If you people are going to hate on Apple, then at least hate right.
This whole thread is just one bad take after another.
Apple has never said that ads are bad, but that the tracking behind them is problematic. Notice how ATT doesn't specifically block ads per se, but it does give users the choice as to whether they wish to be tracked across apps or not.
This is simply Apple putting their own unique spin on things. Allow developers to get their apps in front of users, while continuing to protect the privacy of users.
If you people are going to hate on Apple, then at least hate right.
Even better, vote with their wallets to send Apple a strong message. I'm sure happiness will be found with phones/tablets from Apple competitors.
Trouble is, seems people will not stand up and do that. Lack of agency, I guess.
I am puzzled as to how anyone can interpret Apple doing ads as meaning that they do not care about user privacy. The Apple ads are not about privacy, they are about $$$$ - Apple sees another aspect they can milk their consumers.

Care to elaborate?
And...?Two separate issues.
1. Apple places ads to generate sales. ($$$$)
2. Apple collects user data and does “X” with it. (Data Privacy)
Nah ads are bad no matter what. Tracking ads are worse, but in a phone you possibly paid four figures for there should not be these ads. No ads manipulating app store searches to give you worse results, no ad notifications asking you to subscribe to Apple Arcade, no ad notifications asking no you to subscribe to Apple TV, nothing. It’s all very annoying.People seem to have this "death to all ads and anyone dealing with them is evil" mentality, when really, the issue isn't so much the ads themselves, but the tracking that goes on behind the scenes that make personalised ads possible when Apple has been more than open and aboveboard about this (which is more than can be said for Facebook and Google).
Huh?And...?
How does any of this run counter to my earlier point about Apple using data that they collected themselves? They don't send any of this data to third parties, nor do they use third party data. Apple Pay, HealthKit and HomeKit data is also exempt from this.
Apple defines tracking as an app following you across apps and websites from other companies with the goal of creating a personalised profile. Since third-party apps and websites are involved, the implication is there is also data transfer / mixing / crossing present.
Apple’s ads business is based on collecting first-party data from Apple-owned apps. No data is transferred or crossed with third-parties in order to create personalized user profiles. In addition, cohort data isn’t compromised so that third-parties are able to discern more granular information about individuals included in the cohorts.
You can also turn off tracking in the settings page.
Apple is in the right when saying it’s apps don't fall under the scope of ATT since its apps (i.e. the App Store) aren’t doing what ATT is aimed at alerting Apple users about. The way Apple defines tracking is also in-line with how the World Wide Web Consortium defines tracking.
People seem to have this "death to all ads and anyone dealing with them is evil" mentality, when really, the issue isn't so much the ads themselves, but the tracking that goes on behind the scenes that make personalised ads possible when Apple has been more than open and aboveboard about this (which is more than can be said for Facebook and Google).
I feel people really need to get off this Apple-hating bandwagon and have more reasoned takes on what Apple does. Of course as a publicly traded company, there will always be profits involved, but that shouldn't translate to automatically branding anything that Apple does as being bad.
If it's anyone who is in the right position and has the right incentives to do ads right, it's Apple.
Think I check the AppStore once a month to update what few apps I have, if they haven’t updated automatically.
With everything subscription based, I couldn’t care less what’s available anymore. Apple and greedy devs (not devs with reasonable prices in order to keep updates coming and bring in a well deserved profit) have ruined what used to be exciting place to explore.
So ads don’t bother me 😂
It would be cool if we knew what the actual impact was.
Apple will never tell.
What would you guess that would be, beyond other app store applications getting more exposure to people who might be interested in using them?
What does that have to do with privacy? Be specific.
What?
I’m not talking about privacy. I’m talking about ad placement to enhance sales. Did it actually work.

What do you believe Apple is doing with user data that impacts privacy? And do you you have anything that corroborates your belief?
Speaking of this, I recently subscribed to Hulu with ads and opted out of tracking so I receive "random" ones. I've now seen a musical advertisement 3 times that sings the glories of pubic hair and personal grooming. I feel like they are doing this to me on on purpose so I enable tracking or switch to ad-free. 😂I want to see targeted ads, not random BS I don't care about. The worst one I ever got was when I ordered something with my Apple Card, and got a popup after the order if I wanted to apply for Apple Card!
