Man what is Steve doing?? Intel?? Two buttons?? Whats next Wal-Mart?

Wal-Mart is already selling Apple products. Where will it end?? :D

Maybe they will release a BT version in Paris, at the same time they make the corded MM the default mouse shipping with all systems.

Without entering into the two-button/one-button debate, this seems like bad user interface design. Devices should to some extent *look* like what they *do*. By disguising a two-button mouse as a one-button mouse, Apple has added functionality that is not *visible* to the user, creating the potential for user confusion. From a confused user's point of view, the same action would produce divergent behavior.

Am I the only person who thinks that Apple is putting aesthetics (the seamless look) ahead of functionality?

Hmm, You may be right. I'm still confused how this touch sensitive design works. I think I'll have to try it out in person, though.

hmmm...ok, one more time:

I wouldn't worry about how all the pressure sensitivity works.

Just think of the good old apple mouse. Same click design (that is the whole shell physically clicks down), it's just now it can sense which side of the mouse was given more pressure and responds accordingly with a left or right mouse click.

The scroll wheel also acts as a tactile clicking third button and yes it can roll and scroll in any direction, but lets say you are in Pages and there is only an up and down scroll bar, you don't have to roll the scroll wheel perfectly vertical to get the screen to scroll.

And lets hope you can turn off the sound effects if you don't want them.

If the top areas at the front are touch-sensitive, how are you supposed to hold it?

The same way you hold your mouse now. I'm sure they wouldn't be stupid enough to make them so sensitive, that resting your fingers on the mouse would start a click fest. When you want to click, just lift the finger and click - or perhaps just aply a little extra pressure. I'm sure it's fine.

As of yet it does not ship with the computers - not that surprising, but it also isn't a bto option and that sucks.

It looks good, but until I get a new Mac i.e. 1-2 years time and only then is it bluetooth will I consider buying one, Why didn't they release them together, its not like there was a rush to get the two button mouse on sale!

"Mighty Mouse even sounds as good as it feels. The audio feedback built into Mighty Mouse provides an aural sensation that responds to your movements. A tiny speaker inside Mighty Mouse produces button-clicking and Scroll Ball-rolling sound effects."

That would be interesting to hear, I hope you can turn this off!

eh, not excited at all about this. i've never liked the look of Apple's mice. the feel is just not comfortable at all. Apple knows alot of their users are professionals editing video/photos/graphics all day long, why dont they bring out a mouse thats more form fitting.

i like the MX1000 muuuch better, and will gladly stick with that. plus its got great rechargable wireless battery life

You know there'll be a wireless soon. When you think wireless, you think Applehttps://forums.macrumors.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=1635457#

I suspect the Mighty Mouse will ship with the preferences being for a single click so it's only power users who will turn on the 2 button system. I agree that for many people, 2 buttons just confuses them - they end up checking whether you meant left or right every time they click after the first time you tell them to right click.

This weekend, I was using iDVD for the first time in my life, and it really confused me that right-clicking didn't work in many where I felt it should. I was forced to use the regular menu (instead of a context menu) to delete an object. Hell, WHY? For a minute or so I actually thought there was a bug and that deleting objects was impossible...

I just wanna say that its about goddamn time. And HAHA to all you nay sayers who always rained on our parade every time this topic was brought up in the forums. Our years of whinning and complaining on the forums have finally paid off.

I just bought a color screened Apple branded (not HP) 20 GB iPod at Wal-Mart last Friday.

Seriously. If you don't believe me I'll post a pic of the box and receipt this evening.

Col design, iffy software

I almost can't believe my eyes! Apple, releasing a multi-function mouse?? The end of the world must be coming.
I love the design of this thing, but I'm not so sure about the programmability of it. From what little information they have on their site, it looks to me like each button can only have one global assigned function. I find that lame. This is just like the crappy Logitech software that comes with their otherwise well designed mouse products. I want to be able to program the buttons to do something specific in EACH application. For example, that middle scrollball button, I want to be a back button when in Safari. When in the Finder, maybe a Command-I function, etc, etc. I want each app I'm in to have it's own set of commands assigned to the buttons. That's the way USB Overdrive lets me set up my Logitech 2 button scrollwheel mouse. If Apple's software only allows global commands, it will be useless to me.

Guess I'll have to catch one of these at an Apple Store someday soon to see how the software rally works.

Otherwise, good work Apple. It's about friggin' time!

They're actually serious about the name...

Pretty cool mouse though. Will have to look into it. The price isn't too bad either. Add a Bluetooth version already. :p

just ordered ... even i have already a threebutton+scrollwheel mouse ... i am curious about this 360° scroller!

Hopefully they cleared the name with the creators of the cartoon Mighty Mouse, otherwise prepare for a lawsuit.

They list Viacom on the main page for the Mighty Mouse

Like people have already said, a bluetooth Mighty Mouse would eat the batteries. So, if people complain about the short battery life of the Pro Mouse Bluetooth, what would they say about the Might Mouse?

But, of course Apple will release a BT MM in the future...

Let's wait just a little more...

Ok, next task for the community: Please no FoulPlay™ DRM

They should not even think about doing anything bad to us. :)

Can anybody honestly tell me that this mouse is somehow better then the 2-button with scroll wheel Logitech mouse I bought for $10?
