I skipped the iPhone this year and did the Mini upgrade instead. My iPhone mostly lives in my pocket as the central connection device for my watch and as a quick device to peek at when I dont have my mini with me. I take my mini when I go places, leave my large pro mostly at home and my iMac in my office. As little as I look at my actual phone at this point I didn't need anything more than this mini upgrade. Most of this is due to needing readers as I age. Having a mini sized display I can forget the readers while I'm out and about.

Takeway of the day: 64Gb is not right for an iPhone; for an iPad ? yeah, it will do just fine... Go figure.
Yeah it makes no sense for a tablet to have only 64gb in this day and age. It’s really an odd choice that seems to be driven by marketing so they could hit a certain price point. But at least give some people some additional choices both in the middle and beyond the upper limit they are offering. I don’t know why they are not doing that.

Hi quick question my 12.9 iPad Pro and iPhone X are both using 160gb of storage roughly, if i got the 64gb mini as i really just want to read and watch stuff on it, will it auto push stuff to iCloud or should i get bigger?

edit** I have 200gb iCloud and only using 90GB

Who is the iPad Mini aimed at? The best I can come up with is a deferred parenting device or ebook reader.
I use it every place most use a phone with some exceptions. My phone is still my main camera, never take photos with the mini.

You would likely want to go bigger. I'm not sure what you use the space for so its hard to say for sure but if its iCloud related you can opt not to sync some items. I have a ton of things on mine but only use about 15Gb on each of my devices because most everything is in the cloud.

The 64GB base is a real bummer... iCloud yes... but still...

Noteworthy is also that they sticked with the high DPI of the mini, however not the aspect ratio:
8.3-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit Multi-Touch display with IPS technology
2266-by-1488 resolution at 326 pixels per inch (ppi) -> was 2048-by-1536

Also, dimensions and weight are almost exactly same as the mini 5.

There also seems to be Dual-SIM (eSIM and physical possible)... may be of interest for people who travel a lot.

Apple did a great job on the mini...

Crazy how the both the just announced iPad mini AND CHEAP iPad with A13 both get centre stage but the iPad Air I purchased earlier this year can’t do it after iOS 15 update ??
Seems this feature might be related to the wide angle camera more than the CPU - but come on apple what an insult !
The camera position in landscape is the only thing that really annoys me with my iPad Air, and I think apple know it - let’s just up sell them to an iPad Pro … not working for me.

Most of the stuff on my devices is podcasts, music, imesssage attachments. I also have macbook that shares the iCloud too. I dont really need anything local on the mini as it would be stuff like marvel unlimited comics, nyt app, Disney + Netflix etc i was just curious if iCloud would just keep podcasts and attachments etc in the cloud and only download on demand or would it just fill up the mini when i logged into iCloud? Thanks :)

64GB is awfully tight IMO. You can NOT use all 256GB, but you can't ask for more if you run out of 64GB.

Like many others, I've been waiting for a Mini like this for a long time. Ordered my first Space Gray device; really disappointed there's no silver option.
Yeah, I was really wanting a silver too since I regret getting the MBA in space gray. Didn’t think they would get rid of the most basic device color. Oh well, the purple (my favorite color) almost makes up for it, but I would rather have that be my iphone color than my ipad color.

The lack of 128gb option is more disappointing. I got talked down from getting the 256gb option since I’m also getting cellular. Since I’m a non-creative and we can use usb-c external storage I should be okay, but I’m still disappointed apple couldn’t throw us a bone after they gave a storage bump for the budget ipad.

Tough decision. Ipad mini or upgrading my IphoneX to 13MaxPro. Mainly intended for reading documents (scientific paper pdfs)....

While not silver the Starlight color does look to be more of a Titanium color than an outright Gold.

Even so I’m not a fan, honestly. I’ve never liked gold devices. Silver was the ideal color. Maybe in person it looks better, but I still prefer purple over it.

You had someone asking about iPad Air 4 versus iPad mini 6 which one to get and then I see that A15 on the mini. Insane. Apple now diffidently considers the iPad mini more important model now. o_O
Timing. I'm sure the Air will be updated soon. It's already been discounted many places and as soon as inventory and distribution channels are cleared out Apple will roll out an A15 model. Probably later this month.
