The post was edited as it was directed to countries ;) A lot of the comments came from before the edit. Now it is languages. Huge difference.

thanks for the notice that the macrumors article was revised.
it speaks poorly of macrumors that there is no mention that the article was revised. there is no "Updated" indication. and there is no "Correction" wording at the bottom.

the newly revised article now only mentions languages.

do you (or other posters) know if Apple Account ID, or, Region makes any difference (except for the countries within the EU) ?
for example, if your Apple Account ID is set to Canada, and your region is set to Canada, as long as you set your system language to English (USA) then it you will be able to use AI services?

Me and other 360’000 Swiss speaking Italian will be happy for the addition of Italian. We are not in the EU so we will be able to use it in Italian too (we already can in US English). Admittedly not a huge market… but yeah, for once.

I think we’ll see cows flying before that happens. Think Dublin for example, a super rich international city, Apple European HQ located in the country, and still no Apple stores. Actually the only Apple Store on the island is in Belfast, but that is in the UK not in the Republic of Ireland.
I would love to see an Apple Store in Lisbon don’t get me wrong, but I doubt there’s enough market to justify them opening one over there.
that is amazingly disappointing. no apple store in Dublin.
especially because apple abused the heck out of EU tax laws for over a decade (but was finally caught) using creative accounting loopholes within Irish law.

contrast this with india.
india has long long had protective policies unless you manufacture in india.
last year (maybe 1.5 years ago) india got really greedy and told apple it also needed to open retail istore(s) in india, or else...
apple kowtow-ed. india has already two stores.

But you’re talking about 1.4 billion people vs 5.1 million, so of course if India required them, they would have to open an Apple Store eventually - but it’s a 1.4 billion people market. And having 2 on a country that size is really nothing.
For curiosity London alone has around 15 million people and 10 Apple Stores, and I am sure there’s still space for more as the market here is really big for Apple products, and unfortunately the same can’t be said for Ireland or Portugal for example.

I've tried in during the beta. Got a UK AppleID, and also a Netherlands AppleID. I set my device to USA region, language to English. Siri voice to USA (gosh I hate those voices). But then I adapted my units etc to Netherlands format. And yes I was able to activate the intelligence features. I'm good with that actually as I think in English anyway and hate having the UI in dutch.

Siri voice is independent from the region setting. You can use any English accent for Siri regardless of which English speaking region you select.

Apple has never cared much to make iOS fully supported in medium-sized and smaller countries, even the ones with millions of iPhone owners, and consumers who own several many Apple products.

This was true long before the EU started regulating big tech and implementing the DMA.

-Why would Apple spend more than the bare minimum in r&d for iOS users in smaller countries when those consumers still buy and use Apple products about as much as those in bigger countries that get full support?

A country being in or outside the EU or any other region means nothing to Apple when considering who gets AI.

It all comes down to money and the countries with the largest number of citizens and iOS users will always come first in line as supporting those countries will always reach more users.

South Korea is a pretty small country (50-60 millions habitants) yet Apple Intelligence will come next year with full support.

Strange. I was able to use British English as the voice just fine while setting the language as US English.
I'll try it again, maybe I misunderstood or something changed during the betas. Especially during navigation, I get angry with those voices for some reason 🤣. Not a calming butler like effect at all.

Yeah well, I highly doubt Zaragoza has a big market, now has it? Why Zaragoza and not Lisbon? the west of the peninsula doesn't have any store at all, it needs it. I would love that too, tbh.
