Exchange Rate!

Apple FYI

$99 does NOT equal £99.

So why is Apple TV £99 over in the UK where the current exchange rate makes that $152.

I WILL NOT BE RIPPED OFF. I WILL NOT BE BUYING AN APPLE TV.

Crap !

Sorry, Apple this should have had an iOS operating system with apps support playing app games on my 46 HD Tv using an iphone or itouch as controllers
Ultimate Fail !!!

So tell me again, how the Apple TV can compete with the WD TV HD Live Plus and other devices?

Why does Apple come out with a great design, superb UI, but ruin the functionality?

No wireless. Less space than a nomad. Lame.

at least for the iPod the simplicity of the UI and limited feature set were an asset. Simple = functional.

I'm still not convinced this is true of the :apple:TV, but time will tell. I for one have enough iTunes video content that this is a good option to play it on my TV.

That 2!

Because with Apple it isn't about X number of features, it is how well the features they have are implemented and how well it integrates with what you may already have.

The WD TV HD Live Plus looks nice, but does will it integrate with my iTunes library on my Mac or PC? Does it integrate with my iPad and iPhone?

Once again, apple screws it's international customers.

Can someone tell me how $99 USD translates to £99 GBP.

NO.

For the ability to stream Netflix, this seems pretty cool. Renting TV shows and videos, no. But a dedicated Netflix device, I'm all for that. But only 720p? WTF (facepalm)

The biggest problem with the device is that most blu-ray players sold today do the same thing. In fact, the Netflix instant streaming is a much better deal than anything on iTunes and is probably the best feature of the device.

The thing that disappoints me the most is that its still a "just another box" solution to hook into your home theater. I was really hoping for something more central and integrated. My current Apple TV needs three remotes just to get things set up to watch a movie and with the new version nothing has changed...

Still no 1080i or p. Crud!!! Come on Steve J, the HD standard is 1080i60, p24, or p30 (with some new cams doing 1080p60, but no other support for it yet). Most new HD sets are now 1080p60 at least, and most now oversample to 120 or even 240 (actually kind of useless, but can make 1080p24 an even multiple of the HD TV's refresh rate - but most TVs persistence is less than 120Hz, so who cares).

Any way, Apple seems to me to be falling behind in the HD arena: no 1080 anything for Apple TV or iTunes video rentals, no BlueRay on their computers, and only limited support for BlueRay authoring in Final Cut Studio.

I can sort of understand the BlueRay player deal (Steve is likely correct the future is online delivery when internet speeds for the average consumer catches up; though I think by that time, we'll have BlueRay 4K); But limiting to 720p is not wise imho.

Buy a WD TV HD Live Plus and enjoy much more than the Apple TV can currently do.

How do I rent new movies?

When that new realease is on AppleTV for $5 and not on streaming Netflix yet, how does the WD TV let me see it? Do they have their own rental store?

And how well does it play with my iPhoto library and albums?

I wonder if future Apple TV updates could enable support for HDMI-CEC?

THAT would be cool.

No more late fees

I won't be able to resist the $99 price tag and love the idea of renting with a few clicks and not having to return the DVDs after.

My one concern is how long does the rental last? I'm accustomed to a multi-day rental where I might watch the DVD, then later on my kids might watch it.

Stop moaning about it only doing 720p NOW!

This is a steaming device and at current average internet speeds streaming at 1080p would NOT be possible in most cases.

no apps?

Biggest bummer is not opening this thing up to developers:confused:

Even if it is not iOS (which I could never imagine because of the multi-touch) just give devs access to it and they can make it work better! Steve, don't be surprised it is not a hot-seller and stop selling the apple tv potential short!

On another note, it is cheap so I will likely get one;)

Will I be able to connect it to my DVI only TV via an adaptor?

One new bit is that movie rentals are for 30 days. Unlimited views. No having to finish a movie within 24 or 48 hours or being able to only watch it once.

For me and my wife who often start a movie but can't finish it for a couple days or even a week with time constraints and kids, this would make rentals more appealing.
