ITT many people who think of themselves as "pro-capitalist" but have zero understanding of what that means once it's necessary to ask how to maintain existing capitalist markets when a handful of private firms have grown to have a monopoly on ownership and management of market entry.

Apple Intelligence meant that the product lineup and its features became ever more fragmented. The it just works is no longer relevant, as not only does it not work anymore. But pieces are missing 🤔😬😜
As if Apple still can produce “it just works” products today, which I highly doubt. There will be more fragmentation on features available between major markets. For example: eventually China’s iPhone will not be able to navigate anything outside of China where their own GPS counterpart has no access.

Really stupid move by Apple. I can already see the next Samsung Ads, boasting how they have Ai and Apple doesn't here in the EU.

I don't believe the DMA has anything to do with it. This is just Apple execs trying to stick it to the Commission. But I think it's an own goal.

Hopefully everyone remembers this is all Apple’s fault.
They are choosing this course of action

You think Apple doesn't' know that? Again - Apple is a publicly traded company. They are not doing anything out of spite. You may disagree with their reasoning, but I assure you they have significant privacy and security concerns around releasing these features in the EU given the text of the DMA I quoted above.

In the short term, it won't matter so much I think. People have other things to worry about. And most iPhone users in Europe don't even have a 15 Pro and would not get the Ai features anyways.

I don’t think so. Over regulation comes with a price. The big devs are set to capitalize on this at the expense of consumers.

France their largest company wants to leave the EU and the French government is begging them not to move to the USA.

Let the people celebrate thinking they are winning, soon the EU will be left behind with the way things are going.

It’s Kind of like Sports

Rules change or are tweaked from time to time and everybody has to play by them and how each individual team responds is up to them.

Spitting in the face of the referee, however, rarely yields the result a team is looking for

Due to the regulatory uncertainties brought about by the Digital Markets Act, we do not believe that we will be able to roll out three of these [new] features -- iPhone Mirroring, SharePlay Screen Sharing enhancements, and Apple Intelligence -- to our EU users this year.

This assumes Apple will actually be ready to roll out this unicorn to any market “this year”.

It’s sad. But also not really: AI is English only for the foreseeable future, and for the vast majority of EU citizens, English is not their first language.
Yes, so what? Most Europeans do speak English. My Apple devices run their iOSs / macOS in English, simply because distribution, software availability and general support are best by far in English.
That said, I couldn’t care less about those AI “features” (and their exclusion from the EU market).

They have shown many times already, they do act out of spite in regard to this regulation. Think about the Progressive Web App move some time ago.

Anyway, I haven't read the whole thread. Would you be so kind to link to your DMA quote?
