Well complaining about something that might happen is idiotic. And nothing is being foisted on anyone; there’s a toggle switch to turn Apple Intelligence off. It would be one thing if Apple forced everyone who used HomeKit Secure Video to pay for this new AI features whether they want it or not, but that’s not the case.

Apple doesn’t make anyone pay for anything after they buy an Apple product. They used to charge for OS upgrades; if you wanted any new features, you had to pay for it.

Spot on. What I find interesting is so many people being perpetually unhappy with Apple every day of the year over many years. And not being able to exercise their agency seeking out better tech products. That's really sad.

If I was that unhappy with a tech supplier I'd drop them stat. And go with a competitor that offers better tech products.

I have contemplated getting into cloud storage for offsite backups. I am currently using an external drive that I leave at another location. I still prefer the buy a drive once and use it as much as I want solution. Cloud storage is a continuous expense.

On the other hand, Apple is a trustworthy, privacy-focused company that is not a fly-by-night outfit, and I do respect that Apple finally gave us end-to-end encryption. The other company I considered is Mega. https://mega.nz/pro. They offer better deals. The problem is figuring out who owns Mega.nz is difficult.

What I find interesting is why you care about people who have differing opinions other than yourself. Maybe you need a break from the forums if people bashing Apple bothers you so much.

I really don't care what others do. And it hardly bothers me - that would be a waste of time.

It's more about being fascinated that so many people are very unhappy with Apple and their products over so many years, and not being able to exercise their agency seeking out better tech products from other companies and moving forward. It's almost as if they enjoy being perpetually unhappy.

I also frequent two other Apple/tech forums. What I described above just doesn't happen.

Apple used to be the best in the game and now it's all about being mediocre at this point. The software is a complete dumpster dive and it's like they don't give two ***** about customer satisfaction anymore. It's all about cutting corners and making their margins.

just like yourself right now.. can't accept other opinions lol

Of course I accept them. I'm just wondering why people who dislike Apple and their products so much, going back many years, choose to stick with them rather than exercise their agency and purchase superior products from other companies.

If I disliked Apple and its products, I'd drop them instantly and go with much better tech products from other companies.

Meh. I already have cameras that can detect people, animals, and packages (but packages are so-so). This is a complete non-feature for me as there’s no way I’m going to reconfigure everything to conform to the cruddy HomeKit cameras.

Edit — I already subscribe to the 2TB level and so there wouldn’t be any extra cost for me.

All these folks so upset that everything in the world isn't free. Can't understand that things that require constant AI usage cost companies money and therefore they can't provide them for free.

How dare they not give me everything at no cost at all!
Apple AI was advertised as on device.

I don’t see the issue. Other companies throw in AI left and right without thinking about making the features profitable or ebreak even. While they cost a lot of money and resources to operate.

And this feature requires multiple cameras, only possible in the higher iCloud plans anyway.

Please paywall all AI features across the board, and use that to subsidise everything else for people who never cared! If it’s so great, charge people who want it and give the rest of us normal RAM and SSD pricing again!
If it’s such a highly-sought after technology this should be easy.
Or … maybe it’s not actually as popular or desired by the average user as they want us to believe it is? Idk.

What bugs me about subscriptions (and I'm sure I'm not alone here) is that the price you pay has no correlation to how much you use it.

I used to pay for YouTube Music, but it was only something I may have used for a few hours over the weekend.
But I have to pay the exact same amount that someone does who is listening to it for hours and hours every single day of the week.

That would be like you paying a set Gas/Petrol charge irrespective of how far you drive.

How about we have different tiers of pricing dependent on usage, or even a "Pay as you go" where you get charged a few cents/pennies for your usage.

I don't mind paying a bit for something I use a little.
But I'm not going to pay a large payment every month for my own very minimal usage
