i'm suprised it isn't called Mighty Mouse HD, to be honest.

and i have a feeling this is one of many "exciting new products" steve has in mind...

oooh, oOOOooOoOh!!! Mighty Mouse Socks!!!!

Scrollball vs Trackpad

With a simple modification, I bet the scrollball could replace the trackpad in laptops. And if you remove the area taken up by the trackpad, you basically end up with IBM's TrackPoint (found in ThinkPads).

This could be used in a miniBook!

Does anybody else think that "Mighty Mouse" is the least apple-esque sounding name they could have chosen?
Yeah and its just begging for derision. I am glad they have not really hyped-it 9introduced it at MWSF). It is different but I bout a 7 button mouse for my mini and have no interest in MM.

I don't think so...mighty mouse is a giant [snimal] mouse who goes around saving people, whereas apple's mighty mouse is a computer periphial (sp). they're not similar enough for patent/trademark laws to come into play here. Ithought of that too when I first saw the name though.

*looks to make sure the pigs are still on the ground*

yup, this is sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

Their pro mouse has usability issues. Every Apple mouse ever made has usability issues. From the Hockey Puck mouse to the Mighty Mouse, Apple continually screws up. Personally I use a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer and it feels so much better in my hand than the pro mouse that came with my G5.

I've never been impressed much with Apple mouses either. I love my Logitech MX510! And although I think the Mighty Mouse is really cool, it does sound like there may be some issues with it from what some people are saying. I guess we'll get a better idea once more people have them and are using them.

Let's make a new rule: No bitching about a product unless you've actually bought it and used it.

What about the things we can say without using it?

It's ugly (to me). It has no buttons (I still dislike the idea of clicking down on the whole mouse). It's $50.

Only with Mac Fans can we get a thread with over 860 posts about a friggin mouse!

Yeah, but these posts have been building up for 20 years+ since the first Mac users have asked for something more than just a 1-button mouse! ;)

After years of speculation??? More like 'years after the rest of the industry'.

Worthless yet overpriced piece of crap, it is.

I bought one! :) and i don't like a Bluetooth mouse.
So i'm set.

I don't like Logitech mouse, and I don't like Microsoft mouse.
I like the Apple Pro Mouse.

For me this is a good improvement.

If you currently own a logitech mouse then don't whine about the Mighty Mouse. Your not gonna get one anyways.

One uses LEDs the other uses real LASERS. ie. Light Amplification by Stimulated Emmissions of Radiation. Omigod.

I appreciate the explanation, honestly.
Well, lasers or not, I don't use a mouse pad for my current Apple mouse so I don't think I'll need one for the new one (whenever it finally gets delivered).

Thanks. :)

The one-button mouse was a design decision, and I think a fundamentally good one. I'm a computer lab assitant at my university, and I can tell you some people will actually rest their right finger on the right mouse button while holding their left finger up. Then you tell them to click, and they click the right mouse button.

Granted, it's not as bad now that more people are computer savvy, and maybe that's why Apple finally decided to make a multibutton mouse.

Without entering into the two-button/one-button debate, this seems like bad user interface design. Devices should to some extent *look* like what they *do*. By disguising a two-button mouse as a one-button mouse, Apple has added functionality that is not *visible* to the user, creating the potential for user confusion. From a confused user's point of view, the same action would produce divergent behavior.

Generally, I'd agree with you, but how many people actually look at the mice as they use them? They'll probably accidentally try right clicking once, be surprised that it works, and then carry on using it.

Where can I order a Mighty Mouse that will ship the same day?
Everyone's backed up, even the Apple Store, Mac mall, Mac Connection, Small Dog, and Amazon doesn't even have it listed!

Haha yea, I bought one too
 I can't wait until it gets here! I've always loved Apple mice, MS ones I never liked, and Logitech ones were always too expensive. (But what am I saying, this thing was 50 bucks... )

Amazon has it listed now, but it ships "1-2 weeks."

Apple should have waited a week to have a few thousand more of these guys ready.

NOT STANDARD ON NEW COMPUTERS!

I was told today by an apple store employee that this mouse will not be a standard item with new macs.

Or currently as an upgrade either.

Just the flat $49

:(

I think its only time....

Who wants to have 2 mice running around? I know I certainly don't want an infestation!

lol

That's quite stupid. I thought the point of a 2 button Apple Mouse was somewhat to sway switchers by actually showing them it can be just like windows (well not just like windows :D ). If you can't even upgrade, this may only annoy potential switchers who don't want to shell out the extra $49. They should have an upgrade price of like $30 (according to what Apple prices there stuff at haha). That would squeeze you just enough to upgrade but kinda feel guilty about it, that's generally how Apple works for pricing stuff. :p
