didnt realise how much i missed a scroll button! pretty neat... but realised how much i dont like cables :(

still playing with it, esp the nipple! gonna tweak it now and see what it does! :D

its very cool how it knows which button youve pressed

i'm already pretending to have one and how nice it's gonna be once i have it.

the Scroll is alive on the Mac!

i think i missed being able to scroll more than i miss having a right click button. i don't really mind holding down the Control key as my hand is always on the keyboard anyways.

I've put a moratorium on posting in this thread. What do PC users think of nearly 1000 posts on a 2-button Apple mouse with scroll ball? They think us lunatics. Let us not give them further ammunition.

i think most pc users will think of it like a very gimmickal solution to accomplish/do the same
personally i was more like "meh" when seeing it ... while i welcome it as an option for buyers for the all-in-one option it's still a 4 button, scrollwheel optical mouse which have been around some time

and afaik i've seen the scroll ball thing before (but not sure)

Wow, over 900 posts for a mouse. Well, it sounds like overpriced junk so far, unfortunately. Why would the makey the side buttons not independent and programmable. The whole purpose of those buttons is to go forward and backward in web browsers. Couldn't they have updated the shape so that it wasn't designed for 8 year old Asian girls? It's too small for normal people to use without getting hand cramps. and 50 bucks? come on!

No, just a little obsessed. However, as a PC user, I find the idea of reinventing the mouse to be fascinating. By trying to find different and better ways of doing things, Apple helps keep innovation alive, and every now and then, comes up with something extraordinary.

BTW, gearing up to buy an iBook soon--my first Mac computer.

wow, i've been away for almost two weeks way up north at my cottage without internet access, i come back and see a GREAT mouse....and 2 measly updates to the ibooks and mac mini....i don't think they even deserve to be called updates :( although i do love the idea of apples new innovation to the mouse. can't wait to get one

Thanks for the detailed reply sushi. I never even thought about how I right-clicked before, but now that you and others have mentioned it, I notice that I subconsciously lift up my left finger when I right click too, so this whole issue would be a non-issue for me if I did end up buying one of these.

Thanks again!

I can't believe so many people are so excited over a dumb little mouse. Lets just hope millions will no go out and buy one. :D

This is a sign that Apple has not come out with anything really exciting since the iPod.

You would be excited too if you were waiting for it for the past 20 years... ;)

Even though it's "just a mouse", think it's still a pretty exciting product - it's innovative and very "Apple". Sure, it's not a major product like a new Mac, but I wouldn't knock it too bad.

But "nothing exciting since the iPod", you say? I beg to differ - PowerMac G5s, G5 iMacs, Panther, Tiger, the list goes on...

If you have, let me know, because I believe Apple is the first to implement such a device in this manner. Keep in mind it is different from a trackball...

Let's just say it...

Mac users can finally masturbate with one hand and download porn/run the browser with the other.

Can't believe the response!

Isn't it strange how that Apple can release a mouse .... a mouse and it generate more buzz than anything I ever remember Dell or HP releasing.

Nice

The Logitech I bought last week is back in it's packaging, ready to be returned and the mighty mouse has been ordered :)

I think this is great, I wanted the three button mouse, but the logitech is soo pc ish and normal, if I wanted normal and boring I would have bought a Dell. So Mighty Mouse to save the day!

Can't wait till it arrives, and I love the fact that something this cool was released with none of the rumor sites predicting it. Ha ha better luck next time, :p

Also, the virtual click and scroll sounds it makes is intriguing, can't friggin wait to get it!!! :D

Yeah, maybe now Apple realizes they had their collective heads up their butts for the longest time, while everyone around them was screaming for a multi-button mouse.

If the top areas at the front are touch-sensitive, how are you supposed to hold it?
Overblown or fraudulent Apple PR. It's not really touch sensitive. Ars Technica has a review of the MM.

Side buttons

I've read in a couple of reviews and saw/heard in a video review linked here that you have to squeeze both buttons at the same time, this is incorrect and probably one of the reasons why people are having issues using them.

I'm right handed and when my hand is in a natural position on the mouse the end of my thumb is over the left side button, while my ring and pinky fingers are almost straddling the right side button (neither in a great position to click the right side button firmly). If I had to squeeze both buttons I'd have to shift my had to an uncomfortable position.

Since I'm the only one at my office with one of the new mice every mac user (that's everyone here) is stopping by to check it out, and I have noticed that almost everyone seems to have their hands in the same general position I do. And every one of them that tries to "squeeze both buttons" can't make it work without some effort. But as soon as I point out that it doesn't matter which side button they click, everything is fine.

Try it for yourself.

MAC MINI MOUSE OPTION

The wired keyboard/Mighty mouse option for the Mac mini is $78 on the Apple website. $20 more that the standard wired keyboard and mouse combo.

And therefore we formulate the MacRumors Theorem: The number of posts on the forum are inversely related to the magnitude of the computer product released.

But it's a MIGHTY mouse. :p

I think it's because Steve Jobs/Apple obviously were making it a point that Macs would not use a two-/multi-button mouse when everyone on the industry was adding more buttons and functionalities to mice.

Maybe someone knows an exact quote from Steve or more info? Certainly he must have been asked about the one-button mouse at some point, but I can't find anything.

I tend to agree with some that the design was partly inspired by Steve's or someone's stubbornness to not use a two-button mouse. (Don't get me wrong, I like one-button mice, but when everyone else in the entire world is using multi-button mice, not doing so is obstinance.)

PC users also often bring up the only one button thing. It's almost worth buying the mouse just for that reason. :D

It's an odd coincidence, because my mother on Sunday mentioned that it seems like more and more sites are mentioning in downloading instructions that right-click on PCs means Control-click on Macs. Now with the Might Mouse they may not mention this anymore, although I'm sure it will be many years before one-button mice are history.

second day using this mouse... so far the button setting is good but i think it shoud be more options in asigning comand to the mouse. I think apple shoud update the software to add in these features. For the side click, since you can click one side to activate the function no need to click both at the same time, right can go "forward" and left can go "back"

This is pretty awesome. I would love to see it bundled with the imacs and powermacs as the default mouse. Is there even a reason to keep the standad pro mouse around?

Off course there is, integrity. The orignal mouse is everything apple stands for. There idea of simplicity, and essentails only. Don't you know.
