I am quite upset, being from a smaller country (Czech Republic). OpenAI / ChatGPT communicates in Czech language but Apple Intelligence has a restricted list of languages??? The iPhone 16 upgrade will be quite useless for many countries and nations.
Indeed, extremely poorly written. It makes no sense.
Yeah, always fault of laws and regulations. Why don’t we get rid of them all and let mega companies like Apple or Google decide what’s right and good? I am sure it would be an incredible experience.
The feature is not geo locked. I am in Germany and Apple Intelligence works just fine since I have always had an US Apple Account. As long as your account isn't from a country within the EU or China, it should be working fine as soon as your language is supportedThis is super confusing to me. What happens if I am in a country where it’s not supported, but I want to use AI in plain old English (don’t care which version)?
Meanwhile Google just launched the latest Pixel in all of the EU...guess what is not missing?Or the EU could regulate sensibly like other liberal countries such as New Zealand, Australia and the UK, all of which have Apple Intelligence (and also get services like Threads from day 1).
Thank you for the answer. I feel illuminated. The text of the DMA says if someone (e.g., Google, Meta) asks Apple for access to the APIs that Apple uses to make Apple AI function, it has to give that access (see text below). Given the level of access Apple needs to make that feature work (access to calendar, email, messages, etc.), it's not a huge shock that Apple isn't willing to release it others.
Ironically the likelihood is that if the UK (probably Apples 3rd biggest market) didn't "Brexit" then Apple would almost certainly have negotiated a deal with the EU despite the DMA.Ah the elusive Brexit benefit
Apple exposes those API's for Apple Intelligence, they are on the developer portal you can integrate them in your own apps and make do with it what you want 🤷♂️ What you can't do (yet!? as I seem to have heard something about it in the keynot) is integrate your own AI with those API's. And that is where there would be some grey area as users may expose a lot of private data unknowingly to some apps.
It’s definitely red.The DMA is a red herring in this context.
but it will be available on your Mac![]()
Apple has never cared much to make iOS fully supported in medium-sized and smaller countries, even the ones with millions of iPhone owners, and consumers who own several many Apple products. What about Norway? We are not in the EU, so we should be prioritized even if we're a small country
Siri only understands Russian so far, no other slavic language so far. Looks like Finnish is easier 😁Apple Intelligence is also working in Slovenia if you have macOS 15.1 Beta 4 (24B5046f) installed. As announced, for English (US) language only (My Apple account is Slovenian). However, since this year we finally received official support for the Slovenian language, Apple Intelligence is worthless without this support. The same goes for the now old friend Siri, which still doesn't understand the Slovenian language.
That's because of AI law which is more related to the copyright and they are serious about it. They asked all companies to show what they used to train AI and allow users to remove their own data from AI based on the copyright.Yeah, always fault of laws and regulations. Why don’t we get rid of them all and let mega companies like Apple or Google decide what’s right and good? I am sure it would be an incredible experience.
I think that what counts at Apple is the influence and size of the country, rather than the difficulty of the language 😁. German is known to be very challenging for UI because it has very long names and they are among the first to be able to use certain services, like Apple Fitness+ for example.Siri only understands Russian so far, no other slavic language so far. Looks like Finnish is easier 😁
how did you activate apple intelligence in slovakia? it doesn’t work for me in czechia even when i set the region on my M1 ipad to USWell, i’ve been testing Apple Intelligence on my devices and my native language is Slovak and on numerous occasions I was able to trigger the Summarization feature in Mail app for an email that was written in the Slovak language.
The summary itself was written in English ofc, but the content was correct, so the Apple LLM that processes the summarization on device is able to understand Slovak (and I assume other languages).
It's just the way LLMs work. It’s not especially limited to a certain language.
The only roadblock is the fine tuning and I would love Apple to give these slavic languages some love after 13 years without any support in Siri 1.0 😉
Not in Lisbon? And Portugal still doesn’t have an Apple Store 😳
Optimist 😜Most likely:
Otherise probably with France in 2025
- Canada (December 2024)
At worse.....even later. But my money is on Dec 2024
You need to change the Media & Purchases to a UK, or US account If you have one.how did you activate apple intelligence in slovakia? it doesn’t work for me in czechia even when i set the region on my M1 ipad to US
macOS 15.1 only or use US Apple account if you also wan't to make it work on iPhone, iPad.how did you activate apple intelligence in slovakia? it doesn’t work for me in czechia even when i set the region on my M1 ipad to US
Use ChatGPT or others to do the same. This is super confusing to me. What happens if I am in a country where it’s not supported, but I want to use AI in plain old English (don’t care which version)?
Apple Intelligence will start rolling out to the public in U.S. English only when iOS 18.1 is released in October, but additional languages will be added over the next year. The features are compatible with any iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 model.

Like Ireland for example?!?anyone if there is a way to use Apple Intelligence features from other countries not on this list?
Really? I hadn’t realised this. I thought Apple Intelligence wasn’t on either in EU (I live in Ireland)but it will be available on your Mac![]()
