Following the announcement of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro today, Apple has introduced a new collection of cases and accessories on its online store. The central feature of these accessories is support for MagSafe on iPhone 12.

With MagSafe, the new line of cases will automatically snap onto the back of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, making for super easy application. Charging accessories will do the same, leading to ultra-simple charging of up to 15W.

Shoppers should note that the accessories listed in this article are not available to purchase yet, and will likely launch at the same time that iPhone pre-orders do, starting this Friday for iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. On November 6, pre-orders will go up for the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

To start, there's a Silicone Case with MagSafe for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. It's available in Plum, Deep Navy, Kumquat, Cyprus Green, Pink Citrus, White, Black, and (PRODUCT)Red. It's priced at $49.00.

The same Silicone Case with MagSafe is available for the iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 12 mini, and in the same colors. They're also priced at $49.00.

The Clear Case with MagSafe is available for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and for the iPhone 12 mini. It's priced at $49.00.

A new accessory this year is the iPhone Leather Wallet with MagSafe, priced at $59.00. It comes in Baltic Blue, California Poppy, Saddle Brown, and Black. This holds your ID and credit cards on the back of your iPhone 12. The Leather Wallet with MagSafe isn't available to buy yet.

Lastly, the basic MagSafe Charger is priced at $39.00. Apple also announced the MagSafe Duo Charger today, which has space for the iPhone 12 and Apple Watch, but it's not yet up on Apple.com.

I hope the MagSafe cases have an opening at the bottom to allow the phones to be charged with a lightning cable - for those who do not opt for wireless charging. Unlike the previous Apple cases for iPhones, the MagSafe cases seem to be fully cover the bottom edge of the phone.
Of course it does. As you an see in the product photos it's the same opening as previous years as the opening at the bottom isn't just for charging but for the speakers too.

I hate that it covers the bottom, I love how the bottom is open on the 6-11 cases so swiping home feels clean
What covers the bottoms? The clear case and silicone case have an open bottom just like past years models so nothing obstructing one from swiping home.

Leather was mentioned, I'll just assume right now they are coming soon.
It was mentioned already, can I SLIP the phone snug inside these case rather than relying on just a darn magnet. If not, I am not a fan of that what so ever.

Yes dirt and other junk can easily slip inside. Over time, I can see myself holding the phone in this case and the phone simply falling out.

Are there only leather wallets? I don't understand that a company that claims to be environmentally responsible sells leather products. Animal welfare is clearly not on their mind yet.

Things like dust, sand and lint is not going to make the case fall off. You’d have to have HUGE amounts of detritus between the phone and case and I’m not sure if even that would break the magnetic bond. The only way I could see getting an amount of stuff between the case and phone, would be if you took the case off, poured a cup of stuff into the case then tried to put your phone in it.

These MagSafe cases are still going to have a tight fit on the device. One thing that will be similar, is how you will have to pry the case from one end or edge in order to release it from the phone. In order to break the magnetic bond, much like with the iPad Pro’s Magic Keyboard, you have to pull from one edge to get it to pop off. This will also be true of the MagSafe charging puck.

Ok, cool. I didn't know how strong these magnets are.
I've never used this before when it comes to the Apple products.

Will the MagSafe wallet pass-through charging, though?

Exactly. I can’t find this anywhere. If not, then what’s the point? I can get a cheaper and more functional third party wallet case from any number of companies.

It’s on the product page. You have to remove the wallet. And that makes perfect sense since the wallet is shielded.

Thanks!

In that case, it kind of defeats the purpose of having a magnetically attached case, though.

From charging perspective maybe. But from the wallet perspective no. It’s totally removable. I don’t plan on leaving the wallet on my phone 24/7.

Interesting. I have a wallet case and actually view the fact that it’s difficult to remove as a bonus (so I won’t misplace it or have to go looking for two things instead of one on my way out the door). But you make a really good point for those who want the ability to combine and separate the two often! Enjoy!

I love the fell of the Apple silicon cases but last year, the iPhone 11, I went with ESR's silicon case version.
They are awesome! Same feel, fit perfectly, don't wear out as much as the Apple ones and cost about $13USD.
Only limited by the amount of color choices - there's only three.
The ESR clear case is also pretty decent - the Apple ones are hard plastic and feel like crap.
Just ordered three new iPhone 12 Pro Max cases from ESR for under $50 shipped.

other than the obvious fact the iPhone XS doesn't support the new 15W fast Qi charging, is there any reason these cases couldn't find their way into the wider iPhone lineup? Apple states the new Magsafe charger is compatible with all phones that support Qi, so it would just charge at the standard 7.5W rate. I really like the Wallet idea, but am not thinking of upgrading from my XS just yet...

I'm sure a third party will make a really nice magnetic money clip/wallet that will fit 3-5 cards plus cash. I personally need 5+ cards everywhere I go, so maybe that does it. Would be nice...

Alright, I’ll bite. What 5 cards do you have to carry around with you everywhere?

I have 4 cards in my wallet right now... debit, work door badge, TX ID, and health insurance. Unless I’m going to work, I can really get by with just debit and TX ID.

Apple didn't waste any time before getting these out. I guess thy must be happy with what they created.
