When Phil Schiller kept saying: "Blah blah blah... iPad Mini is so much better than the iPad 2 I thought he was mistaking iPad 2 with the new iPad. I guess not huh? No retina display & $329?

iPad for Women and Children

I think it's safe to say a lot of the people here are guys. Go grab you wife or kids hands and think about who can benefit from this -- education market. My girlfriend already wants to trade her iPad in for the mini.

unbelievable greediness

So disappointed in this scam Apple are trying to pull, and will no doubt successfully manage.
People who know me will know I do not say this lightly, as I have been using Apple products since 1997 and have spent quite a bit of cash.

The iPad Mini is priced in Ireland and rest of the Eurozone at 339Euros which is $440 or £276!!!

The update to the 'regular' iPad is nice and all, but the timing is below the belt.

Too big for their boots now, was really hoping they would be sensible on the pricing of this product, but hey, what's the opinion of loyal customer got to do with anything? .... nothing obviously....

Why no phone?

What am I missing? What could be difficult about adding a phone? You can hold it in one hand but . . . You can talk to Siri, but . . . Why do I need to tote around a tablet AND phone? Does anyone else have a phone on their tablet? Wouldn't adding a phone make a category killer? The head tech has left the house?

Years ago I was trying to figure out how to add a readable display to my phone. Now I want all in one. This old grouch is never satisfied.

This is brilliant!

The 7.9 inch size is revolutionary - it is night and day compared to the "tweener" 7 inch tablets. Web pages will be SO much easier to read. Amazon and Google don't stand a chance against it. The mini is literally magical!

Still playing with yourself with that name of your's?

Maybe you must have a limp wrist that you can't lift the first gen iPad? Your eyesight must be so bad that you needed Retina Display to see web pages better?

Lay off the Kool Aid.

I don't need Retina Displays to SEE better. It's all 'eye candy' BS.

Width is NOT an inch bigger, more like 1/2 inch (15mm). Display is much bigger.

Ipad mini is much thinner. 7.2mm vs 10.5.

Nexus 7 is 4.6 inch width

iPad mini is 5.3 inch width. 0.7 inch more wider than the nexus 7.

I do not think it is easy on one hand operation - iPad mini (definitely better than iPad); Nexus 7 fits right in my hand - 36 year old here.

likewise I said earlier we have to see in Store.

The iPad Mini isn't even a retina display ... and you need to calm down.

Comparing the new 32GB Nexus 7 to the 32GB Mini, the Nexus has a far faster CPU, a slightly better GPU, a standard USB port, a higher resolution screen and thus a far higher PPI, but yet costs over $180 less. Sure, the new iPad Mini will be a hit.... People will also surely love the new crApple maps app on iOS 6, which will work even better since the wi-fi mini will not a have a GPS, unlike the Nexus 7, and passbook will work great, especially with no NFC capabilities, again, unlike the Nexus 7. What a failure of a product Apple has excreted...

The Nexus is a bit crappy, though - that's the deal breaker.

But we, my fellow Brit, are enjoying two year EU mandatory warranty as well as the 20% VAT on top.

Americans get it cheaper but have much worse consumer protection.

Can't lick both sides of the lollipop.

But we Seppos can get equivalent consumer protection for a moderate cash outlay, if we want.

All in all, it probably balances out overall.

----------

I purchased my Nexus in July, and since have had perhaps 4-5 crashes total. Compared to my iPad 1, which crashes around every 5-10 minutes on iOS5,

Riiiiiiight.

I am extreme happy with the Nexus. Perhaps that guy got a DOA one?

And if you actually have one, same for yours?

I love the look of the Mini way more than I thought I would. It's a few bucks more than an iPod Touch, so I don't see why there are complaints about pricing. For the screen size, it's also approaching retina PPI.

I'll pick up a white one on launch day.

As i'm seemingly not the only one talking slightly off topic...

