I'm probably in the minority here, but I was hoping for some more distinct design changes to the MacBook Pro.

In no way am I implying that the previous generation design was poor, in fact, I love it; neither am I saying that retina and the thinness of the new generation is not much of a design change, it's a great achievement. (Hope that made any sense lol).

To me, at first glance it looks like the now previous gen MBPs until you see the screen and how slim it is.

Sounds like you're wanting change for change's sake then. Personally, I think the current design is close to perfect, so a thinner version gets no complaints from me.

The only thing I dislike about the current version (and all Apple's current displays) is the highly reflective screen, due to the untreated glass they put in front of the display. But this time they mentioned a significant reduction in glare, so that is something to be happy about too! The website says:

This Retina display doesn’t sit behind a layer of glass, it is the glass. Which means you get all the benefits of a state-of-the-art display — vibrant colors, high contrast, and wide viewing angles — with very little glare. So there’s more to see, and even less to distract you from your work.
Finally Apple! :)

No iPhone(its June), no Apple TV store, no new iMac, Mac Pro, mini iPad. Fail, fail, fail. And what about a mid-range Apple laptop or update to Ping?

They can't do everything in one update, and oh by the way, they never have! Who gives a crap about Ping anyway?

WOW nice! the cheapest Retina is only 1999 with educational discount, thats 200 off! and you also get $100 gift card. This sealed the deal for me. For the normal MBP, you only get 100 off from educational discount so its 1699.

Oh god i was waiting all time for retina display Macbook pro but 2199  !!!! that is tooooooo much .
Going to settle with 1199 model with good external display and connect through HDMI

Only problem is the New MacBook 15.4 is a separate product. They are still selling the 13/15inch models they currently have with just an IVY update. Not the new ports.....

The big question for me is, will the retina MBP still work with a pre thunderbolt cinema display? Magsafe vs Magsafe 2 and mini display port still available via the thunderbolt port being the big questions. A new MBP and new cinema display would be a bit of a hit on the old wallet.

With the resolution quality on the retina, it would be a pointless to plug to a bigger display.

Don't forget, if you're buying one for education purposes, education promo allegedly starts tomorrow, not today.

Edit: guess it does start now.

macbook pro

think ill consider a new pro (non-retina) or new air with student discount, both are more than enough for me. Shame the retina mac is so expensive in the UK, although it looks like a nice piece of kit. Time to get rid of my beloved blackbook...

There better be a way to replace that SSD drive at will, otherwise that lonesome fixed drive will make that laptop a FAILURE.

I have no intentions of being stuck with only one drive and a set capacity.

It better be a standard 2.5" drive.

I need a bit of help guys (and girls). I'm contemplating on getting the base model Retina MBP as that's the best I could try to afford.

However, as it comes with only a 256GB SSD, does this mean I am stuck with only 256GB? Would it not be possible to add a secondary standard hard drive? I don't wish to use an external drive as a means of adding additional storage space.

Why do SSD's have to be so expensive!! :D

Thanks

Everyone who is moaning about the NEW 15.4 inch MacBook.....

You can still buy the 13 or 15 inch model currently sold. The only thing they changed was the IVY chipset and graphics. Otherwise they are the same.

The New Macbook Pro is a different model.

So their $500 ipad has a better resolution than their entire computing lineup until you spend $2200?

And I want to do is have two readable pages beside each other in word or excel.

What a total let down.

Not just their entire computing lineup, but that of every other OEM's laptop in existence.

Not to blow your mind or anything, but the battery, space, processor, and other requirements needed to power a retina display make it either unfeasible for some designs (MBA) or jack the price up. Just like economies of scale are finally increasing the adoption of SSD technology that has been around for ages, you're going to have to wait for this technology to come down to your price point. But I guess it's more fun to throw a tantrum.

Mac pro?

On the Apple store it says 'NEW' Mac pro but there is no thunderbolt?? New?? What a load of **** We have been waiting how long for this?? A company that has over 100bn In the bank and they cant update one of their product after 2 years?? Come on Apple get with the programme!

Ooh, you can add an Apple remote again when ordering a MBP.

When I was going through the process about a month ago, they'd removed the option to purchase one with it. Although maybe they just didn't have any in stock or something, IDK. I assumed it was because they had removed Front Row, however. I wonder why it's back (the remote).
