Got through to the Mac Pro specs?

Nice machine, though its going to be expensive. Shame they didn't include the retina display with the regular macbook pro - though i'm sure its coming in the next few iterations.

I noticed the HDMI port.. again, so much for Thunderbolt and Apple's claim of "One cable to rule them all".... a bit disappointing TBH.

I expect this port is for the benefit of video editors who need a monitor output.

Hey guys! If I were you, I'd wait a year or so (painful, I know) to get the retina/ssd MacBook Pro. Right now components are expensive, but the price should drop significantly in the next year. Knowing Apple, by this time next year, the price for a 15" Retina MBP will be $1799 tops and make its way into the mainstream models.

I'm really excited about this new 15" MBP. Looks awesome. It's the new benchmark for portable computing!

At least that's how I see it.
Can anyone explain me, whats the difference between the macbook pro retina and normal, it supports only 256 gb flashmemmory? not more? what about ssd 512gb?

That's all I needed to know. I know how Apple's current retina displays work, I was asking based on the "rumors" that were leaked earlier on in the year, that suggested you could change the resolution to provide more (non-retina) screen space, or choose a crisper, pixel doubled resolution (with less physical space). I have my answer.

Just to be clear: You CAN do this. You can absolutely do it within an Application. Will there be an easy way to do it on the global level? Maybe. Maybe not. I don't know how much it matters. You can only shrink UI elements down so far before they become unusable. For example, 1680x1050 on a 15" borders on unusable. If you've ever seen a 1920x1080 display being rendered in actual pixel space on a 15" it's pretty hard to work with. Not impossible, but not exactly ideal.

Because all apps feature full-screen mode, it's a bit of a non-issue. If you need to reclaim the UI space you can just switch to a full screen app. We are really talking about how many pixels the Menu Bar takes up. Everything else is app dependent.

I love the new MBP, but I was kind of hoping that I could have squeezed a 1.8" drive in there for larger amounts of data, and then the SSD for the OS and apps. I don't think I can afford 768gb of flash memory!!

OMG macbook air STILL no blu ray drive .... looks like a windows laptop for me!

They have updated the MacPros!

USB 2.0 still, no redesign on the case, graphics cards do not look updated...its not a pretty picture...other than new configurations of the available choices I'm not sure alot has been updated...

Why o why Apple did you have to do this...this makes it very hard to consider this machine for the money.

I thought the keynote at WWDC was great (was watching for the Mac Pro), the updates they announced were very impressive.

I have a 17" 2011 beast with 16GB RAM, 240 SSD (Agility 3) and the 750 HD installed. I may sell to go to the new 15. Let me know if you're interested.

Sorry . . . it was more meant as a joke. I already got my slap on the wrist for posting it.

Give it some time. It took a while for MBP 17 to get refreshed last time around as well.

True, I want to hold my breath for that since it took about 5 months or something like that.

I'm not talking about in applications, such as web browsers, I'm talking specifically about the "rumors" that were posted on here previously.

Once again, I have my answer.

The rest of your post continues to be irrelevant to what I was asking.

Pre Thunderbolt Cinema Display

The big question for me is, will the retina MBP still work with a pre thunderbolt cinema display? Magsafe vs Magsafe 2 and mini display port still available via the thunderbolt port being the big questions. A new MBP and new cinema display would be a bit of a hit on the old wallet.

Edit: Now I can get into the store I see there is a magsafe 1 > 2 adapter for £9, and the mini display port vga, dvi etc. adapters suggest it still puts it out over mini display port

First of all congrats on the LIVE coverage to the team! Very nice work.

New MBP looks sharp. Sir Johny Ive still thinks ahead of his time and I think he could do more but the tech and the corporate bunch is still holding him back.

On the other hand sad to see Apple neglect the MacPro line and the professional software dev altogether. I guess that is all behind us now and time to move on. Shame.

Nevertheless it's nice to see some new and exciting stuff from Apple.

Cheers

iMac update?

Can anyone give me some input on when the hell the iMac will be updated? I've been holding off for a while. Huge let down.
