I have an iPad Air that i bought earlier this year, but i wouldn't mind getting the new iPad Mini since i still use
my old iPad Mini 2 for other purposes that i find the Air a little heavy for. (like for an eReader for example.)

Support for the 2nd Gen Apple Pencil is a big plus too.

...That and i kinda wanna replace my iPad Mini 2 with a new iPad Mini since it has some display damage (the backlight i think?) & i dunno how long it'll hold out before it finally gives out.

This is definitely the product I'm most excited about. Even more cool that we can order today when it was rumoured to not even debut until next month.

Was kind of sad at first the usual silver option is gone. But that starlight looks interesting.

Still bittersweet as I wished they had kept the smaller form factor. Anyone have any good pictures of all the colors? There doesn't seem to be a lot of pictures on Apples site.

Edit: Ordered a 256 grey cellular. The starlite one looked interesting as I like the white backed iPhones, but with the ipad mini it looks like the aluminum wraps around instead of having a SS band, so the white kind of looks weird.

Crazy how the both the just announced iPad mini AND CHEAP iPad with A13 both get centre stage but the iPad Air I purchased earlier this year can’t do it after iOS 15 update ??
Seems this feature might be related to the wide angle camera more than the CPU - but come on apple what an insult !
The camera position in landscape is the only thing that really annoys me with my iPad Air, and I think apple know it - let’s just up sell them to an iPad Pro … not working for me.
I'm sure if enough people complain Apple will give in and let everybody download a wide-angle camera for their iPad Airs.

Well... the availability seems to be non-existing for the cellular one... ships in one month... even the 256GB WiFi version isn't available in most countries.

So, no pre-order for me...
I ordered a cellular 256GB one, they must have sold out. It should get here in 10 days.

Hi quick question my 12.9 iPad Pro and iPhone X are both using 160gb of storage roughly, if i got the 64gb mini as i really just want to read and watch stuff on it, will it auto push stuff to iCloud or should i get bigger?

edit** I have 200gb iCloud and only using 90GB
My experience with iCloud is that there is no way to predict what will be kept locally and what will not. It will just manage to leave space available. But even when the SSD is far larger than the space taken by the whole iCloud, it will most likely not keep anything locally.
So basically, I cannot rely on iCloud to have a document ready to browse offline in my next train ride, flight, or what not. So, I would not take decision on the amount of storage needed based solely on the space required to fit the whole iCloud.
Now, in general, if I were buying a Mini now, I would have a hard time getting 64 Gb...

Love everything about it…except the price and storage options.
64/256 seems quite out of step with everything else being released.
128 min would’ve been the ideal start point at the price.
The total to upgrade from a 3rd Gen Air gets up there once you go up to 256gb, add a 2nd Gen Pencil and a case.

Pre-ordered! I'm ignoring the other products they've announced today, but the iPad mini with the iPad Air design is what I have been waiting for.

Thanks, generally I wouldn’t be worried about aceasing stuff as i would always have my phone to Hotspot too, just the thought of Getting a 64gb goes against everything i would usually think, but do i really need 256gb on a device for streaming and reading i have the bigger iPad if i need it, suppose i have 30 days to return if i get 64 and it is full after 2 weeks…

Might be tempted if it didn’t cost £140(!!!) for the storage increase. What the ever loving Christ, Apple. 64gb is tiny and would run out in days.

I’ve just seen the charge for the same storage upgrade on the iPad Air is £200! Lol, this is why I haven’t bought an Apple product in years.

I don’t know if this speaks to how good Apple is at marketing/selling their wares, or how bad I am.

I wasn’t interested in anything today. No upgrades this year. Just enjoyed going through the comments during the presentation.

Long story short - I ordered a Mini 64 Starlight. My 12.9 Pro that I bought last year is going to my wife.

The Pro is amazing, and I have the Smart Keyboard Folio (or whatever they called it) and a Pencil2. It was fun for awhile, but to be honest, it was too big and heavy to really enjoy using it. Then my wife mentioned the other day that she’d love to get an iPad for teaching. So she got a surprise today, and I’ll be getting something I’ll actually use more often!

64 is small. But I just checked my phone’s storage, and I’m using 70GB. I won’t use more than half the things I have on the iPad, so I should be good. Really didn’t want to spend an extra $150 for storage I probably won’t use.

FINALLY! Surprised Apple didn't cheap out on this either, its got it all. Ordered a 64GB WIFI in Starlight the minute they went up. Delivers Sept 24th! Got this instead of the iPhone 13, which is the definition of an incremental "S" update. I'll keep my 12 and wait for the 14.

Who is the iPad Mini aimed at? The best I can come up with is a deferred parenting device or ebook reader.

At pilots to strap to their legs and for doctors to keep in their pockets, apparently. Both of which would be difficult with an iPad traditional.

And at me. It has a better resolution than a phone, is not too big or too heavy to comfortable handhold for any length of time, and it easily fits in most bags.

For me a traditional iPad or bigger only manages the first of those while an iPhone only manages the rest. I find an iPhone is uncomfortable for prolonged reading because of the smaller screen area and the constant scrolling. And a traditional iPad is just too uncomfortable to hold for any length of time, with little benefit from the greater screen size.

Like AppliedMicro, I too use mine on public transport. So size and comfort in the hand and being used in a relatively small space matter a lot.

So who is a 9.7" device aimed at?

The traditional form factor seems more aimed at being used at home or in an office, where it is placed on a desk or in a lap when you sit on a couch. When it was released it was an alternative to netbooks (ask you grandparents) after all. But I have my MacBook to use in those situations.

Now I buy a Mini! Everything is good about it, including the USB-C... everything nice... well, except for that price.

But the price increase was probably to be expected:

#1. there is a global price increase and massive skyrocketing USA inflation

#2. there is an ongoing chip shortage from China to Timbuktu, so of course the shortage of microprocessors will jack up the price of all electronic goods

Oh well, I've been saving up for months. If I skip this Mini.... I might have to wait another 3 years for the next iPad Mini.

Im showing all colors 64GB WIFI deliver Sept 24th sill. Interesting though, look at the engraving options. Says delivers Sept 16th.

That's cellular models that are slipping. I'm glad I ordered immediaitely after the show.

That is the Apple Pencil that ships Sept 16th. Its confusing how its displayed on the web page, right by the engraving option.
