Curious to see the plan for higher edu market as they have the Education bundle for $199 one time charge for a long long time ago.

If they discontinued that SKU, I want to know the update plan moving forward.
They have a link (footnote) on the Apple site for education.

It’s like 2.99 a month or 29.99 a year for education.

Welp. My boys are being Liquid Glassed. So long, old friends.
You beat me to it. I love how people are not following the link to Apples website to actually read the info.

Reminds me of when I worked for a company that was upgrading their card terminals at the stores. I asked about Apple Pay and they said they wouldn’t support it because Apple charges them. I was like, no they don’t, and pulled up the whole page about how Apple Pay works and where Apple gets their money for the transaction.

Guess what, they added Apple Pay. People need to stop taking ‘articles’ at face value. If you have questions, follow the link to the source.
I remember as a kid in school, we couldn’t quote Wikipedia, but we could use Wikipedia’s foot notes to find the source.

Understandably, the apps need to bring in revenue, but $12.99/month? Should have been more like $3.99/month especially with this:

"In the Pixelmator Pro app on the Mac and iPad, for example, Apple Creator Studio subscribers will get access to a new Warp tool for twisting and shaping image layers. And in the Numbers, Pages, and Keynote apps, an Apple Creator Studio subscription will unlock a Content Hub with royalty-free photos, premium templates, themes, and more."

Does $12.99/month justify templates, themes, and a warp tool? The pricing is very tone deaf considering how much people can find online for free especially with AI tools which are much cheaper per month and provide so much more.

I hope Apple gets the results one might expect from this pricing strategy.

It looks like a lot, but really, it isn't for pro apps. If the subscription makes Apple work on updates and features then this seems ok. I'm all in on Adobe and I'm paying a lot more. Too bad I haven't found good replacements yet, I'm stuck on habits and specific features.

I would love for Apple to simplify these subscription models.

Have ONE monthly or annual subscription with the ability to turn individual services on and off as needed. When a set of features are added, "bundle" pricing may be applied. Removing a service may mean you no longer qualify for a bundle, and that would be fine. But it gives customers a single monthly or annual payment and an easy to way to manage what that payment covers.

Adding yet another subscription to manage is not the direction that Apple needs to be going. Keep it simple!
For Apple's part, they are keeping it about as simple as possible in this case. One subscription price for all their software.

What you're talking about sounds a lot like the Microsoft 365 subscription model. That is the opposite of simple.

I know a lot of people are upset with the move to subscription pricing. I agree, it’s not the best. But compared to Creative Cloud, this is a steal, and if it can help Apple put the screws to Adobe alongside Affinity, then I’m all for it. Adobe needs some serious competition for once.

Actually this works for me. I normally use FCP twice a year.

This allows me to buy buy 2 separate months every year.

It is not elitist to tell people they need to save up to buy the best tools.
Yes it is. "You gotta pay your dues" is absolutely an elitist attitude.

Every trade has always worked like that. People often start with less expensive (or [gasp!] free) tools when they're learning, & graduate to more precision, expensive tools as their skills increase. This is true whether you're a pixel poker, a code slinger, a carpenter, or a seamstress/tailor.
Software-based trades don't work like that and never have. While "learning", those high-end precision tools are handed out for very cheap and often even free (including some tools that are incredibly expensive - far more expensive than anything Apple has ever sold). Creative workflows are built around specific software tools and moving to "more precision, expensive" tools usually means completely overhauling that workflow. "Graduating" in the way that you imply is not nearly as simple as buying a bigger air compressor, more capable torque wrench, or a faster sewing machine.

And nobody is empowered by the subscription software model, other than shareholders.
There are a lot of up-and-coming "pixel pokers" out there who might have previously found the $1000+ price tag of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign incredibly hard to swallow, but are absolutely fine paying $90/mo to get those tools plus all the others offered in Creative Cloud.

Good or bad idea aside, I can’t help but think it strange having, for example, Logic Pro bundled with… uh…. Numbers…. 🤷🏻‍♂️😅
Yeah, the positioning of this is kind of weird. It seems a lot like someone decided to put together a subscription for a "Final Cut Studio" type of bundle and then thought "hey, might as well include all the AI iWork stuff in there as well".

One thing is clear - the thought that they definitely didn't have was "You know, we should probably run this one past the marketing department first."

Seriously, though…if you were using the iPad versions of FCP and Logic, that was a $100, so now you can get it all for $29 more. The devil is in the details then all this launches, conjecture here is just not helpful.
