Then it would be market share impacting EU.And yet, Microsoft Windows is regulated under the DMA.
I would say Windows is even more open than macOS.

The difference here is a company is free to create red tape, because of the nature of business. If another company makes it simpler, then they will take market share from them. But it’s totally fine when the red tape is issued by Apple, right? I’ve had to navigate more red tape distributing ONE single app on the app store than the total amount of government red tape I’ve faced since I was born.
Funny how you’re ok with Apple’s red tape, not ok with EU removing that red tape, whilst also complaining about red tape.
Yeah while I appreciate what the EU is trying to do at least on paper whoever is drafting these rules is at best incompetent and at worst ignorant of how technology works
1) The EU are telling you what you can and can't do with your device. It is really weird, how many people are happy with the fact that a company can tell you what you can do with a device you bought and now own.
Not every member state has the same laws regarding encryption. This may mean that Apple cannot roll out their private cloud e2ee service in the EU.That depends how deeply integrated Apple Intelligence will be with the OS, doesn't it?
The DMA doesn't specify that whole OS components have to be interchangeable with alternatives, otherwise, they would've said something about Siri already.
This feels like Apple is holding out because the EU was mean to them. Either that, or this is a more preferable excuse than "new Siri doesn't speak French"
Because "android" isn't proprietary to Samsung, HTC etc, etc. Windows isn't proprietary to Dell, HP, Lenovo etc.I dont know how iphone screen miroring affects DMA? This feature is awailable on android phones for a while in EU without any problems with DMA. It is between my computer and my phone. WTF Apple????
Over-regulation will always lead to slower product releases.
Doesn't matter. Data aggregation is prohibited expressly by the DMA.This shouldn't be much of an issue, because when the data is handled on the device and you get a prompt asking for the data Siri/Apple Intelengence may use it should be fine. And this should be standard for a privacy focused company, wouldn't it?
I think I asked you earlier today for an example of what you actually consider “innovation” these days?I don’t know how Apple could go any slower
They haven’t released anything successfully innovative and of substance in years
All they do is rent seek and raise prices
Why is it funny? Altstore PAL has two apps. All the others are also similar. Even otherwise, logically speaking, they depend on their reputation because once they get a bad reputation, they will cease to exist. Nobody will go there. They are not going to get a free pass like Apple even when their Appstore is better than Apple'sthis is super funny.
Even if Apple were deemed a monopoly, being a monopoly isn't illegalFirst point...we're talking EU here, where Apple has roughly 25% marketshare. Apple is not a monopoly.
Second point...the DOJ is going to lose this case, precisely because due to precedence, Apple, with 60% marketshare in the US, won't be deemed to be a monopoly.
I’m getting that vibe too.It seems like a reoccurring theme of the EU's competition rules are "You can't do anything with your product that might make someone prefer it over a competitors product"
Sorry to be that person, but comparing market cap to revenue (GDP of an economy) is a bit misleading.
I expect neither. Apple customers in the EU will continue to purchase Apple products because most of the core functionality of the product remains intact. A missing feature here and there won’t make much of a difference. It hasn’t so far and I don’t see the lack of Apple Intelligence (temporarily) challenging that trend.Hm interesting. Apple is starting to punish its EU customers over DMA rulings so it can keep extracting the 30% app tax. Lets see what will crumble first, EU marketshare or EU legislators
This was bound to happen because different countries/blocs want to exert control over how the product works within their borders and not everyone has the same requirements.Apple Intelligence meant that the product lineup and its features became ever more fragmented. The it just works is no longer relevant, as not only does it not work anymore. But pieces are missing 🤔😬😜
