So if a new 4th generation ipad was just introduced...why is there not a price cut across the board on the ipad 2 and 3rd generation models?

Very confused. Oh, and that $329 price point sucks.

I'm betting the reason is that both the 2 and the "3/New" will simply and quietly fade away, letting stores take the hit to clear out old inventory. The 2 stayed around to offer a less expensive alternative to the "new" iPad, and that job just got filled. No more 30 pin devices after the last box leaves the showroom.

Then take some Dramamine before you read on your iPad 2 or sell it and get rid of the source of the nausea altogether. No one is forcing you to read on that poor, old iPad 2 with its terrible screen.

That's why I don't use it. And if you think I'm the only one who uses it, you're making a poor assumption.

The iPad mini is nice for someone who is interested. I for one rather have the regular iPad. Don't see the point of it. the iPhone and iPad fit my needs perfectly, something in between not necessary IMO.
But I understand the need of Apple to get into this to smash the competition.

Smart move on Apple's part.

Releasing the iPad 4 at the same time as the mini was a very smart move on Apple's part.

If they would have introduced the mini ar $200 or even $250, it would have crippled iPad 3 sales and resulted in far less profits overall. By introducing the much improved iPad 4 along with the $230 mini, they're going to continue to make exceptional profits on both. Better products, better sales, better profits! That's every companies dream.

my colleague bought the nexus

it crashed several times on the first of day

when i first saw it, i thought it was pretty cool

after the first crash, he was pissed and i was disappointed

i was really considering buying it but not anymore after the crashes :(

Where the heck did that come from?

Also they moved their target launch date to the very busy Holliday shopping season. That only will help to sell more units. Smart move.

There should be a down vote button on MR forums.

I don't need to smell your fart to know it stinks.

This is flawed logic. First, not all farts smell. Second, a fart is just gasses while this is a piece of technology. You absolutely do need to try it out to decide if its worth the price.

You have to touch a product to criticize it's specifications? Apple apologists will go to any length...

Spec criticism is valid, especially if you shop based on spec...

But isn't apple products often under-spec'ed (or priced higher that the similar spec'ed offering) compared to the competition? And yet many of their products are still wildly successful - obviously it's more than just specs that avg customer shop for.

True, Apple shouldn't have to put up with criticism, after all they are Apple. One's only choices are buy it or shut up, obviously.

Apple supplies a product that is openly sold to the public. As a consumer, you think they should be deaf to feedback of their product? Really? Apple isn't giving these away for free. They are selling them at a high premium. A person who buys their product should be able to have any public or private opinion of it. If Apple can't realize or take this, then they should cease selling products to the public.

And you on the other hand - you are the god decent truth?

You know what they say about self-acclaimers, yeah?

I don't consider myself the god decent truth. But if you don't agree that these boards can been a whine fest of complaints after complaints. It's UNREAL!!!!!

1) you already had a feeling it was gonna be non-retina. This isn't a shocker and yet on announcement day, you are shocked!!! I mean really? You are really shocked about this? Now?

2) It doesn't matter if you it had retina display, then people would complain about either the processor or the back finish that is been getting attention.

If you are product doesn't give you a B*** job then you will be complaining left around right. People every complain and complain and complain and complain and complain. They spend more time complaining than actually using their products.

It's a simple solution. Don't buy. and change your platform. If people are gonna complain from the 13 inch macbook not getting a dedicated graphics card which btw IT HASN"T HAD IN TWO YEARS!!!! Or they are gonna complain that apple didn't do this or that. Or that their quality has fallen even though it is by far still considered the best produced products (from materials) across the board. This isn't something I just express, its something the WHOLE INDUSTRY and MEDIA agrees with.

At the end of the day, Internet is turning into a place you can vent out your frustrations. Who knows...maybe a bird took a dump on your head. Or you are having a bad day at the office. Or maybe you work up early and thought Apple would bring out the greatest product in the world! and you are pissed because the wifi compliancy is not up to date.

I tell people this all the time. Instead of whining, do something about it. If you don't like the direction apple is going. If you don't like the pricing that apple is doing. If you don't like the software apple is programming. Then Change. CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE. Stop standing here and keep whining. Just change.

Find something better. As a consumer, you have the option. There are cheaper tablets, different phones, and a 100 of computer designers that has similar designs. Why don't you try them?

Half the posts posted during announcement time is whiners.

I'll join in too. I'm whining about all the whiners. There...full circle is complete.

Same as you, and to discuss them. You have to ask yourself, though, what sort of a person comes to a site for information about a company's products but only wants to hear good things, and not criticisms.

I have no problems with criticism. What I have problems with are the droves of people on this site who does nothing, absolutely nothing, but complain about every single thing Apple does nowadays. If the company were to invent a flying car that ran on water and sell it for $1 there are several people here that would still call it an E P I C F A I L because they didn't give it away for free and that it only did 400 mpg.

This has just exploded in the last year or so and I find myself coming here much less frequently just because of it.

Wow, super disappointed on the specs. Not only an outdated processor but rather sad screen resolution. Here's hoping they move to gen 2 or give it a serious spec bump shortly after the holidays.

No.

The resolution is lower than $199 devices.

I would think after 264 posts in this thread that question wouldn't need to be asked.

And? Questions always need to be asked (but that's my bias as a scientist). What good would a review be if the reviewer just said, "It's good" or "It's awful" without ever demonstrating why? I still fail to see how a lower screen PPI somehow makes the iPad Mini not amazing. The Nexus 7 and Fire HD have 216 PPI, so what?! If screen pixel density is what's most important then buy those instead. That doesn't mean the iPad Mini isn't amazing.

If you're using "success" as a benchmark, they Microsoft beats Apple hands down, since it's much more used. Specifications and design are valid targets for criticism, as is hand-feel.

The point is is to identify the weakness in Apple's products, as well as strengths, but mostly here people just call other people "whiners" instead of defending Apple's choices.

Look up satire in the dictionary.

Comparing the new 32GB Nexus 7 to the 32GB Mini, the Nexus has a far faster CPU, (...)

For the first time, I'm not impressed by a new Apple product. The Nexus 7 is indeed ahead of the iPad Mini.

Obviously some people feel Apple is not doing anything well. There are also people who blindly say everything Apple does is wonderful, so what's your point? Apple has been criticized in much the same way for decades. You obviously weren't around in the 80s.
