From Apple's news release: "Keynote, Pages, Numbers, and Freeform will remain free for all users to create, edit, and collaborate with others, including Apple Creator Studio subscribers. These apps will continue receiving updates, with the latest versions adopting the beautiful new visual design language with Liquid Glass on all platforms, and supporting the new windowing and menu bar improvements in iPadOS 26."

It seems they're adding some Copilot-esque features to the paid version, but the base version remains free.
At the risk of sounding dense..... Numbers stays free if I don't want the AI junk? OK- that is good to know. As long as I can run formulas.

I WAS going to buy Final Cut Pro but am glad that I didn't, it would have been a waste of $300. Bummer as I like the advanced features but it's just not worth it for a small content creator. iMovie it is!

Apple co-opts 'Richard David James' with their new "Windowskicker" . . .

. . . love the energy, but "...slow your roll...."

Yeah, the positioning of this is kind of weird. It seems a lot like someone decided to put together a subscription for a "Final Cut Studio" type of bundle and then thought "hey, might as well include all the AI iWork stuff in there as well".

One thing is clear - the thought that they definitely didn't have was "You know, we should probably run this one past the marketing department first."

And the other thought they didn't have is:

"Is this going to lead to our products being the best for customers?"

Apple customers have been so frog boiled that I think folks haven't really noticed how far away everything has gotten from "make the best products and the profits will come".

Tim has totally inverted that over time.

What would be really nice in this suite would be a 3D asset and scene creation tool, something to make USDZ files to drop into all the other apps in the suite… something with Apple’s design sensibility without the long learning curve of Blender.

The pixelmator icon going from

is baffling. As someone pointed out, it seems to be focusing on vector graphics but it's just such a weird icon.
I want to believe they experimented with a brush in the icon, but they probably thought it would've been too similar to the Pages icon, which has a pen.

My charitable interpretation of their intentions is that the top layer is supposed to be a standard bitmap layer, and the bottom, a vector one, attempting to communicate that the program is capable of both.

Doesn't really do a good job though as in the end, you may think it's strictly a vector program.

I wish Apple would take this icon design makeover and apply it to all their native apps. At least then they would be consistent. The pen in the Pages icon needs to be thinner though.

Speaking of the icons..
