I bought an unlocked phone, and just put the sim in from my 11. My cell service was almost non-existent until I got a 5G sim card. Was not aware that was going to be an issue.
5G sim card? Didn't know that was a thing. Good to know when I upgrade.

It shows how little Apple understand the problem though. It's not green at all, it's grey, but a camera will pick it up as green due to exposure or some such. Because customers are sending photographs of it looking green, they think it's green. It aint.

For those of you who don't have this problem, you probably do I'm afraid. Best not to look for it.

Finally you guys made an article about it. More than 13 pages with people having this problem on Apple Discussion and 10 pages on Macrumors Forums. I too have this problem and it’s very bad. Make the OLED look like an LCD in dark scenes. And the flickering just makes it unbearable to watch anything with dark scenes.

Hoping an update will fix it. I notice the slight yellow hue.

Ques. Are these displays different from the XS Max? Other prior models??

Now I don't know if its coincidence...I got the Pro Max on Fri. On Saturday I had one of the worst headaches I've had in a long time, by Sat night I was in bed with an icepack. Again on Sunday and a slight one last night.

My usage hasn't been that much up so far compared to the old phone. Again I have no idea..I feel ok now but my phone usage so far today is WAY down. Also, the weather also had dramatically changed in the past week (sometimes I get headaches with that also)

Kind of wondering in the back of my head if some fast paced flickering that I can barely see is triggering it?
(Maybe I'm thinking too much...which also might cause my to hurt. 😆 😐)

What carrier are you on? Some have "highly recommended" it and some haven't needed to at all.

If you're in the US, Verizon and T-Mobile have seemed to be the ones of concern:

Verizon seems to be mostly affecting their 5G UWB service. I moved my already-active 4G SIM over with no problem and got 5G: Section 5: https://www.verizon.com/support/4g-sim-card-faqs/

Initially T-Mobile said for 5G, everyone would need the R15 SIMs, but now they've backtracked and said TM9263s are fine, too: https://www.t-mobile.com/support/devices/latest-sim-for-great-network-experience

TM9263 and R15 dropped support for 2G devices, so there is a bit going on behind the scenes when it comes to differences in SIMs.

Of course, carrier stores may or may not have gotten the latest communications on the matter or may be sharing bad information, so that can't be helping either. I suspect if one is using an older SIM on either carrier, they may have some trouble with 5G.

What carrier are you on? For many, you can just move your SIM over with no problems, but others have rolled out updated SIM cards for 5G service. Perhaps the one you were using previously was a few generations behin

Verizon. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Just got the sim last year.

Neither did I. But, it definitely made a difference.
Yeah, Verizon has been a bit screwy with who needs to upgrade and who doesn't - mine moved over just fine, but I'm only getting their 5G Nationwide service anyway (haven't upgraded plans to get 5G UWB) - I may get it swapped to a 5G one for grins, but mine's been working well enough so far.

So, I’m wondering if this addresses the green tint/cast as well? My two 12 mini screens have a green tint, on all brightness levels. Very visible when viewing photos, then the skin tone of people have a greenish tint, very ugly, the colours just aren’t accurate. Also the greys have a green cast.

Unlike display mate who are most likely paid by apple and talk out of their ass, they said the iPhone 12 pro models have the best display ever on a smart phone. 😂😂😂😂

Dxomark calls it how it is.

And yet still no article on the MacBook Pro 16" inability to use 2 screens simultaneously without it sounding like it's going to explode. And that thread is 175 - (175!!!!!) pages long.

That news article is 3 years away. 😂

If your phone shows 5G...you SHOULD be okay. Mine never showed 5G with the old sim.

Yeah, I THOUGHT I would be ok swapping my sim from XS Max to 12 PM, I actually got an immediate text from Verizon about my "non- 5G sim card" I also noticed the 5G logo on the new sim card.

Anyway, it took a good 40-45 min on Fri to register the new phone, new sim. I assume a lot could have been upgrading at the same time.

At least it’s only when “brightness is 90% or less”.
Yeah, seriously. The brightness on mine is usually around 15-20%. I don't need to stare into the sun when I look at my phone.

That being said, not seeing any kind of tinting issues on the standard iPhone 12, nor signal issues either.

The green / glow in very dark backgrounds is likely a hardware issue, people should just return the phone or demand a replacement. Happened with the LG V30 when LG started making OLED phone displays, same on the Pixel 2 XL. Some older Samsungs suffered from it. Obviously current and older OLED iPhones suffer from it. Just a bad OLED is likely what is happening. My 12 Pro and 12 Mini do not have this issue. My 12 Pro Max that I returned did have it.
