Was anyone on preparing? On Mac for AI?
I just installed it on parallels so idk if this is normal

And it appears to be off by default. That should put the minds of the "ermagerd the vax connects to mah 5g" crowd at ease.
For me it's just not wanting to devote battery and CPU to something I'm not likely to use much.

Guess we'll see soon how much it affects performance and battery.

I'm betting Grammarly will regret removing free access for non-profits. I already uninstalled it to try out AI.

They aren’t even bringing it to the UK straight away. The US takes our language, misspell a few words and then assume because of this we won’t be able to understand them and so cannot release it here… Just as a heads up but sticking a Z in words which should have an S isn’t going to confuse us ;)
You know some people will see colors when they recognize all the misspellings, and the rage will send them straight to the hospital.

I can confirm that Apple Intelligence can be enabled outside the US. I’m located in Australia, and I’ve set my region, device language, and Siri language to US English. After selecting the menu item, joining the waitlist, and confirming the settings, I successfully enabled Apple Intelligence on my device, which allowed me to access 40 miles of driving range.

(I rewrote this with Apple Intelligence. No idea why it mentioned driving range, but left it because science 😂)

Australia here. As per others, changing region and language worked.
PSA, you can keep the region US and change the date/temp etc back to metric

Have to have your region set to US and Siri set to American. Anyone from a country other than the US changed your region settings to get this?

That logic is bizarre and quite ridiculous. They know about the bugs (acknowledged in feedback app for “a future OS release”) and there are no workarounds so why do they need to make a wider group of testers suffer them?
Right. You must have developed and tested lots of software I think. You think you can just ‘take the bugs out’ if you know about them?
Yup, bizarre. 😏

Hi, I’m in France but I’ve long had my Siri language set to English US. I set then reset Region to US and language yo English US and no AI. Says does it work in my region. Any idea what I could’ve done differently than you?
It should be using the same logic for determining if you are in Europe to pester you about alternative browsers or enable alternative app marketplaces to be installed to block AI from being downloaded/enabled. Does your phone think it is in the EU otherwise?

I'm not going near these betas yet, but this is the version I'm waiting for. Looking forward to hearing about real-world feedback on Apple Intelligence.

I'm a paid ChatGPT and ClaudeAI user, so this stuff is exciting to me. Microsoft's CoPilot has been a disappointment, so let's hope Apple does a better job.

Someone said the AI phone record feature works great. That will be nice, as the 3rd party phone record apps don't work that good.

It is suppose to be all "on device" so what is the wait for?
Two waits - one is to limit load on the infrastructure requests 'escalate' to, the other is to download the model data locally and to install it.

Based on previous M.R. article, more people are using WhatsApp now, with that you have meta AI. Yesterday I saw an ad I didn't understand so I asked meta A.I., " why do lesbians need condoms? And it replied
LOL! I hope you asked it to elaborate how that helps.

Now we see why Apple isn't trying to build comprehensive world models - because its a hard/unsolved problem that gives results that could make them look bad.

If someone asks Siri "Can I use a belt sander to save money on corrective laser eye surgery" they'll happily let OpenAI field that request.

Well I’m in, and got Notification to join, wonder if I lose it if I change back to uk ?
The base model is built/verified to understand and generate US English, and to understand US English localities. I believe it will shut off if you change these, because it won't be able to accommodate that change.

British and Canadian English aren't that big of a delta, so I can't see it taking _that_ long for them to support them proper. Australian English, we'll just have to wait and see.

Same thing is happening for me. The solid white line flashes different colors when I double tap, but nothing happens. Same result on my iPhone 15 Pro Max and my iPad M2 Air. I'm trying it on the Home Screen. Does it not work there, and I need to be in an app or something to get it to work?

Also, I got the beta to show for my iPhone and iPad, but I cannot get it to show up for my M3 MacBook Pro. Anyone else not seeing for their MacBook (US Based)?
You can try ⌘+R to refresh the software page, then click the ⓘ to select 15.1

Queries shouldn't tie up resources until you ask a question. This is why Apple invested heavily in research around the ability to run their models efficiently off of flash rather than requiring them to be in RAM.

Indexing is still basically spotlight.

The new categories for inbound processing might - before synced/taken photos had facial recognition applied, but now you'll have a few more things like summarization of received email.