Could some native speaker comment on the performance on stage? To me Cook tried to copy Steve Jobs (e.g. by speaking slowly, pronouncing certain syllables, choosing similar words), but did not show the true passion that drove SJ. To me Cook wasn't authentic.

I don't know. I felt it, too. However, I just hate how Tim always says "We think that the customer's really going to appreciate this." Steve would says "We think you're going to love it." I know it's a small thing, but I think that was all a part of Steve's showmanship that Tim, Phil et. al haven't been able to master.

This is the big problem I am having with the presentation today. It was one of the worst in regards to marketting i have seen out of Apple in a long time.

The way they handled the ipad mini portion was actually quite bad. If Anything they did more to sell Nexus 7's than iPad mini.

If you have to speak for 10 minutes on why you're better than your competitors product, by actually attacking your competitors product and showing off the minute differences, You have a problem.

If you have to speak for 10 minutes why you believe your product justifiably warrants the $100 premium price increase, That is bad.

The take away on this is that what the ipad mini delivers in Apples own eye doesn't stand on it's own above and beyond the competition. They actually had to "cut the heads off others to make them seem taller".

If the ipad mini can't sell itself at it's current price point in comparison to it's competition, than it's priced too high.

we'll see tomorrow.
But like current trend the last few days and weeks. Apple stock has taken a hit. Seems like investors haven't been overly impressed with Apple the last week or two.

Most telling is that it is desperation on Apple's part. They kept quiet about the iPad4 knowing Microsoft's Surface has arrived and needed something to counter it.

Also in the presentation, they showed charts of other competitors but did not mention Samsung. Interesting, yes?

I guess you're a committed Apple customer because you didn't notice the premium in the price. It's a more basic product, missing features like high-dpi, yet it's priced as a premium small tablet. Pretty simple really. You're trying to somehow contort your argument to say that this smaller tablet is the same product as the larger one, and should be compared price wise accordingly. LOL!

You mean as opposed to the product that is sold at less than it costs, hoping to make it up on post purchase sales? You have been fooled into thinking the price for a Kindle is a fair price because they are willing to take a loss.

It is a little saddening to see Apple protecting their profit margin with the iPad mini rather than using their weight to really challenge other smaller tablets and woo customers away who are looking at those products. I've been waiting for this announcement so as to decide between the iPad or iPad mini. Given the new specs for both, I'll probably end up getting the 4th gen iPad - more bang for my buck.

Apple is indeed beginning to "worship at the alter of profit margin," which may be a bad sign, long-term. For instance, how's Apple Publishing doing?

The iPad Mini isn't even a retina display ... and you need to calm down.

I'm aware of that. It's quite bizarre how Apple is presenting their products today when the iPad4 and iPhone, along with MacBook Pro have Retina displays. I can see why they want to evolve slowly, but the new iMac form factor was not very surprising to see knowing their obsession with going thinner as if the company wants to lessen the weigh impact on people's wrists. It's so. . . .effeminate, I hate to say it.

I have a 1G iPad and don't mind the weight of it. It's thin enough to fit in my messenger bag. The most ironic thing is Apple is 'anorexic' with their product form factors but have so much product bloat.

What sort of a person goes to a Fansite when they hate the products and the people so much? Don't you have anything better to do? Is your life totally and completely void of joy and purpose?

I mean ... really. There are absolutely no Apple fans who go to Android sights to tell everybody just how much Android sucks. We just want to come here to enjoy how awesome Apple stuff is and to talk with cool people.

But no - you can't be content with your smelly loser Fandroid friends. You have a bizarre compulsion to come here and complain about our character in a personal and insulting manner.

Do you go to people's living rooms and take a dump in the middle of the floor?Do you go to the latest great movie and scream about how everybody there is a moron if they think that Adam Sandler is the funniest thing ever? Probably you do, given how much you love anything that Apple DOESN'T make.

Either that, or you are just a paid shill from Google. The very thought makes me sick to my stomach.
