I’m in the UK which I assume Apple realises is no longer in the EU. Finally a benefit to Brexit !

I’ve been running the 18 dev beta up until now. Given this news is there any downside to now installing 18.1? I haven’t been following whether apart from AI there are any other differences in the builds.

Tim finally does one right thing.
Realising that Apple is dead without AI?

Primarily, it’s the younger generation, especially those who post a lot, who will drive technology trends. Without strong AI integration, Apple users will fall behind Android/Google users.

I don’t understand where Apple is heading. It needs to change its business model, moving away from the highway robbery in the App Store, but it refuses to do so. Apple also needs to enhance its hardware by adding more RAM and improve its software by integrating more AI features.

The software could use a refresh as well.

All of this is possible, but I doubt that Tim Cook and Phil Schiller are the right people to lead Apple into the future.

I have followed for the umpteenth time all the steps, and still not working. Maybe is because I'm located in Barcelona, Spain... and you know that saying, Spain is different! Geez! I curse the bureaucrats of the European Union, that besides f*** me up with taxes, keep me in the blind of the tech edge.

The statement that you should have a US icloud account is not correct, as long as it is not European. I have a Turkish one and it works.

Is it still not possible to update from 18 to 18.1? I’d like to give this a shot.
You need an iPhone 15 Pro (Max) and a free developer account to install 18.1. This time around the 2 betas are synced up in terms of changes (e.g. 18b8 you can go from 18.1b3).

Hi, thanks I’ve done all that but still no sign of apple intelligence in the system settings. 🤷🏻‍♂️
You should see Apple intelligence in setting even if it is turned off it shouldbe there. I’m am uk and have it working find on my iPad, maybe a hard reboot might fix it are you sure you are on 18.1

OpenAI can roll out their service world wide without any issues while Apple, the most valuable company in the world has to region lock their „Intelligence“ features.

Embarrassing.
ChatGPT is not available in all countries. And if you try to use ChatGPT in unsupported countries, OpenAI will block or suspend your account.

How do I use ChatGPT if I am not located in the supported countries?

Accessing or offering access to ChatGPT or the OpenAI API from an unsupported country may result in your account being blocked or suspended.

Would Apple suspend the accounts of those trying to access Apple Intelligence in unsupported countries? I don't believe Apple will go to those lengths.

I know right! Who would have thought that a BETA release of software would not have all features available in all regions during BETA testing. This is a disgrace and Apple should terminate all BETA employees for SIGMA employees who can release perfect BETA software in all regions from the get go.

For me, it keeps saying that is not available for my region for the iPad. It works perfectly on my Mac Studio M1 Max but in the M1 iPad Pro it was working until last week when it changed to this message. I have all set to US ( region, language, typing,... ) just like in the Mac Studio. But,... still no luck. Any other user from the EU with the same problem?

The only unsupported countries are China, Cuba, Belarus, North Korea, Syria and Venezuela though I don’t think your argument is a good one to be honest.

I believe it doesn't work in the EU unless you are signed into a US App Store account.

Nop, if that would be the case, I wouldn't be able to access with my Mac Studio. And it has been working previously on my iPad until last week, before the latest 18.1 beta.

I've been using 18.1 for a while now and don't see the big deal in Apple "intelligence". Maybe I'm missing something.

Siri has rainbows now, though. That's nice.

I have an 14PM. Is Apple Intelligence in 18.1 even that useful? Personally, I have ChatGPT voice on shortcut from the lock screen, and I'm pretty satisfied. I don't need to rewrite work on my iphone and can do this using chatgpt on desktop, so.... honest opinions?

You need an US account for the iPhone in the EU, but not for the iPad. For the iPad you can disable location services and set your Access Point to US.
Can you explain more?
What should I do on my iPad to activate it?

I hope they’ll fine them FOR geofencing.
At some point Apple might decide to pull out of Europe. Their marketshare there is not that important. The hater crowd alleges no one uses iPhones in the EU anyway. It’s all Huawei, Samsung, anything but Apple. Would the EU then fine Apple for leaving. How would that work if you don’t do business in the EU anymore?
