Great, so soon Google will be able to read all your documents and spreadsheets, even if you don't use any other Google services. Not to mention the slow transition of apple made apps going to subscriptions. I'm moving more and more towards Linux with every one of these kinds of articles. Someone just needs to make a Linux based phone and I'll be all set.

Paying extra for new "AI" features in the iWork apps?
I mean, I guess that's a reason for me to *not* pay for it.

[Edit]
Pixelmator Pro, Final Cut Pro, etc. -- If you go to Apple's web sites for these apps, it does mention this new subscription prominently, but it also mentions that you can still get them as a "one-time purchase" from the App Store. We'll see how long that sticks.

...Some of these apps are pretty expensive (i.e. $300 for Final Cut Pro), so I can see how this looks like a "deal", especially if you could make use of several of them.

(I'm interested in Pixelmator if there is an iPad version, but not if it is subscription only. We'll find out in a couple of weeks, I guess... I presume that all of these apps will get "major updates" on January 28.)

I like the new icons, but I’m curious what’s going to happen for those of us who don’t subscribe because we already own most of these. Especially regarding the “premium features” for pages, numbers, and keynote. I’d want whatever that is, but I don’t want to pay $12.99 a month for it, because I already have Final Cut, logic, and Pixelmator pro

"unlocks premium AI features and content across the iWork apps Keynote, Pages, and Numbers across the iPhone,"

I thought Numbers and Pages were free. With all the features unlocked. Is that not the case anymore?
It’s not the case anymore. “Premium” features now require the subscription. You probably won’t need them, for now.

For $12.99 / month - it's a bargain. With all the updates that have been free over the years, you can't expect them to just give it away forever. They have to pay employees to write the code to build these apps. It's a better deal than Adobe as I suspect you can use it on multiple devices on your apple account vs Adobe you need a license for each computer. If you are already paying for logic/final cut for iPad, it's only a couple bucks more for access to everything.

At some point they were going to charge for a new version of Logic and Final Cut anyway, so that's what $5-600 ish... so really you are just splitting that cost over 6/7 ( 🙂 ) years, plus the other apps like mainstage and pixelmator bring the value up to what $1K ?, so really you are just splitting your payments over 10 years....
