & controversy when he was introduced (I'm sure MANY people saw that as pushing a social issues).

However, there was also controversy with the Peanuts Christmas special. The network at advertisers initially didn't want Linus speech from Luke 2: 8-14 included in the special.

Not having that character anymore. There will be Tim Cook instead

They better continue to use Vince Guaraldi's music.
The music will be suggested by Siri, so, it will probably scored by Snoop Dog.
“all my b*tches have to be vicious, suck my d*ck till it shines like dishes” as a sample of some real quality lyrics to some fine music :)
At least, please, ffs, keep the original soundtrack

Agreed, he couldn't be any lamer if he tried.

Why? It's just a made-up cartoon character quoting form a made-up cartoon book.

Because it hadn't been done before. Religious elements in an animated special??? There's no way that would work.....and that wasn't the only issue execs & advertisers had a problem with.

They all didn't think jazz belonged in animated special for kids. (And now Vince Gauraldi"s theme is now synonymous with this special)

They didn't like the fact that the story moved slowed & there was no action.

They didn't like the fact that the kids voices & readings weren't polished (Regular children were used instead of adult voice actors)

CBS execs saw the final product & thought it wouldn't never be successful......however critics......and more importantly, audiences embraced it & 50 years later, it' still airing (and pulling in decent ratings)

For the second part, perhaps for someone who is agnostic, they may see it as a "made up cartoon book", but for millions of people around the world, that book is an important part of their faith......so there are plenty of people who love that the scene was included. I'm a Christian & I for one am glad that Schultz & team didn't waver & included what has pretty much become such a big part of its legacy.

As we know (especially now) people get offended easily & while we may joke (or become even become annoyed) about how PC things are becoming.....the surprising longevity of this special is a tiny example of what happens if you just let the the actual consumer / public decide what they want.

If people don't like it, great! If they do like it, great! We all have that freedom to decide what works for us. Hopefully people don't get offended, but even if they do.....I'm sure Apple is trying to diversify their content to appeal to the widest audience possible (a la Netflix), so this series won't make or break them.

Well, some people are offended by Lucy's rampant bullying. There's also Peppermint Patty's lesbian relationship with Marcie.

Yes, this is a joke.

Yeah, it's a joke. A poor one. This is not directed at you, but those who started the joke. First, why is a lesbian relationship a joke? And second, anyone who has read the strip knows Marcie had a crush on Charlie Brown.

Lol oh yes lots of social justice!! Hey Hollywood, maybe you can think of great edgy stuff to help our grade schoolers become socially aware, like have Charlie Brown and Franklin kiss, and Snoopy and Marcie can have an interspecies relationship!
