  • It has touch sensors under the shell for detecting what part of the mosue you click with. However, it is NOT touch sensitive in the sense that if you don't push down, it registers a click.
  • You can turn "Two-button mode" on or off in System Preferences
  • It has a scroll ball that can scroll in any direction.
  • Its side buttons can be set up to activate Expose, Dashboard, Spotlight, or the application switcher
  • It is WIRED ONLY and costs $49

Aha! If that's the case, then it sounds REALLY cool!

BTW how come you know so much about how it works already? Or did I not read the Apple website properly like most of the rest of us? :D

If the top areas at the front are touch-sensitive, how are you supposed to hold it?
The mouse clicks as usual, by pressing down on the whole mouse. But it senses where your finger is when you do this - left or right. Plus you can click the scroll button, and squeeze the mouse sides for a click, making it a 360 degree, "4-button" mouse. Not bad.

Wow, never thought the day would come. Of course, leave it to Apple to do it right!

For those wondering about the touch sensitivity. In the QTVR gallery you can see the bottom and it looks like the mouse still "clicks" down just as the previous versions, but the touch sensor decides which side of the mouse you are pushing down with...don't worry, you will still have that tactile click. Genius!

Regarding the name -- yeah a little silly, but I would assume that after they start bundling it with new computers (and I would assume that is coming), they will drop the "Mighty" part

Only Apple could get people excited over a $50 corded mouse! :)

This news was big enough to make me finally register. I am soo tempted to get this mouse now and not even wait for the BT version. But wireless is so nice. How much would a BT one cost? $60-70 or more? That might be a little much.

Do normal apple mice work like that? i hold my mouse with both fingers on the buttons all the time, so basically i have to lift the finger i dont want to click and then press the whole mouse down? sounds awfully awkward to me

Great news and much bigger news than the ibook and mac mini updates. I like the looks and I'm happy it's wired. Wireless option down the road would be nice too though.

All this touch sensitive stuff makes me worry though. I find the movement of a click to be reassuring. I also wonder how tactile all that touch sensitive scrolling is. I have a Kensington Studio Mouse right now and it took me awhile to get used to the touch sensitve scroll wheel. I suppose I will have to try one in person before I buy one. Though it looks like I will love it, the force sensing side buttons that can bring dashboard up is the most tempting feauture for me.

Completely under the rumor radar?

AFAIK, there were no hints about this anywhere on rumor sites. Pretty impressive secrecy given the past attention this subject has received.

When I read the news I raised my arms and yelled "YES!" in excitement! Then my pug started barking :D  When they make this bluetooth Apple will have my money :)

NO, it's NOT a multi-button mouse..it's still a one-button mouse (as it always should be) with multi-button functionality; Apple is still faithful to its design principles.

Pleeasse.... i was just about to say how i can't wait to see how the one-button zealots will rationalize this one....

I need a middle button, not side buttons. I'll stick with Logitech.

That might indeed be a problem. But wouldn't it be cool if it sensed both fingers down and did a left click? Then you'd only have to lift for a right click. I have no idea if it does this.

As soon as there's a Bluetooth version of this, I'm buying it to supplement my MX900. The Logitech is a nice mouse, and I'll keep using it at my desk, but the Mighty Mouse will be a lot smaller and fit in my case more nicely for on-the-road use (and have an on/off button, I'll wager). Plus... it just looks better. :D

The name rocks.

I'll take a lightweight wired mouse over a heavy battery-ladened finger-tank any day.
