I bought one yesterday at the Northshore mall Apple Store. I love it so far. I have the squeeze feature set for all windows and I love how quickly I can switch from one window to another. Also, I think the little scroll ball is great. I like it much more than the tilting scroll wheel found on some other mice.

As far as the form factor goes, I guess Apple could have given it a more ergonomic shape, but then it wouldn't work equally well for right and left handed users.

I'll be quite happy with this mouse until they come out with a BT version. :)

My only quibble is I wish I could turn up the volume of the internal speaker because the ambient noise level in my office masks the sound coming from the mouse.

So maybe Apple didn't hit a home run with this mouse, but it's a stand up double at least.

So can you rest your finger on the mouse? or do you have to have your finger floating over it, call me lazy, but i would perfer having my fingers on the mouse instead of having to lift it off the thing. So does it?

Thanks!

Give it a few months-year...and this will be the standard mouse on all Apples.

I think they will wait to see reaction to it, work out any bugs, and develop a wireless version before standardizing it.

I was told today by an apple store employee that this mouse will not be a standard item with new macs.

Or currently as an upgrade either.

Just the flat $49

:(

I think its only time....

Who wants to have 2 mice running around? I know I certainly don't want an infestation!

lol

Hopefully that Apple Store employee doesn't know anymore than anyone else. IUt just wouldn't make sense for Apple not to include them on all new Mac's. The price is the same as the older version.

(can't wait to play with that little nipple)
Got one from the Apple store in Tokyo. Like the nipple! :D Long lines of folks purchasing them. Originally, when I arrived they said they were sold out. Then some more came in. Everyone seemed to be flocking to purchase one. My bet is Apple has a winner on their hands. Good for them.

When I arrived home, I tried it out on Panther and WinXP -- without drivers.

Will try later this week on Tiger since I have to load it on my PM.

Initial impression is very positive. Love the nipple! :) Surprised by how well it works. With X.2, L&R mouse clicks work and both direction scroll works in safari. With XP SP2, L&R mouse clicks work and vertical scroll works in IE.

Looking forward to trying out Tiger with the Mighty Mouse.

Apple done good! :D

man, i was really hoping to have the Mighty Mouse at my door this morning, but unfortunatly I wake up to the notice that same day shipping has changed to shipping in 2-4 days. i guess this mouse is really that hot of an item, or more like Apple really didn't expect them to be that great of a selling item.

Which version is the one you're referring to as the older version? The current wired one-button mouse is only $29... The Mighty Mouse is $49. How is that the same price?

After years of speculation??? More like 'years after the rest of the industry'.

Yes, "years after the rest of the industry", because the rest of the industry has had touch-sensitive buttons, Scroll Balls and squeeze-triggers for years...

It only right-clicks when you pick up your finger off the left side.
Not true. You do not have to pick up your opposite finger.

It clicks based on pressure. If you press more with the right side, it becomes a right button click -- both with Mac X.3 and WinXP.

Edit:

Sorry, my bad on this.

For a right button click, you do have to raise your left finger off of the mouse. For a left button click, you do not have to raise your right finger off of the mouse.

Is this based on ducomentation you've read or actual experience? Just curious, as there seems to be some debate over this issue.

The Apple Pro mouse (black) debuted at $59: link

At $59 (free with the purchase of a new desktop Mac), the Apple Pro Mouse is decently priced, although it's a bit more expensive than Microsoft's Intellimouse, an optical device with two buttons and a scrolling wheel. But in any event, this new mouse is certainly a solid option for all the Mac users other there who are tired of mousing in the round.

... at the time it wa replacing the 'puck' mouse.

Button assignment in pre-10.4.2 systems?

I've not upgraded to Tiger yet. I know...get with the program.
I've noticed that when I have a multi-button mouse plugged in, I can use the Expose control panel to assign Expose functions to mouse buttons (ie buttons 3, 4, 5, etc.).

Can someone with a new MM see if this works to assign expose to the ball and squeeze buttons on pre-10.4.2 systems without the CD installed? If it does, I'll probably go out and buy one (and maybe a copy of Tiger while I'm at it...which would make this a moot point)

:p

This signals the end of Macintosh as we know it! *relentlessly repeats previous posts* Aaagh! x86! Aaagh! Multibutton mouse! Aaagh! Still doesn't have lots of games though. *shrug*

My own use/actual experience.

Purchased mine at the Tokyo Apple store this evening.

At home I tried it with X.3 and WinXP. L&R buttons and vertical scroll are supported with both. X.3 allows for horizontal scroll. All without installing any drivers.

Later this week I will use it on Tiger after I install Tiger on my PM. Although, I did try it with Tiger at the store before I purchased the Mighty Mouse -- worked fine for me.

Edit:

I sit corrected! My bad.

You do have to lift your left finger to get a right mouse click. In my case I was doing it subconsciously. After reading the recent messages, I tried again on X.3 and WinXP. To get a right mouse click you must lift your left finger.

However, to get a left button click, you do not need to lift your right finger.

Sorry for the confusion.

I can't believe so many people are so excited over a dumb little mouse. Lets just hope millions will no go out and buy one. :D

This is a sign that Apple has not come out with anything really exciting since the iPod.

I've put a moratorium on posting in this thread. What do PC users think of nearly 1000 posts on a 2-button Apple mouse with scroll ball? They think us lunatics. Let us not give them further ammunition.

I'll take this one :D

The mouse buttons physically click down just like any mouse--in the same way as other Apple mice: the top shell clicks down at the nose end.

So the action of clicking works and feels just like any other mouse.

With one exception: using multiple buttons at once: no matter whether you click left, right, or ball/middle, it's still the whole shell clicking down just like we're used to with the Pro Mouse. So you can't combine left and right clicks into combinations (like some games use). I don't think you can combine the ball button either, although squeeze should be combinable with the other functions.

The touch sensor thing is ONLY to decide WHICH button you meant to press. Side effect: if you want a right click, you must life your left finger off the mouse when you do it. That's the only way (unless you put right-click on the squeeze--or MAYBE the middle button--not sure*).

It seems that most people do that anyway, oddly enough--but if you don't, you'll find yourself needing to learn a new habit to get right-clicking to work consistently.

* EDIT: So for owners: what's the word? While you're in the middle of left-dragging a file icon, can you trigger the ball button with another finger and have it work, but not drop the left-drag? I assume not. (I know you can't trigger a right click in the middle of a left-drag or vice versa... and I'm pretty sure you CAN trigger a squeeze-click just fine in the middle of ANY drag. Right?)

And can you trigger a ball-click without lifting any other fingers off the mouse? (Might make the ball a good right-click choice for people who don't already "do the lift" if so.)

i ahve one in my hands as of 30 mins!!! i just finished dinner..now for the INSTALL!!! muhahahahaha :D

But we are lunatics.

I just got one and am using it on my PC at work until i can bring it home tonight. Only thing it won't do on the PC is scroll left and right with the ball.

I will definitely have to try before I buy. The design sounds convoluted - pressre sensitive pads and fake click noises? A simple switch will do.

Is all real clicking sound not fake or is it not
Apple Says:
Now Hear This
Mighty Mouse even sounds as good as it feels. The audio feedback built into Mighty Mouse provides an aural sensation that responds to your movements. When you scroll or click, Mighty Mouse produces subtle sound effects based on your actions.

when i use it, i know the left right and middle click is a real sound upon clicking or scrolling, but the side click is a soft clicking noise, maybe thats the audio feedback?
