The green / glow in very dark backgrounds is likely a hardware issue, people should just return the phone or demand a replacement. Happened with the LG V30 when LG started making OLED phone displays, same on the Pixel 2 XL. Some older Samsungs suffered from it. Obviously current and older OLED iPhones suffer from it. Just a bad OLED is likely what is happening. My 12 Pro and 12 Mini do not have this issue. My 12 Pro Max that I returned did have it.
Do you think it's a hardware issue for the green shift if it only occurs between like 10-20% brightness? That's when it triggers on my 12 Pro Max. I also have the raised blacks issue at pretty much most brightness settings that aren't 100% (only at 100% will black pixels actually turn off).

Software fix for something only some users are experiencing? Oh Lordy.

It's also possible that some people just haven't noticed the issue, yet.

How much HDR content with total-black scenes are people watching?

The flicker doesn't happen when my brightness is up past a certain %.
The flicker doesn't happen when my brightness is turned down past a certain %.

When at the "correct" brightness, it doesn't always flicker. Like, the pixels might be on for a few seconds, and then switch off. A user may not have noticed the "pure black" pixels were still on for a moment.

I know what to look for, so I can always see it. Other people may not know what to look for, and don't even notice it.

I hope and think it is a software issue because it is not consistent across all video players. YouTube App seems to be the worst. After updating to 14.2, along with the flickering, if I raise or lower the volume in an all black video, there’s a white streak across the top screen. Netflix, applets+, twitch, do not have this issue. If I use YouTube on safari, flickering does not occur for the most part. It’ll flicker for a second then stop. The white streak does not occur as well. Does anyone have the white streak issue as well? I’ve attached two screenshots.

It’s not an issue. I don’t have a 5G sim and don’t live in a 5G area. My LTE coverage has improved dramatically and even the same LTE speeds went from 60Mbs to 180Mbs with my iPhone 12.

So no. It’s clearly not a blanket issue that affects everyone.
Did someone say it was a blanket issue that affects everyone? I didn’t. And...to say it's not an issue. It was an issue I had.
Does everyone lack reading comprehension? No. It's not a blanket issue that affects everyone. Is it your issue? Yes.

What carrier are you on? Some have "highly recommended" it and some haven't needed to at all.

If you're in the US, Verizon and T-Mobile have seemed to be the ones of concern:

Verizon seems to be mostly affecting their 5G UWB service. I moved my already-active 4G SIM over with no problem and got 5G: Section 5: https://www.verizon.com/support/4g-sim-card-faqs/

Initially T-Mobile said for 5G, everyone would need the R15 SIMs, but now they've backtracked and said TM9263s are fine, too: https://www.t-mobile.com/support/devices/latest-sim-for-great-network-experience

TM9263 and R15 dropped support for 2G devices, so there is a bit going on behind the scenes when it comes to differences in SIMs.

Of course, carrier stores may or may not have gotten the latest communications on the matter or may be sharing bad information, so that can't be helping either. I suspect if one is using an older SIM on either carrier, they may have some trouble with 5G.
Has anyone tested difference in the T-Mobile sims. Faster speed.

Noice! I have been on a 4 year upgrade wait, now I live in terror in getting a defected $800 iphone. People in the US will just enjoy returning it. People who have no Apple store near them will pay the same and will suffer for it.

Is it me or has this release been unusually problematic? Compared to the near flawless release of the 11 series last year it's kind of disappointing.

So glad I'm skipping this year.
No there was always and issue especially with screen splotches. Sometimes I think its bad quality control, other times when I hear they sell like 20M devices per quarter I forgive them...then I don't forgive them because they made me pay $800, took my money, and gave me a flawed product. If you can't build that many phones, build less, don't punish the customer for it.

Apple products releases are always flawed with problems here and there, their get away is its not a design flaw its a quality flaw. So some people get a perfect devices, others suffer. Some of the flaws is the current screen issues, dead gpus on some laptops, some laptop screens had bad coating,...they do a lot of recalls.

There were way too many discussions elsewhere about T-Mobile's SIM situation, but I don't think it ever came down to speeds, but rather connectivity. Some of the old SIMs can't support 5G standalone, so it could affect connectivity (in places where T-Mobile only has 5G rolled out, you wouldn't be able to connect). 5G NSA (non-standalone) would be supported where LTE would "assist" with the connection.

It shows how little Apple understand the problem though. It's not green at all, it's grey, but a camera will pick it up as green due to exposure or some such. Because customers are sending photographs of it looking green, they think it's green. It aint.

For those of you who don't have this problem, you probably do I'm afraid. Best not to look for it.
It's actually two issues combined. The first is that, in certain scenarios, areas of the screen that should be turned off to display black are kept on and show a very faint gray, and the second is that many screens have poor grayscale color balance which can tint grays slightly green, and cameras can amplify how visible that problem is, but it's still a problem and noticeable to some with their naked eyes. So that photo is actually picking up those two issues combined.

My iPhone that I got from iPhone upgrade program had a sim for t mobile in it. I’m showing 5G in the corner of my phone... how can I be sure I’m getting the best connectivity

I am having no issues at all with my 12 Pro Max. Screen no is great and signal strength is great also. Pulling just shy of 1GBps on 5G in Australia.

For those of you wondering the new 14.2 does not change anything in regards to the yellow tint issue. If you are on the older build of 14.2 you can update via iTunes/Finder by connecting your iPhone to your computer. I went through the trouble and it does not fix the yellow tint issue.

I've had no issues on T-Mobile with just putting in my old SIM and being up and running. Sounds like a provider-specific issue?

Also, coming from an XR, this antenna is way better. Now at home I get 1-2 bars normally when before it was 0-1 (I manage to live in a weak zone for all 3 major U.S. providers).
I actually had to use the new sim on my 12 Pro Max instead of my old sim. Rep stated it was because of 5G.

Dealing with T-Mobile for a few different kinds of accounts, if your old SIM was more than a generation behind, that might have been the main reason. The SIMs with R15 printed on them are the current ones, while the TM9263 ones also should work. Anything older (TM___) might need to be replaced.

Just under 1Gbps in Aus? thats insane!! Where are you located?? I am only getting a max of 450mbps (Not complaining though as thats 4x faster than the fastest home NBN speeds lol)

I have been seeing weird flickering issues at times when the phone wakes up from sleep.. this also won’t let me type anything more than a char. it remains until reboot..

Had hit it twice in last 4 days...
