I have a bad feeling they'll ruin it. Like Netflix did with Anne of Green Gables.

Well, hopefully they'll seat some kids near Franklin.

In one of the bigger deals for Apple's upcoming streaming TV service, Variety reports today that the Cupertino company has made a deal with DHX Media to produce all-new "Peanuts" content that will be exclusive to Apple.

Under the deal, DHX and its subsidiary Peanuts Worldwide will develop and produce the original series, specials, and shorts, while Apple will release it on its streaming service. One such project will be a Peanuts short featuring astronaut Snoopy that will be themed around STEM education, which Apple has long supported.

It's unclear what else will be coming to Apple's service from the Peanuts characters, and the report makes no mention of Apple gaining the rights to existing Peanuts content. The franchise dates back to 1950, when Charles M. Schulz created the Peanuts comic strip, which has now grown into a larger media franchise of TV specials, feature films, short films, merchandise, and more.

News of content acquired by Apple for its streaming service has been increasing lately, and in the past few weeks we've heard about new cast members for shows from M. Night Shyamalan, a new series starring Jennifer Garner, and Apple's interest in a violent drama show starring Richard Gere. Previous rumors suggested Apple's TV service would launch around March 2019, but now Variety reports that the debut will be sometime in the second half of 2019.

As a direct descendant of Charles Schulz and as a matter of opinion, thus not speaking on record or in any official behalf I can say that I am excited for this new content. Apple did not purchases the rights to Peanuts. They have no power to “ruin” the original vision, this is obvious in the article headline. Also, I can say that at least half of everything posted in this forum is false. This is a micro-percentage of everything Peanuts Worldwide is involved in. Apple may or may not be successful in their content business but that doesn’t change the outcome of Peanuts. Cartoon Network already airs Peanuts content. Blue Sky was involved in the latest movie. Apple will simply be involved in new shows, it’s really that simple. Charles Schulz’s wishes are kept very close to the vest in the family and those with controlling power. These wishes have been and are currently valued and honored. I am also curious who at Apple looked at Peanuts and desired to have it in their content offering, out of pure curiosity. As a MacRumors reader for a decade I just had to offer my excitement!

And yes, I too hope to see Peanuts Watch Faces ;)

Why is this in PRSI? Anyway, I don’t think anyone asked for this, lol

I asked for it, but am under no illusions that apple did it specifically to make me happy.

I’m glad to see the property living on by updating from early 1960s culture to one slightly more relevant to kids today.

Streaming is now the new cable TV.

Something no consumers ever wanted.

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Also Apple’s choice of programming is terrible. Peanuts was only good because of snoopy. All the other characters were abysmal but not in a funny Seinfeld way.

Thank you for taking the time to post and clear up some of the confusion.

If you’ve been following macrumors and the comment section for a decade, you know they are never a reliable source of information, so your post is a welcome exception.

You caught macrumors on a good day if only half of the Apple-related information in the comments is false.

I know everyone is trying to make a buck, but I have lost patience with things that are "exclusive" to a platform when there is not technological reason.

LOL. That's the essence of video streaming. Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Apple, CBS, etc., all focus on exclusive content. What would be the point of Apple developing developing original content if they allowed the other streaming services to distribute it? None, of course.

I thought this show created racial division and was not the platform apple wanted to promote?

Sarcasm we hope.

So woke.

Tim Cook has no clue what he is doing. So much money wasted on random **** while all his main business lines are going nowhere.

"No idea what he's doing." How do you write that with a straight face? Cook may not be the most exciting personality, but the massive growth in revenue (most in the world ever), massive growth in company value, and leading in just about every category it has entered under him (Apple Watch, wireless headphones both number 1 in the world, Apple Music #2 in the entire world, or expanded under him, e/g/., Apple Retail by far the most revenue per square foot in the entire world, Apple Pay, iPhone capturing over 90% of the entire industry profits, etc.), earns your comment the silly award for the week.

I'd like to explicitly tell them not to. The Peanuts gang are the Mascots at our local amusement park. It really is the saddest thing ever.

Schulz had no qualms about using his creation for marketing products. His perspective fell between Watterson and Davis where Watterson saw funnies as art and Davis saw it as an ad for merchandise Schulz saw it as a medium to reach people. I don't think Schulz was afraid of controversy because he was genuine. If people didn't like what he said they wouldn't have liked it regardless of whose voice it was. Because of that he could get religious, or political, or sentimental and it felt familiar - even if you disagreed with him. And people did. I never liked Snoopy selling life insurance, but somehow it also never felt forced.

Ugh. Even when I was a kid I found peanuts insufferable.

What planet are you from?! I don't think I get you.

I loved Peanuts ... though they never really explained pig-pen the dirty kid's situation. Actually some of them never actually were shown leaving home to get to school or getting home from school. That teachers mumble was PERFECT lol.
